But, why would you vote? It's not like it's going to change shit!

I beg to differ, I saved some tutorial that was on the brink of death, I was the deciding vote, I cast a 5 and it was saved with a score of 1.60. I was damn proud of that one.

There are so many other people voting that one vote is really irrelavent.

see above.

There's always people who say that you'll get a higher level. So what? Why would you care about a high level? It's only a dumb ass picture that changes. What's the point of voting?

You will get a higher level. It isn't like its some sort of rumor or something. Its something to do, working towards a higher level or whatever. It isn't just a 'dumb ass picture that changes' it is also a way to get more respect on this site, get more voting power to make movies you like do better, and its a way to pass the time when all the BBS topics don't really have any reply needed.

But that's not to say I wouldn't mind having a wicked sweet American Muscle car.

Topic: Whats Your Anit-Drug ?

Posted: 08/12/04 12:45 AM

Forum: General

If you're a kid growing up these days, sooner or later, someone's going to offer you drugs. "Go ahead, try some of these," they'll say. "They'll make you feel great. Come on, everybody's doing it. Don't you want to be cool?" People have told me all these things and plenty more, but I just tell them to buzz off. I tell them I don't need drugs to get high or be cool: I can do it with alcohol, my anti-drug.

The pushers who hang around the playground behind my school are always going on about the amazing high you get from drugs. But I don't see how it can compare to the pure, natural, 100 percent legal high I get from drinking alcohol. Who needs the artificial escape drugs provide when a good, stiff belt of Jim Beam or José Cuervo can put your head in the clouds while keeping your feet firmly planted on the ground?

Sure, at first, drugs may make you feel pretty good. But it's not real. Before long, you're using more and more, even as you're feeling worse and worse. Then, other things will start going wrong for you, too: Your friends won't seem to hang around you anymore, and you'll have new friends who only care about the drugs. Your grades will start to slip. Your memory will go. And your health will fade. All because of drugs.

Don't take that risk: Find something healthy, like alcohol, to take the place of drugs in your life. So, the next time you feel the urge to smoke some marijuana, try reaching for a big bottle of Bacardi instead.

The sneaky thing about drugs is how they make you feel like everything's okay when it's not. Drugs alter the way you perceive things. They change the way you behave and cause you to lose control of yourself. Who wants that? I don't know about you, but I like being in control of my actions. That's why, whenever I feel tempted to wander down the wrong road, I pour myself a nice, stiff drink, thanking my lucky stars that I've got alcohol, my personal anti-drug.

Why would anyone in their right mind want to get "stoned" or "fried"? I'd rather spend my time engaged in more constructive activities, like "wetting my whistle," "liquoring up," or "filling myself with liquid courage." You know, positive things. With alcohol, the glass is always half full. (When it isn't completely full, that is.)

Now, maybe you don't care for alcohol. That's okay. What's not okay, though, is getting hooked on an addictive, controlled substance like pot, cocaine, or heroin. Find a healthy substitute, something you can get really into, something that can be your anti-drug. It could be anything: Learn to play blackjack or the ponies. Explore kleptomania. Have sex with an endless parade of random strangers. Anything that makes you feel good, as long as it isn't drugs.

It's your life, and you have to learn to make your own choices. But choosing drugs? That's no choice at all.

Nothing beats the adrenaline rush that comes from knowing you're drug-free. And, if you're drug-free, you're free, period. I like that feeling, and I like myself. I'm high on life, because I'm high on alcohol, my anti-drug.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-

I just figured I'd give the reason why alcohol is my anti-drug, as well as everyone elses. I can't remember the source.... sue me.

No, of course the president doesn't control the economy, what a foolish assumption. The president does affect the economy, however, with what he screws up or with what he does right. Bush had obviously done more screwing up than right, as the economy has suffered huge blows since he got into office.

At 8/10/04 12:16 PM, Celly07 wrote: Everything Moore does is to advance his career.

Uh, no shit. Thats what everybody does... welcome to capitalism. The reason why it is so bad in Bush's case is because he has been voted into office to represent America and he represents the best interests of only a select few instead.

The movie is not a documentary, its propaganda, and people who dont like bush just feed off of his misintepretations.

The movie is a documentary, albeit a very biased documentary, but what isn't. People who don't like Bush are usually people who have been lied to by Bush and enjoy hearing a more truthful depiction of events.

He downplays 9-11, so his movie shouldnt even have that in it.

No, he makes it pretty prominent. In fact, I'm pretty sure the first 45 minutes of the movie are all about 9/11.

Everything he does, in all of his movie, is take htings out of context to make america look all bad.

Everyone says he is making America look bad, but nobody says anything about how Bush is making America look bad. Senselessly attacking other countries for the first time in America's history is not a favorable action if you want your country to look good. Moore takes very few things out of context, he simply interprets things how he sees them, he shows the facts, and then gives his opinion on why they are relevent and how they have been used to pull the wool over everyone's eyes.

Every single one, which i think i have seen all of them, he takes things, takes them out of context, makes america seem evil, then turns and gets rich off of it.

No, he takes the facts, presents them to the viewer, and then offers his interpretation of events. I think the real anger here is that many of them hit really close to home in terms of the truth.

Sad society we live in.

That is what he's trying to point out and hopefully correct, except half of the people won't give him the time of day with which to do it.

Break all fonts means if you use a text box you need to highlight it and break the group apart. It essentially turns highlightable text into graphics.

The movie needs to be in a clip so Luis can put it together for the final cut of the actual time trials. Otherwise it won't work, your movie won't be able to be loaded into the final product

Topic: Criminals, why do they have rights?

Posted: 08/08/04 01:16 AM

Forum: General

At 8/7/04 11:55 AM, TheLord04 wrote: I must admit that I hate the legal system as well, I find it so stupid how people can commit crimes and get away with it.

It evens itself out with people who can not commit crimes and get convicted of it.

Earlier this year a former NBA star named Jason Williams was in court for killing his limosuine driver, and he admitted to doing it but was found innocent of attempted man slaughter because he "accidentally pulled out a gun and accidentally pulled the trigger".

Yes, that is ridiculous, but some cases involve people who are convicted on one testimony, no evidence, just one person who says they did it.

The family of the limousine driver was trying to get the case re-tried but I haven't heard anything about it for a couple of months so it's my guess that the guy was only convicted of lesser chargers which means he will serve a maximum of 8 years, and will probably get way less then that. It is quite sad.

So is the opposite situation, a man who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time is slapped with a death sentence and put on death row and murdered. 5 years later the case is reopened due to new DNA evidence and the man is cleared... guess what? TOO LATE.

Here is what I think should be done, prisons should become prisons again.

Prisons have stayed by and large the same throughout the years. Ever wonder why people don't like prison, and still don't? I guarentee you will never find a person who actively wants to go to jail.

There should be nothing except cells, they should cram as many criminals as they want in the cells. No TV's, no beds, oh and only one meal a day which would be a TV dinner without being heated.

Hey! They did that before! Yea... it was somewhere in Nazi Germany, and I think something a little different in China. Yea, and we could round them all up and kill them at random too. Sounds like a good plan. I can't remember the name of the short story, but if anyone knows what I'm talking about remind me of the name. The story is about prisoners of war who were put in a single room, maybe 35 of them in one single room about 25 feet by 25 feet and locked them in there with no food or water for about 2 weeks. Nobody deserves that kind of suffering.

Anyway, with that said I think that people who are covicted committing murder should be killed instantly and the family of the victum should be involved.

What happens if a person is guilty and then later found innocent? Then everyone who was involved in that person's brutal murder would have to stand trial and would be killed in the same way. That is the worst system I have ever heard, it wouldn't work at all, not to mention is completely against the Constitution and due process.

But a few good points were brought up about how criminals may suffer more if they go to prison. The terrorists who crashed into the twin towers on 9/11 obviously didn't care about dying. What if there are criminals like that? So i'm kind of split on the issue.

Why does it always have to be the maximum punishment that people don't think the criminals want? punishment is punishment, jail is jail, it sucks either way.

However, murderers should never be able to leave prison again.

Well, if it were your way they would barely get out of the courtroom before they were brutally murdered themselves.

Parole should be done away with, no getting out for good behavior.

So if the problem that was wrong with you that caused you to snap in the first place was finally fixed you should still have no chance of getting out on the streets again to lead a normal life.

If you murder someone your never getting out on the streets again!

I'm sure you are willing to make exceptions to this rule, the most obvious ones being military, police, and executioners.

Rapists should be forced to serve 50 years in prison, and should be raped themselves by a professional who rapes guys for a living (there has to be some sicko out there).

You keep having this eye for an eye thing going on in your argument that just doesn't make any sense. You have conveniently left out the parts where a mistake is made and a person has suffered under these new laws for no reason.

As for theft, I believe in 20 years in prison for all theft. As for those of you who say "what if a 10 year old takes candy". So what? 20 years, no ifs ands or buts. If a kid could serve 20 years in prison for stealing candy, then how many kids will steal candy?

When you were 3 did you know what money was? When you were 4 did you know that taking a small package of balloons with you out the of the store was illegal? Did you know that there were certain things you couldn't do? Did you even know that there were people who make laws for a living? You don't know what's happening when you're a kid, that is why you aren't allowed to vote, and also why you aren't allowed to be put away for something with a full sentence that an adult could get.

Oh, and speaking of kids i'm sick of gets getting off whenever they commit crimes. They get to go to juvenille detention centers instead where they get TV, video games, meals, education, and a bed to sleep in. Sure, I know kids who went there and still felt tortured because they could "only use the computer for one hour", but that only works with the ultra spoiled ones.

So a kid who plays with his daddy's toy gun, only to realize after he's pointed it at his best friend and killed him that it isn't a toy should be put to death?

Kids should have to serve the same penalties as adults, and serve in the same prisons as adults.

I would agree with that if Kids had the exact same rights adults have in the world. But they do not. So they should under no circumstances be punished as an adult would in their situation.

In conclusion, the eye for an eye system never works, because it leads to people hunting down people back and forth.

Everyone remembers what their mommy told them when they were 5: Two wrongs don't make a right. That statement always applies.

Posted: 08/08/04 12:51 AM

Forum: General

That is a bad question to ask. If you can take away someone's rights just because of something they did before, than why should anybody have rights?

Why should people be punished at all? Are you against health care for people who willingly exposed themselves to a disease? Would you prefer that people only have one chance at anything ever?

A man who stabbed a girl 99 times would hardly ever get freedom after 20 years. The point of the Constitution is to protect everybody. You are whining about how it is unjust to the victims to have a criminal put back on the streets with what you claim as a minimal punishment yet you don't see the injustice in subtracting every right from a person who has committed a crime.

In America I think some people do lose their right to vote upon incrimination. People are pretty upset about it because it is abused and used to put Black voters behind bars as a result of the prejeduce against blacks. The solution isn't quite as easy as taking away every right of a criminal.

Sure, crime goes down when you lose every right as a result, but then it is left open for abuse, how would you feel being convicted, and then being unable to appeal because you didn't have the right to anymore when you were actually innocent and somebody framed you in the crime?
