Indeed. Then again, he probably only needs a "Listen, I think about you all the time..." sort of deal before the girl takes over and does all the talking for him.

I suggest hand written letters for those things you rehearse so well in your head but could never actually say.

Sound advice for the charismaless.

Tell her how you feel and ask her how she feels about you. If you're really in that much distress, you'll figure out that it's worse to do nothing than it is to just ask, because getting turned down would suck but at least you'll be able to deal with it better than you are showing you are able to deal with having done nothing so far.

Trust me, if you talk to her all the time just say "Listen, I need to talk to you about something" take her aside and let loose. Or you could allude to it and fish for her to figure out what you're leading towards. Anyway you decide to do it, you must tell her what you're feeling immediately.

Who knows? She could feel the same way.

Parallels like that are generally what make such great works of fiction great. Children can enjoy the books because they're a great story, and adults can appreciate them because it reminds them of the struggles either themselves or their parents faced during the second World War.

All books symbolize or represent real life events or actual problems society faces and their ultimate conclusion is aimed at getting people to discover for themselves what they think the right answer is and to reflect on what occured.

If literature is just a story with no thought or meaning behind it then it isn't interesting in the slightest to a lot of people. Action is pretty cool, good descriptions are pretty cool, but the truly great book includes some sort of parallel or symbolic representation of real life events. That's why most of the BBS stories you see floating around are ok, but not awesome. There's no moral struggle.

Makes sense to me. People come here for one thing and stay for the community but in chat the community changes since there's no records of the hilarity of past. It takes the BBS a period of like 6 months to change to another set of regulars, whereas in chat it can be as short as a month or two. But when the BBS changes regulars, you can still read all the topics that those regulars participated in and see what it was like back then. With chat you just kind of have to take people's word for it, and I think the expression goes something like "Hindsite always wears rose-colored glasses."

Well, as a new-age frequenter of both worlds, I can safely say that both have been very similar experiences to me. The chat offers an assload of idiots that join and suck, and the BBS offers the same. You've just got to sift through the idiots to find those that are worth it.

Things are eventually going to change in those aspects though, I'm pretty sure. Server move should help a lot in terms of how decent chat is (if not for any other reason than the server won't suck ass and shit out once a day).

Although as someone I've established to be a reasonable person, you have to admit that part of the problem to Newgrounds Chat being as dull as it often is could very well be the result of all the characters of old making new channels to avoid the idiots you get every once in a while.

Topic: Why Instant Messaging sucks.

Posted: 01/23/06 11:46 AM

Forum: General

Funnily enough, these problems you have with MSN would never occur in AIM. AIM Chats can have tons of people in them, and they get spammy (mostly because people seem to want to act like tools whenever they get the chance) but never threaten to crash your computer.

Not only that, but AIM lets you disable graphical smileys entirely. IN ADDITION to having a static screen name. In AIM you sign up with a name instead of an email, and that's what you stay as unless you decide to change it.

Plus, AIM has a window that pops up on your computer to tell you that you're still away and what your away message is. When it's in your face like that all you have to do is hit "I'm back" and you're good to go in terms of communicating with someone. I used to forget all the time on MSN whether or not I was away because there was no active reminder of it.

But, of course, now I have Trillian, which is infinitely better. No matter what instant messanger people are using I only see the name that I've labelled them, not their screen name (Unless I don't label them or want to see their screen name). It's quite handy because I hate having to figure out who is who among the slew of changing names and whatnot that MSN offers. I always keep my name as 'Evark' and never add emoticons or any other shit.

Good rant. :-)

No. Dan Paladin did. There's actually an interesting interview hanging around either this site or www.thebehemoth.com about the subject. Apparently Dan woke up one morning and said he felt like an Alien Hominid was biting his head off, and his girlfriend asked him to draw what he thought an Alien Hominid looks like.

Thusly, AH was born.

I think an annual thing would be best, since monthly would be a little excessive.

Plus, yearly would allow sufficient time for changes to a bunch of stuff.

I thought it went great. Congratulations to everyone who won something and a hearty pat on the back to all who participated. It was good fun indeed.

Topic: My Boss

Posted: 01/21/06 06:27 PM

Forum: General

My current boss is awesome. We share drinking stories despite him being well into his elder years of the 40's. I work at a bank in accounting and my boss is the Treasurer and Vice President of the bank. My other boss for the same job is awesome also, and then my ultimate boss (being the president) only makes an appearance in the area where I'm working about once or twice a month.

As for my old boss, a staunch Catholic mechanic who would listen to a Catholic radio show every Saturday morning while he and I worked... he was nice and all but I just disagree with him in every non-moral aspect of life (like politics and theology).

I've had good bosses. Except one. She was awful. Comments like "I can't babysit anymore" when I ask a simple question let me see red.

It's taken Tom, liljim, Wade, Ross, Tim, and Stamper (not to mention the flash community members) about 10 years of work to get Newgrounds from the point it started as into the enormous website it has become today.

It's a work in progress, things are constantly changing, updating, and getting better.

I think they ARE considered clothed. Because if we can consider a fur coat clothing once it's off an animal's body (in this case a monkey or Ape) then why wouldn't it be the same when it's ON it's body?

It's quite simple when you're actually playing, and an absolute blast, as it's essentially playing cards in a way that lets you decide how to get other people drunk.

It's easy to learn while playing it.

Asshole. [How to play]

Basically, you follow those instructions there, and every time someone has to pass, they take a drink. Every time someone clears the cards on the table, it's a community drink. The asshole can put his thumb on the table and the last person to notice and put their thumb on the table has to take a drink. The president can tell anyone when to take a drink, and the VP can tell everyone but the president and so on.

It's quite awesome. We played it with a jug of vodka and orange juice.
