I have legitimately never seen you before that I can recall. So... I have no opinion except that you made a thread asking about what other people think of you.

Dell XPS 9100:
- 18 GB RAM
- Radeon 5870
- Core i7 960 processor

Two shitty V7 monitors from work
Wall mounted JVC TV (that I never use... I'll probably hook it up to my PC soon but I'm sure the resolution would be terrible)

And yea... I have a pretty ghetto desk setup. It'll do until I can buy some wall mounts and decent monitors.

Response to: Low Virtual Memory Posted March 17th, 2011 in General

These people are idiots. Virtual memory refers to the paging file on your machine. A paging file is a file that allows the operating system to use pieces of the hard drive as slow RAM memory when physical memory runs out. In order to remedy this issue, you should increase the size of your paging file, OR (preferably) buy and install more memory on your machine. Memory being RAM.

Exactly 26 weeks later. 26 weeks being 26 Tuesdays. At an average of approximately 4 Tuesdays a month (the 15th being a Tuesday). 26 weeks is half of 52 weeks, so just under half a year (I think there's 52.something weeks in a year). September 14 or 15.

Response to: Japan Radiation Cloud Posted March 17th, 2011 in General

A forecast by the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization shows how weather patterns this week might disperse radiation from a continuous source in Fukushima, Japan. The forecast does not show actual levels of radiation, but it does allow the organization to estimate when different monitoring stations, marked with small dots, might be able to detect extremely low levels of radiation. Health and nuclear experts emphasize that any plume will be diluted as it travels and, at worst, would have extremely minor health consequences in the United States.

Figured I'd just drop that pesky text nobody reads in here.

I don't think it will be an issue. At the same time, I'm glad I live on the East Coast. Just about 60 miles north of the second most vulnerable plant to damage from earthquake in the world!

Response to: How long have you been on the BBS? Posted March 15th, 2011 in General

16 and a half days.

So, like... 0.5% of my life over the past 8 years (roughly how long I've been signed up) has been devoted to posting on the BBS. That isn't that much at all. 7.8 minutes a day (I said it takes me 2 minutes per post).

I don't think that's so excessive.

Response to: 10 saddest songs Posted March 12th, 2011 in General

The Shore. That one is called "Hard Road."

It's not SUPER sad, but it's definitely not uplifting. I listen to it when I'm sad anyway.

Simon and Garfunkle. It's called "I am a rock."

I linked that old live version because the album version has some electric guitar parts that kinda detract from the downbeat feelings it is supposed to invoke.

Everclear. "Wonderful."

This one is too upbeat musically... but surprisingly I'm having a hard time finding really sad songs. I swear I knew more. This song does get to me though, and it's definitely got sad lyrics.

Entertainment or norotiety.

Here, take Rig for example. He was in the international news for stopping a kid from the UK from burning down his school. However, he wasn't the only one. Deckheadtottie actually noticed first and was also involved. Rig got more of the attention because his story was cooler (Deckheadtottie is from the UK... it isn't as interesting to have someone from the same area stop a crime as it is for someone halfway across the world to stop the crime.

You're fine, dude. If they didn't take you in to custody and there is no damage and you swear up and down that you don't know anyone and you were just there... you're OK.

However, if there is damage you might get leaned on to pay for it... no more than the kid who mouthed off and the other kid who had paraphernalia though.

At 3/10/11 02:07 PM, LazyDrunk wrote: I think the guy felt threatened enough to turn around and wallop him.

The reason he was arrested for assault and not the other way around is because he didn't feel threatened at all. He just was angry that he was being disturbed while he was perving out on the gymnastics team or whatever.

Whereas, if he requests that the mascot stops and the mascot continues, then it becomes a different situation.

He didn't actually punch the mascot in the face, just the mask.

...

At 3/10/11 02:12 PM, RubberTrucky wrote: The problem is that "threatening" is up to interpretation.

Are you serious? That isn't a PROBLEM at all. The interpretation is applied in light of the facts of the situation. It's a good thing that it is open to interpretation. The entire point of the courts is to provide 'interpretation' in our system so that enforcement can't just fuck over whoever they want whenever they want.

If for example I'm waiting for a long time for my wife to get ready. Then I get angry and yell "Come on, woman! I need to leave now!"
Would be weird if she feels threaten and I go to jail because I raised my voice a little.

In that situation, there would be no grounds to send the man to jail. Why? Because you did not threaten her, nor did you lay a finger on her. It doesn't matter if somebody 'feels threatened' by your statements, what matters is if the statements in and of themselves 'were threatening'.

There's another force at work. There's a difference between being arrested and being incarcerated for crimes committed. Arrest is enforcement, you can be arrested if you ALLEGEDLY broke a law. Incarceration is indictment, you can be incarcerated only if a jury of your peers finds that after the facts of the case have been presented it is certain that you broke the law.

For example, I would not feel threatened if a man in a wheelchair said that if I did not comply with his wishes he would beat the shit out of me. Regardless, that man could be thrown in jail because his actions were threatening. The case might not even see court, however. The judge could decide before trial that my charges were ridiculous in light of the fact that the man can't move his arms or legs to hurt me. That's what interpretation does. Protects you from the frivolity of enforcement.

Assault, minnesota-style
The player was arrested, not the mascot. Thoughts?

I think you neglected to read or comprehend 'in a threatening way' from my statement, which would explain fully why you would somehow expect that the mascot would be arrested for tapping someone on the shoulder and the fan not arrested for punching him in the face in response.

Unfortunately, our responsibility here kindof gives that impression. Really, we just hate that we even have to police these forums whatsoever. It'd be much more awesome if we never had to ban anyone or delete anything.

So the resentment vibe you might get when you insist that you weren't breaking a rule (whether you're right or not) is usually not directed at you (75% of the time I can't even remember what I banned someone for when they PM me something like 'WHY AM I BANNED WTH!?'), but rather is directed at the fact that we have to crush dreams by being stern and serious with rule-breakers. And we get the tired old "I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING IT'S NOT FAIR WAH" thing all the time.

They have to accept your presence. The alternative is killing you and you're still alive.

I dunno. I can't teach you how to handle your shit. I think you'll figure it out, but it starts with knowing that no matter where you are and what you're doing, you have every right to be there doing it as anyone else. There will be consequences if you're breaking laws or rules, but provided you accept the consequences you still have that right.

The fact that you use your example to refute the point that 'social interaction is the main point of school' really emphasizes how you miss the point of that statement.

School is not to form lasting relationships with good quality people or whatever. You can do that anywhere. It's so that when you hit the real world and there's still a buncha douchebags who have every right to be there as much as you do you've learned how to handle their presence diplomatically.
