The point is, if you look at it as "all they do is ___", well then nobody's special. MC didn't just shoot guns, he was a one man army Cloud is the only one who can beat Sephiroth, Mario hassles to save the Princess (who is in another castle), Snake is another one man army, Ganondorf controls the Triforce of Power, Luigi helps in Super Mario World, and GTA stars... well, I agree. Screw Grand Theft Auto. It sucks.

He's a guy, Excursius. In the majority of the early games Link was either a prince or a young warrior, in some way related to the various incarnations of Zelda. In Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask it's very clear he's a guy. As for the earlier arguement that his "ha! yah!" stuff could go either way, note that the voice sounds in no way like a woman's voice. As for the "camel toe", it's a "T" rated game, of course they weren't going to show tight clothes on a guy's crotch, because then they'ed have to up the ratings to "Adult Only". You forget that this "kid" wields a holy sword and has his own power through the Triforce of Courage. He, in several adventures, also gains power over time and space, allowing him to go anywhere, make it rain, change the seasons, switch from night to day and back, send time in reverse, control the winds, teleport between the Light and Dark Realms, turn into a wolf (though that one is kinda forced), and get treasures that amplify his own strength, among other things. And Ganon just has the misfortune of picking times to return that another reincarnation of Link is just waiting for action. So Ganon is pretty much doomed to perpetual failure. Nyaan.

I have my parent's old SNES, and it STILL works great. I also have the N64, which is usefull for Ocarina of Time and 007 Goldeneye. You know, some times I wish someone would take the old games and consoles and re-introduce them, as sort of a last-hurrah for the good old chunks of hardware, back when you only needed 4 buttons and a d-pad to play a good game. Every now and then, I even hook up "Super Mario Wolrd" and play through a couple of maps, for old times sake. Ah, when things were less expensive... I miss cheap game consoles... I could have beaten Halo 3 a few imes already, if the Xbox weren't so damn expensive when it came out! I STILL don't have a 360 OR even an original Xbox!! So, my Ps2 has a good bit of milage on it. And I needed a new memory card just for Okami, takes up the whole friggin 16 MB card on it's own... *sigh* the days when things saved games reliably... ... ... Okay, I've gone off topic, sorry!

I don't feel that all war games have the same story. Each Medal of Honor game focuses on a different soldier for it's story. It may feel that they are all the same because so many are set in WWII, but each one has a different stroy to tell. We all know what happened in WWII, so some of the story is already there for us. Maybe that's why you feel the way you do. As for why I play war games... would you rather I play Grand Theft Auto? Because personally, I think THOSE are all the same : crappy. And I also like rendering things FUBAR in any virtual way possible. I'm not a hipocrite, and there is no reason to like war. A game can have all the action it needs, but if there is no STORY to it, then I don't like the game. If all of the stories were the same, then I would have just played one and left it at that. But each one has a different story, a different way it all works out. Just give them a chance.

As for a game...I say 007 Goldeneye, Nintendo 64. I know it's not a "war" game, but there are one HECK of a lot of guns. And as I said, guns rock.
As for an actual war game, how about the Age of Empires series (PC)? And Halo Wars (Xbox360)? Build huge armies and pwn the other guy, nothing wrong with that. (especially when the map editor lets you make HUGE armies, with thousands of soildiers and cannons!)
If you want a FPS choice, on a more modern consloe, then I'd pick Medal of Honor and Call of Duty (multiple systems).
If you want to be in an Air War, then go for Ace Combat (PS1, PS2, Xbox360)
And who can forget the Star wars entries of Battlefront's One and Two (multiple systems). I mean, till then we were running aroiund as invincible hero characters, when the Battlefront's came out we got to play as the Grunts for once, and being blown through a window over Bespin, where there is NO ground to catch me, never gets old. Too bad they canceled Battlefront III.
And last but certainly not least, Halo 1 2 and 3. (Xbox - Xbox360-PC) If only I even had an Xbox.... nyaan....
