Everything, from Preamps to Signal Processors(Compressors, Equalizers, etc) You have all the digital versions of these on a basic recording program. There is nothing wrong with these, but it gets old, especially if you going for a unique sound.

Any real studio has hardware, they have both. I am amazed that new grounds lacks almost 100% percent hardware, they may have a mic, maybe a budget interface with a built in preamp, which is ok, its overrated though.

The audio portal voting system is just based on if you know the user on NG and you like them as a person, not so much on material. The quality and composition is repetitive and unoriginal. I have a heard a few good things, but not really.

There are real audio forums, like Tweakheadz, were the actual studio owners will help you and actually know what the hell they are doing, the audio forum/portal here is a joke, shame on them.
