the military will always be needed and as far as intimidation goes, its the ego of the United States that have kept us out of war. Which i don't care much for.

To intimidate others and say well you can't have these nuclear weapons because you'll use them to conquer other countries then for us to go into other countries is total shit.

I don't care if you say its for peace, its a sheer facade for oil and profiteering. and its showing.

Let's call our country Moronica (cause the three stooges are awesome and I've always wanted to use that name in general discourse). Moronica is ruled by President Hailstone and he's a real prick to the public. So eventually some people get fed up, and they decide they've found a leader in General Yupyup. So they want to secede and call their state Idiotanica.

If Idiotanica secceeds and can get a large super power or two like the US to back them, and the international community to at least be sympathetic to them against Hailstone, they will be able to succeed successfully and if Hailstone attempts to force them back into the fold, they'll have the ability to fight him off and they'll have a new country.

If nobody cares, and Hailstone doesn't like the idea of his country split in two, the secession fails and they get reincorporated. If still nobody cares to pressure Hailstone into making sure he doesn't severely punish the secessionists he could have them all killed and call it an illegal rebellion. Or maybe he's in a good mood and like the US Civil War it'll just be looked at as an unfortunate chapter in history and most schools will teach it as Moronica good, Idiotanica bad.
