Anyway... regardless of how many measures of security have been put into place recently by the government, my city (Los Angeles) still runs a high risk of a terrorrist attack, mainly on it's airport. If I may offer an example of this: The LAX airport (and this has been on the news on an almost daily basis) is situated in an urban area where planes constantly fly low and directly over head. It is highly possible for a person to pull up in a car, unload a weapon, equip it, and shoot down an airplane with a rocket-propelled shoulder-missle-launcher which can be bought in the black market for roughly around 10 thousand dollars. The only solution I can think of in regards to that, is expanding other airports that aren't in very crowded city areas and that are very difficult to reach with any sort of projectile weapon(s).

Response to: Downfall of Society: Gay Marriage Posted December 19th, 2004 in Politics

Now in regards to this topic: It should already be pretty clear that there's a huge difference between criminals such as pedophiles and people that just wish to have relationships within the same sex. It's up to government to weed such criminals from society. I can't say I don't clearly understand exactly why Canada has the concensual age for sex at 14, but they must have a reason for it, right?

J/p, but the conglomerations of atoms and molecules are much more complicated that just the laws of physics :/ they don't necessarily have multiple choices to make like we do.

look, leave the analogy alone for a second and focus on what I'm saying. When someone takes a puff of a smoke, it because they know they'll enjoy it. Like RIGHT NOW. LIke when you take a shit, you go "man I can't hold it in any longer". You have no though for the future, you just want your suffering to end.

Y'know, I was hungry before I started reading this? Emphasis on the word "was."

think up of ANY situation, and you'll always be able to find a justification for it, always. Suicide, murder, eating butter, stappling your testicles together, ANYTHING.

I'm just gonna let it go for now, for the sake of avoiding perpetuity because I could present a counter-argument for what you're saying, and you'd present one for mine, and so on... Like I've said before, when I get back in school for winter quarter, I'll ask my critical thinking professor about this argument.

The trouble is, a lot of people argue with fallacies, and they don't even know about it. Not everyone here is proficient in critical thinking, so you'll get arguments with fallacies in them, all I can do is point them out.

At 12/15/04 04:57 PM, FatherVenom wrote: Two seconds into this thread and I already demolished this idea. The notion of God being all-good is fallacious. You can't come up with any reason why he has to be all-good can you? Additionally why would he have to make the universe perfect? Far more likely is that the universe is better off being interesting than perfect.

See, look? A fallacy right THERE *points to the words "you can't come up with any reason why he has to be all-good"* that's an appeal to ignorance, because you can't necessarily prove why he shouldn't be all-good either. A more suitable argument is the question of why he should make the universe perfect in the first place, but even then that's questionable.

Problem with Lucifer, is that Heaven was perfect, with perfection <in theory> therefor if it was perfect then there would have been no reason for Lucifer to be envious of God because in perfection everyone is happy because, well, its perfect. Therefor Lucifer must have been unhappy about something, in turn means its not perfect.

That poses a very good way to look at things, perhaps heaven't wasn't perfect to begin with in the first place, or perhaps Lucifer wasn't perfect. I'd rather go with Lucifer not being perfect because he was malcontent. Since when does perfection and eternity constitute happiness? Sure, the general amount of people in the world might agree with that, but I see somewhat of a problem with a perfect eternity... that's my next thread.

Good luck.

The tone in that sounds a bit strange to me, but w/e. You have to report credit card tips because you can't not report them, they're auto-reported as a gratuity on your paycheck and become part of your over-all taxable income. Therefore, given that you were only tipped on credit cards, and you tipped the bussers from your gratuities, then you're saying that the gratuities you gave them were also taxed? Make sure you do this math correctly, because something seems a bit wrong if you get paid, taxed, and then you give what was just taxed to the bussers only to have it taxed again. I think it should be given to you, then you give it to the bussers, then it's taxed in the end, not counting whether it goes through you or not.

Response to: Doublly Taxed Posted December 15th, 2004 in Politics

awkward_silence you better go check with your union (if you're unionized), this is exactly why unions are so important, so you can negotiate and not get fucked over like this.

If you aren't unionized, check with your employer or just try to get as many cash tips as possible without reporting any. :P That's how we do it, it's all about the cash.
