Bringing it back to what I already said. An atmospheric change that has had 1000 years to adjust. I'm not saying GW doesn't happen, I'm saying it should happen so quickly unless there are other factors at work. Hell, it might not even be atmospheric. Erosion, deforestation/afforestation, human activity and changes in land use can all effect a drainage basin.
Really, one of my classmates here is from a Canadian city close to the arctic and a factory was closed down in his hometown because of Kyoto style controls on factory carbon emmissions. 400 people lost their jobs. That is more than a "little" lifestyle change.
I was probably a little strong in my opinion that policy changes wont effect someone somewhere. There's always winners and losers. But changes are having to be made for the future if Climate Change is really down to industry.
But the small lifestyle changes are more preferable, I'm sure you'll agree, as they don't involve anyone losing their jobs.
As a matter of interest, could you tell me more about the factory being closed down? I'd never heard of an entire factory being closed with hundreds becoming jobless just for the sake of carbon emissions. I'm studying Physical Geography at uni and part of it involves the effects of climate change. It'd help me if I could find out more and use it as a negative impact for the Kyoto Agreement. :)
Funny thing there my friend, you don't really address my point here either...
Once Al Gore starts living what he preaches (taking his GW oath and reducing his carbon footprint by conserving energy...and NOT by buying 'offsets'), maybe I'll be able to take people like him seriously.
I understand that. I'm not fully against what you're saying, nor do I fully support it. People are only going to start conserving energy when the politicians themselves make the first steps. Most people are also willing to help, as long as they don't lose out in pocket etc.
I suppose only when the first city gets swallowed up by raising waters or when the last tree in the rainforest gets cut down will the majority feel they need to do something.

Ok, I'll try again.
Isn't this proof not of human-induced GW, but natural fluctuations in the Earth's climate?
No. It's a link about how different the landscape was 1000 years ago.
Yes...lets go ahead and start making policy that will cause people to loose their jobs (middle and lower class people)...meanwhile Al Gore's family can continue consuming energy at a rate 10x the average family...
This is a lame arse excuse created by people who believe that changing their lifestyle a little will cause the world to come crashing down.
Recycling a little more, investing some money in renewable energy sources, setting up conservation projects for areas at most risk, making plans for what to do in the event of a large scale climate change such as preparing flood defences and lowering waste from industry is not going to throw the lower/middle classes into deprivation.
I guess we (the middle and lower class) should go ahead and bear this burden (based on weak evidence) while the rich, intellectual elites maintain their status quo...
Yes, I choose you to go out and begin fire bombing factories to stop our impending doom.

A natural rise is temperatures that usually happens over a long time has taken place in 100 years. Oddly around the time of the growth in industry. Coincidence?
Might be, but I always found it to be a good idea to assume the worst and plan for the future.
The Gulf Stream getting diluted and stopping wont bring anything like what was shown in Day After Tomorrow. The UK's on the same latitude as Canada and Russia, so we'll get more snow. Along with rising temperatures we'll get less snow, so there might not be a huge change to Britain depending on if Global Warming or Cooling is the major factor.
People suggest that humans are the contributing factor to climate change, mainly due to an increase in industry, but that's only the start of it. Many countries such as China and India are rapidly growing and other countries are just beginning to industrialise. So where countries under the Kyoto agreement are trying to cut their carbon emissions, other places are just getting started.
Land use is also helping. With an increasing population, many areas are being converted into pasture for animals, who themselves give off plenty of methane. Deforestation in areas such as Brazil is changing the Albedo effect meaning the Earth is reflecting much of the Sun's energy back into the atmosphere. Pollution is blocking this so it's rebounding back and I'm sure you all understand the basic principles of it. Trees are no longer absorbing the solar energy and their absence also lowers evapotranspiration, decreasing rainfall helping desertification.
Melting ice caps raise sea levels, but they also act as a huge conductor for heat. Land heats up and cools down faster than water.
Diseases usually confined to tropical areas, such as Malaria, may move to more temperate areas and become prevalent in Europe.
So yeah, "p0llution maeks it warmerz" is the beginning.
Reminds me of how a conversation went between my old History teacher and a mate when he forgot to do an essay.
"My hamster died while I was taking it to the vet."
"That's upsetting"
"Damn right, I'd already paid the bus fair."
I doubt the effects of Global Warming will mean people freeze instantaneously or have the entire Northern Hemisphere change in 2 days.
I saw that a while back but it was the Canadians.
It probably never happened. And if it did it was probably:
Yanks: Move pl0x

I'm pulling myself along the lines of anti-factory farming, anti-medical testing on unnecessarily needed animals when other alternatives are available unless those are unavailable allowing the use of animals under careful, controlled conditions, anti-cosmetic testing.
Can I be a vegetarian with my own personal ethics and not be a crazy PETA person? Or was it in the small print?
British Comedy.
You've got stuff like Red Dwarf, Spaced, Absolutely Fabulous, My Family, Fawlty Towers, Dad's Army, Blackadder etc. Comedy quizzes like Have I got news for you, Never mind the buzzcocks, QI etc.
Even shows like Top Gear, that are meant to be about motoring, are hilarious.

That's the price of a good education over here.
And 25 years of student loans to pay off afterwards.
My first years costs over £3000 and I'll be paying it off for the next 25 years.
Sucks to be you.
I'm a vegetarian and think the way animals are mass produced is wrong.
Waits for flame.
"You gonna answer that?"
"I've got an answering service."
"You've got an answer for everything."
"I can't believe you just said that."

The value's the same. That's the whole point of exchange rates.
But come over if you want and enjoy VAT.

Uh, don't you mean $1,188.92?

Depends if it's going into or out of Mexico.

You're an idiot.
What if you were born in international waters between the US and UK? Would you be Atlantian?
At the moment Channel 5 is showing the end of Butch and Sundance - The Early Years.
There was something like that over here with the best and worst Britons.
