I'm going to be honest here for a change and say I'd give the possibility some serious consideration. Everyone's always saying how people with mental retardation are human beings too and they shouldn't be discriminated against, but I don't think anybody here would put up a big happy smile if the doctor said to them that they were going to be the parents of a retarded baby. That being said, I'd probably not have the balls and decide to have the baby anyway, but it'd take me some serious time to get accustomed to it.

Also, I believe that it would only happen if they were mentally retarded. If they, like, were missing a limb or were blind or something that would be totally bitchin', since they could get, like, robot prosthetics and shit.

Response to: Is homosexuality a choice? Posted August 12th, 2007 in Politics

Well, first of all I don't think there should be a discussion about it. If they love the cock, let them love the cock, period.
Also, most people here apparently don't even know what "choice" means.
"OMG THEYRE NOT BORN LIEK TAHT SO ITS A CHOICE DUH". "Choice" implies something voluntary, that comes from free will. If all gay men made that "choice", there would be little to none homophobic beatings, since no man would opt to be gay in a hostile enviroment. It's like the example they gave at the beggining, only, like, not wrong: You don't choose to like baseball over basketball. You choose to play one instead of another. You don't choose what to like, that's one of the most basic axioms of humankind. That doesn't mean that you're necessarily born with those preferences built-in either, it can come from a myriad of different sources. But if one could adapt his own preferences at will, then it's pretty obvious that nobody in this planet would ever need to be unhappy.

Nope. Vosotros is second person plural, as in "you guys". I think only people in Spain use Vosotros nowadays though, everyone else simply says "ustedes". (Even though "Ustedes" is the plural form of "usted", it's not necesarily used in a formal, respectful way, since in most countries it's the only form that it's widely used)
It's easier for people that are learning Spanish too, since when using "ustedes" they simply use the same conjugation they would use for "ellos/as", while "vosotros" requires you to pretty much learn 25,000 new verb endings that you're probably never going to use anyway.

Bleh, Tú vs. Usted.

Us Chileans don't have much of a problem with those, but the thing is that we also use "vos" as an extremely informal form. Because of our pronunciation, it's more like "voh" instead of "vos".
Your parents can plant you a dropkick right in the face if you adress them using "voh", unless you're a part of a very modern family.

Anyway-- it's hard for non-chileans to adapt. Where Spanish-speakers in general would say "Tú tienes eso" and Argentinians would say "Vos tenés eso", we say "Voh tení esa hueá, hueón".

I read newspapers for old people too, but the only one that I actually look forward to read is The Clinic. I've always wondered if there's something quite like it in other countries. I mean, it's the only medium (public or otherwise) that can make a torture joke and get away with it. It guises itself as just another "irreverent", "politically incorrect" outlet, just like South Park or The Onion or whatever, but I'd say that 9 of the 10 most important landmarks of national journalism in the last decade have come from The Clinic. They've unmasked former torturers, shed light in a child porn political conspiracy, investigated about Allende's unborn heir, etc.
Working in there is the ultimate wet dream for any journalism student.

That being said, genuine Argentinian accent and mannerisms = lame too, but a little less. CQC Chile slowly started to evolve into a decent show ever since the hosts gradually came to notice that they were, in fact, Chilean. Hueón.

I'm not a fan of soap operas, but I like the other shows you mentioned. Like you, I don't watch much TV, I watch Duro de domar, CQC, TVr... sometimes the news...

I don't watch much TV either. Chilean TV is the spawn of Satan and the relentless punishment from a spiteful God towards the nation he hates the most. We're like the anti-jews. Still, a couple of shows from a cable station are pretty good, namely Cadena Nacional and Canal Copano, even though Canal Copano is the nerdiest thing in existence and I hate both Copanos to death.
I frequently watch Scrubs, House, Family Guy, The Simpsons, Nip Tuck. Lately I've become addicted to that god-awful teen drama, The OC. I know it's for angsty, spoiled emo kids, but it's got a funny Jew.

Prove it. I mean seriously, prove it too me, not all Muslims are radical fundamental terrorist, I know a few myself, so don't try to say that they are. But seriously, freaking prove it.

Actually he was talking about Farfur the Mouse, a character who actually calls out kids to martyr themselves, in a show broadcasted by Al-Aqsa TV, a network run by Hamas. However, this is about as representative of Muslims in general as the show that's discussed by the OP is representative of the Catholic/Christian community (even though EWTN presents much less radical views than, say, Fred Phelps or Jack Chick). Very few catholics believe that genocide is neccesary to stop the heathens, and very few muslims actually plan to strap explosives to their bodies and blow up a schoolbus full of children.
This only comes to prove that there are nutcases on both sides (and all other sides, while we're at it).

I don't get it. Why is it so obvious that they're not going to list the atrocities commited by the Spanish, while they have no problem calling the Aztecs a bunch of bloodthirsty savages who killed babies and children? And if I remember correctly, the OP stated that the kiddie show portrayed Cortez as "the savior of the poor Aztec heathen babies". I perfectly understand that rape and genocide are topics that shouldn't go on a show aimed at children, I also understand that they want to narrate the whole thing in a perspective that is favorable to the Church, but I don't consider that portraying a culture as demonic, bloodthirsty and murderous is right either, specially when they're so bent on romanticizing the other side.
That being said, it wouldn't be any more ethical to make a show the other way around: Portraying Aztecs as a peaceful, loving nation in touch with the nature and the spirits and shit, and the Spaniards as the monstrous blue-eyed devils who arrive from the ocean to gangrape every Aztec in existence.

Of course that any of the above-mentioned notions can be broadcasted, and that's okay with me. I don't believe that these points of view should be banned, all I'm saying is that they're stupid and fanatical.
