flash 8 > CS3/CS4

Its simple, it works. No bullshit, no "custom tweens" and all that. back in my day we didnt need flash to ruin the cartoon for us!

anyway I use a wacom intuos 3 tablet. its not that expensive and you can make magic with it, makes drawing and animating twice as fast and fun.

as for the blurs (wich I ended up removing to reduce lag and filezise, appart from the fact it looked better without them) you can do them in flash, you dont need to use photoshop if you dont want to.

Only movie clips can have filters (like the blur!) in them. just click on whatever movie clip you want to blur and check out the properties bar for "fitlers" you should find a healthy arsenal of stuff there.

the fla. was like 20,000 mb and I turned it into 10,000

and the swf. was like 1500 and I turned it into 1150 or something

please remember, when you guys export the final swf, remember to set the audio properties to 48 kbps at the very minimum in order to keep audio quality top notch. this might increase filezise a small bit but the result is a lot better.

Oh also some backgrounds make the cartoon lag a little bit in the beginning but apparently only happens in a couple of comps. Im pretty sure I can reduce the filesize quite a few Kb without affecting the quality.

Another solution would be to be very picky about your flash and try to keep filezise low by chopping audio files/ transforming drawings into movie clips, etc.

To everyone who got his parts cut, please just say this to yourself: "damn, I will try harder next time" and just Learn from your mistakes.

do you think everyone who has started flash or animation was good when they started either? no. In fact, I got my parts cut like a bazillion times before I got what you could call "remotely decent". And I still feel my animation needs a LOT of work.

For me, it is hard to rate/give criticism on most n00bie flashes because I know new guys to flash worked with their cartoons a lot and really tried. I probably spent more time working on my first flashes than the time I spend making toons today.

Thing is guys, that getting the Boot is NOT a bad thing. It is a chance for you to realize your weaknesses and strenghts, and an opportunity to LEARN something. Or just a chance to get all prissy and keep making the same mistakes over and over and over.

These are basic things about life, not so much about animation i.e. flash.

And now back to animatin
