LMMS and Mu.Lab are free. Check them out!

I've had a look at LMMS's website, and I like the look of it, but I have no idea whether to download the 32 or 64 bit version, as I have no clue what that even means. If it relates to my PC somehow, it's a few years old, so it might not be able to run anything too intense.

Hi, I'm new and I have no idea if this is the right place, but here goes:

I'm looking to make some music and I have roughly no idea what program I would need to do that. Looking at the audio resources section, some of the prices there are rather high, and I don't have that much money, so I was wondering:

What program will allow me to compose music on my PC for free?

The only instrument I have any experience playing is the piano, but I know most of the basic theory for that, so I should be fine writing for it. I don't have any audio recording equipment, and my piano isn't electric, so I can't play on that and get music to magically appear on my PC.
I also have some basic knowledge of programs like Sibelius and Sonar, and they were both easy to compose on, but I don't have access to them anymore.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
