CRAIGSLIST! CRAIGSLIST! If you live near a semi-large city it's a great place to find various equipment including mixers mics interfaces and midi keyboards.
IMO Fruityloops is a GREAT way to start making music. I started using it in junior high and it's very user friendly for someone not used to seeing a sequencer and a piano roll.
I would start by getting a copy of the app and messing around. You'll find that you basically create patterns within layers and by putting the layers over one another you can start to create complex rhythms. Youtube has some pretty good free tutorials, for example http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=

The great thing about fruityloops for beginners is that it comes with a bunch of (shitty) samples that you can start using right away. Everything from drums to synth to leads. The hardest thing to do is to dive in and start moving things around. You want the simple process to become second nature so you can focus on effects, mixing, mastering, and improving your sounds (either by creating your own or finding packs and plugins).
Anyways, good luck to you. You'll find that mixing audio helps develop a lot of other composition skills that transfer to different avenues of your music making :)
You probably wont take my advice because youre convinced I have no idea what I'm talking about and spent a lot of time shitting all over my last post but I have some words for others looking to gain these skills.
Read professional php 6 by wrox, it covers a lot of the more advanced topics as well as some OOP. It's my favorite book on the topic- I read the PHP4 Version a long time ago before learning C# and java and the background knowledge really helped me through my first couple years of school. The authors make it easy to read and the projects they have are great practice.
After you learn a bit about OOP the best way to get hands on experience IMO is to work with an MVC Framework like codeigniter. This is also a good article if you get to this point : http://oreilly.com/php/archive/mvc-intro .html

As Sam said, we get thousands of these posts every year. People coming up with a groundbreaking idea and expecting the programmers to work for free. A 50% share in ad-revenue doesn't mean jack to us. There's every chance that this project isn't going to take off and we'll be left with nothing to show for the hard work we've put in. If he's so confident that the projects going to be a success, then he should put some of his own cash into it upfront. That way we know were going to be getting something out of the time we've put into it.
Add in the fact that this guy was an ass over PM's to several users and you've got your answer.
It's amazing that this post has made so many people defensive. Let me just start by saying the point of this project was not the pay but the experience. I enjoy working on projects with other designers and programmers as I feel it adds more to my level experience than repeating the same things I'm good at for clients. If you're looking for a full writeup on the project as well as my resume on this board you're not going to find it. If you want to send me a PM so I can speak with you and get you this information I'd be happy to do so.
Everyone seems to believe that I'm trying to get free work done so I can make a ton of money or something like that. I just want everyone to know I AM investing in the project - I'm investing time which translates to money as well as paying for all of the bandwidth and web space for the project.
I understand that 50% ad revenue doesnt mean jack on a website that has no promise of generating any sort of traffic. But who cares? If you want money then dont send me a PM. If you want to work on something in your free time in a team environment that could turn into something significant (much like the way the site your using to flame on was created) feel free to send me a message.
Thanks.
pay is $1000/h
i expect one loop that requests a string and returns the string with the words "is the best" concatenated onto it.
Sorry I should preface this by saying:
I have worked on sites like this in the past on a much larger scale and there is definitely profit in this if it is done right. I can show you a case study I helped develop which is turning an insane profit atm (which i am no part owner of unfortunately :( ). If you enjoy practicing your coding / design and want to put your name on something beneficial to startup artists this is definitely a great project for you.
It would be ad supported after initial creation and funds would be split up. Unfortunately I don't have the capital to hire a dev team atm. I can do the coding or the designing but not both - just a bit too much work for a single person. :)
Hi All,
Like many of you I've been a long time contributor to the newgrounds and the audio forum here (since 2003 actually). The atmosphere on here is great but I'm looking to start development on a new social networking site dedicated solely to sharing and reviewing music. My second goal is to create free podcast / radio shows with user music and develop a voting system with points and weighting.
If you're a PHP coder or web designer and passionate about Music or really enjoy the audio portal but would like to see something more dedicated with a very focused community I'd love to speak with you.
I myself have been a prof web designer for years and have worked with PHP/Databses for very long as well. I'm hoping to build a simple system to start based on a framework such as codeigniter and build up. If you think you would want to contribute to this project please give me a PM - I'd be psyched to gain some partners.

I'm turning one of my comics into a cartoon and need three different characters voiced. Here is a link to the comic strip <A>http://omegarevolution.com/comic1.jpg<A> - the lines go word for word like the storyboard (of course theres room for interpretation). If you think you'd be down to help me out with this please send me a recording of the part or express your interest on this board. Thanks!

I got an immense amount of feedback for the free hosting I was providing, which couldn't have been at a better time because I just started up a website for developers. Wow, okaayyyy so this wasn't meant to piss anyone off or anything. I just know that when I first started up getting interested in programming and web design and whatnot, I would have liked a chunk of a web server to play around with or at least put some of my stuff up. But since youre all getting really anal about this (even though it IS free) heres the shit that that one guy was whining about.

Hey all, I need a couple voice actor for the first part of my space aged action movie. If anyone wants to help me out that'd be great. I need a deep, solid, mature male voice for the Veteren Sargeant of the scout squad and a deep but not as mature voice for the main Scout character. If you are interested in either I would greatly appreciate your help. Here are two lines you can send to me via Email or AIM depending on which part you prefer so i can see what fits the characters best. ;).
Sarge: For every one of you bastards I kill, I want 5 more of you to tell your lil' friends what just ONE of us space marines can do when we're ready to die.
(Sarge gives covering fire amidst a swarm of the aliens while the scout prepares to break for the base.)
Scout: Sarge, Brute, Cass, Dead, the whole squad wiped out. This is...it's impossible. The hive hasn't been seen around earth for a thousand years. Theyre not only back, theyre stronger, faster, and more reenforced. I have to get back to CP1 and warn the company...no matter what.
(Scout is running with the brood on his tail as he recaps on the events of the deaths of his squad and beloved sarge only minutes earlier)

Hey Everyone. I'm currently in the process of creating a flash movie based off of the world of warhammer 40k. I've gone as far as I can and I'm looking for a few male voices to do some of the voice acting for the characters.
So far I need
1. Sargeant Scout - matured, battle-hardened senor officer.
2. (no name yet) Scout - Main Character
3. Random Base Sniper
4. Narrator
If you're interested please contact me by AIM And I'll give you details. The story follows a scout as he progresses through the ranks, earning his right as scout to space marine, and so on, battling tyranids in this first movie and much more later on along the way. Don't let the 40k association throw you please. All help is appreciated, thank you all!
If interested Contact me by AIM @ Elbonzi02

Hey all, I just started submitting songs I mix to the audio portal, and since its not very popular yet, i was wondering if anyone knew of another site to submit and exchange audio mixes that you make. Kinda like a Newgrounds specializing in audio?
Wow r u serious, every 10 seconds? cool that helps. But 1 question. What if oyu have a large sound file, that runs the whole movie? If you run it in the first scene will it continue the whole movie? or do you divide the sound up?
Hey all, I love making flash movies, but i seem to have a big hinderance when it comes to making longer movies. I love to animate everything in my movies from detailed moving body parts to animated backgrounds, but this tends to make a lot of symbols and layers. What's the best way to organize your stuff? Folders, or new scenes, etc? please advise, thanks!
