So Now That The Art Portal Is Open Posted June 19th, 2009 in Art

This might have been asked but... just in case.

Are all of these personal art threads going to be deleted/locked/obsolete?

I think they should be locked cause I've always hated the congestion on the art forum with these personalized threads. Of course, some guys have a ton of art on their threads (like me), and it's going to take at least a couple hours of tedious resaving to my comp and then submitting to the Art Portal. So you shoudl warn the people first. Also, some people with threads haven't been scouted yet (again like me) so you allow those threads to survive until they get scouted authors as well.

It doesn't matter, as long as you are a student of a school, the school has the responsibility to take action against anything you say or post on the internet if it goes against school policy. Not my opinion, it's the way the public school system is enforced.

Response to: Animating styles? Posted June 13th, 2009 in Game Development

Depends on the animation. Two flashes i'm working on have two very different styles. One can be best described as a more conventional flash style, the distinguishing feature being very detailed heads and hands. The other flash has an ultra-realistic look in the characters with distorted perspective backgrounds.

But yeah either way I use a lot of fbf.

Response to: Logical Society Posted June 13th, 2009 in Politics

I don't see how you could possibly have a society based on rationality as the rational decision is different for each person and decision making itself is an irrational act. For instance, it's conceivable to imagine that had life never started, the universe itself would have had a predestination, the only laws governing it were those of physics. Think about it, every change on an earth without life would have been a change that was always meant to happen, always going to happen because there was nothing to decided it shouldn't happen. It truly was a butterfly effect (albeit one that has had an insignificantly small impact on the universe as a whole) when the first lifeform acted in a way that was not governed by the laws of physics. It gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "to act is to change."

Now if we were to assume this first lifeform was rational it would immediately be posed with a few questions of logic and would probably come up with these answers. "Because I have come to be, I have already changed the course of the universe, as small a change as I am." It determines that it has already become an illogical entity incomparison with the rest of the universe. It would soon realize that being the only lifeform in the universe makes it unique. It realizes that everything else in the universe could care less that an unexpected change in plan has occured.

Here we come to the first issue. What prompts the development of the instinct to survive? Well instinct cannot just appear, that is logical to say the least. Thus it must have been born from physics. Here we get a little technical and even more theoretical. Physics says that the fastest change can occur is at the speed of light. We also know that the universe resists change to an extent. So this means that the force of the existence of this being is great enough to overcome the universes resistance. At the same time, the physics within the being itself is able to resist being overcome. And so while the exterior physics and interior physics are logically the same physics, rationally one would consider the interior physic to be stronger at the moment. This is where instinct comes in. It is a simple interaction of the illogical that life exists. In the big picture of life, all of life can be simplified as pools of resistance to the natural laws of physics. We don't even realize it, but our instinct to survive is not rationality, but physics.

Conclusion (and by extension, a metaphysical definition of life): Life is an illogical, semi-permeable barrier in the Universe that separates two logically operating sectors of the universe. It's illogicality derives from its resistance to the universes physical obligation to restore equilibrium between the two sectors of universe. Since neither universe can satisfactorily destroy the barrier before the speed of light transfers this information between the two universes, the barrier is said to have an instinct or intent, and is living.

So that's my long-winded theory as to why life itself is illogical and thus any rational attempt at a society based on logic would ultimately be irrational is some way.

I was just watching Tetris'D and though I'm saying that cobra used the new bone transformation tool in CS4 for his whole animation, it just got me thinking about how CS4 could change stick figure animations forever. Essentially, stick figures are skeletons and so using the bone tool would be able to make a quality stick animation with little to no effort. I'm not saying this is a bad thing necessarily (smooth animation is smooth animation in my opinion) but I've noticed the huge step Adobe has taken towards more conventional animation software, especially with the addition of 3D. No doubt it makes it more appealing to the professional designer, but at the same time it is sort o a downer that now it's getting harder to distinguish between fbf and tweening, In relation to animation in general, not just stick figures. I don't pretend to be a purely fbf guy but at the same time I like the fact that some people who review my stuff recognize that certain parts or segments of a flash take a lot more effort than others.

I probably should let it go and continue what I've been doing. But has anyone else had the same concern?

Maybe I'm the only one who finds believing that I'm the only one who controls my fate, my decisions, and lifestyles, even just a little bit empowering.

Response to: Why is it so hard... Posted June 11th, 2009 in Politics

It's simple really people either care about their opinion more, or they care about the topic a lot. For instance, I wouldn't just sit here and let you say that it should be alright to commit murder. Since I care about the concept of life, I would try to persuade you to view otherwise. Flame wars on the internet are actually usually started by the original posters because they choose to respond to inflammatory comments in an inflammatory manner.

Also if you're civil then you tend to write in full sentences and use bigger words, which really gets to be a pain on the old wrist.

As a minority, our black oppressors are only as powerful as we majority whites allow them to be. They are so loyal to political correctness, to the idea that to be white is to be a subhuman piece of shit, that they would uphold their ideals of "equality"

And this is where you need to take the blame. You have allowed yourself to become the weakest member of your race, the starving child crying for attention because the mature people who actually see the big picture refuse to give the runt seconds. You may feel that your rant is in support of your position but really it only serves as a lesson to the those who are willing to see the big picture. The racist has become the minority that is oppressed, simply because he supports the view that his race is oppressed when his race doesn't agree. Now you can either see the big picture, the one that shows logically that spending an inordinate amount of time hating anyone or any group is merely a waste of your time and a waste of your life. Mankind naturally oppresses itself and forces itself to assimilate, and it those who refuse that are ultimately the Darwinian minority.

Yes, we are under attack. So far our ability to defend ourselves has been crippled by sabotage inside our own race, but the time when we have the guts to stand up for ourselves is drawing near. More and more, white people are growing tired of the double standards, tired of always having to bow down. Tired of being called crackers, with no way to respond. Tired of being fired and expelled to make room for undeserving black to take our spots. Most most of all, we're just tired. We're just sick, and we are tired.

Well I'm glad you decided to call in the ghost of John Coffey for that last little bit. It makes me wonder if you're really a racist at all.

I have the same problem. It's usually resolved when I have a tablet because I can put the smoothness down to like 25 and it will still look good and the stroke never disappears. But when I don't have a tablet I usually make my drawings bigger than they need to be so I can free transform it to a smaller size after I gotten the outlines in. But yeah lowering the smoothness should help regardless. It's in the properties panel of the brush.

heres a good link talking about the difference between a dark, specially crafted movie theater and a computer screen and how the colours and situations effect the "smoothness"

Its a lot more than just a magical number for every situation.

That's a really interesting article.

I think the most important thing to take away from that for flash movies is that the more detailed you make your movie, the higher framerate you need in order for the animation to appear smooth. That makes sense because the eyes are perceiving the change of many more colors between each frame and so any erratic behavior would be more noticeable.

I don't really know how mrsound works but it sounds like you need to figure out a way to put the contents of mrsound into the game .fla. Otherwise, as the http://www.madnesswiki.com/index.php/Mod s Mods on Madness wiki say, you need to have your viewers download mrsound.swf and put it the the same folder as the download game (wherever the game is being cache) good luck with that.

Response to: Looking for opinions Posted June 7th, 2009 in Game Development

I don't want to be a stick the mud. But a series that together goes as a movie is going to take more than a year to make (if it's going to be any quality)

Take it from someone who nearly blew his grade goodbye because he thought he could make a quality 5 minute animation in 3 months, working at least an hour a day. Now I'm working into the summer on a project I thought I was going to be done with.

I like your idea though, and it reminds me a lot of the final season of moral orel. I'd just make sure you write down your whole schedule and write out deadlines for yourself. I don't know what your flash is but if it has voices, sound effects, script-writing that all has to be taken into account. Good luck.
