FROM THE NEWGROUND'S BBS RULES:
* Give your topic a relevant and descriptive title.
* No story threads, 'Rate me' threads, limited choice topics.
* No topic that only a limited number of people can respond too.
* If a thread looks like spam, don’t bother posting in it.
I can’t help but notice that the BBS has been going through some problems with topic making as of late. Now, I know that I’m not the most experienced of users, nor do I carry any actual authority, but I hope nonetheless that you read this guide. With your help, we can reduce the amount of crappy threads that plague the front page, while at the same time preserving the quality ones.
The redesign is coming, and a whole new ere of Newgrounds will arrive with it. We’re going to see a change in not only the look of the site, but the feel as well. There’s going to be new users coming to the site, as well as old users returning, and the BBS is part of this change as well. Mods are going to delete topics that don’t obey the rules, and ban the users that create them.
REMEMBER: In order to keep the quality threads alive, try not to respond to the crappy ones, it really irritates me when I spend a long time on a thread, just to watch it get 5 replies.
1. Always use proper grammar. This is the number one most important thing to go over before submitting your new topic. No one is going to want to read your topic if it’s written like you’re a 5-year-old. If your not sure if you’re using a word correctly, or spelling it right, try writing your topics in a word processing program before putting them on Newgrounds. That way, you can make any changes you need to make, and give it a good read-through. This also includes making different paragraphs for different points, no one wants to read a giant paragraph that’s 20+ lines.
2. Always have a point. Your topic should always have at least some level of intelligence involved in it, even if you’re just trying to be funny. If you want to be funny, then that’s enough of a point to post, but if you want to post random gibberish just to go up in post count, then your thread will most likely be deleted. Old news, copy and pasting articles from a website that aren’t interesting, or following an old trend (RickRoll, Splash Attack, etc.) are all pointless topics. Keep these types of posts to a minimum, but occasionally they’re considered OK.
3. Keep a clear mind when posting. Posting under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or being in a severe state of anger/depression when posting is a recipe for disaster. Write yourself a sticky note and stick it on your computer if you have to.
4. Be funny, for the love of god. I’m not saying that every posts that you make needs to be covered in sarcasm sause, but if your going for the funny thread, than make sure that your being funny. There’s some things that are funny, but there’s some things that will get you banned, and you need to be smart enough to tell the difference between the two. If you’re not sure if you’re being funny, make sure to lurk around funny threads as much as possible before making yours. Good luck to you, because being funny is hard.
If you're going to post something, but aren't sure if it'd be considered a valid/good thread, you're best bet is to ask a mod. They've all seen plenty of good threads and plenty of bad ones, so they know what's best.
