- Some of the author's older flashes are considerably worse.
I'd say he got the flash from videlectrix and uploaded it here.
And remember that we are supposed to vote the flash depending on its quality, whether it's stolen or not.
Anyway, the flash was flagged.
Actually, to be honest, "Videlectrix" does not exist. It is a fake video game brand created by the Homestar Runner website (www.homestarrunner.com). Homestar Runner has been around for the longest time and is quite a fully site, too...once you get to know the characters a bit on there, the Strong Bad Emails are some of the funniest Flash animations you'll ever see. The whole Videlectrix thing started off because the author loves classic video games and he basically emulated that through Strong Bad, who was talking about "awesome classic games" like "Secret Collect" and other games that are basically Atari-like and involve a bunch of dots going around the screen.
I have a lot more background on these games, including the Strong Bad Email that "Stinko Man" is based on. I'll provide them if you guys want. Either way, I highly recommend checking out homestarrunner.com and start listening to the SBEmails...you will laugh, I promise.

If you're using a Mac like me, I recommend Colloquy. It's a free client for Mac, and it's arguably the best for the Mac OS platform. Joining my server with Colloquy is really easy too. Just click "New server" on the Connections window, enter your nickname, and enter "egbirc.eagleworld.net" as the server name. All the rest can be left alone. Once you're in the server, click "Join Room" and enter "#EGB". Enjoy!

Well, IRC can get boring with only a few people on. I want to try to get everyone to log in on a semi-regular basis, so that way whenever you join, we always have at least a few people on IRC. During the weekends or whenever everyone's off work/school/whatever, it'll be one big Barracks chatroom! So, assuming we get more people to join and help people like plantomlassuk and Sheizenhammer get on, we'll build up a nice userbase and make the server worth actually joining. It'll certainly be better than forcing everyone to use AIM and organizing a chat room every time we want to talk. Plus, we can create as many rooms in there as you like, so we can make private rooms, a warroom, and things like the #Violations channel (like I already created) for discussions on rulebreaking.
Oh yeah, one more thing: For people using XChat (like Sheizenhammer), I've posted step-by-step instructions on how to configure it on the EGB forums here.

Well, let me state that "fun" is never an issue here...the whole friggin' point of Newgrounds is to have fun. I would just like the spammy posts to be kept down, which obviously you understand.
Usually when I get caught up in a moment where energy is high and everyone's having a good time, I guess I somewhat forget that I need to cool my jets and transition from one thing to another. Spiffy was on the IRC last night, he, Ismael and I were having a good time and were just screwing around for the hell of it, and some of that behavior transferred into our thread.
I understand fully. Of course, the IRC server and forums are at your full disposal to use as you wish (as long as your are not causing issue for others, of course), and any actions there are acceptable, as they are under my jurisdiction. However, the BBS is run by the NG moderators, and we are to abide by the rules and code of conduct. So, no worries.
Again, I deeply apologize for my actions, Supreme Commander EagleRock.
Accepted. You got the hint. And don't think I don't want you having fun around here, as that is a conflict of interest for what I created this place for. :-) Thanks for understanding!
*Salute* Sir, it will not happen again, Sir!

I have to say I think they finally got the hint. All's well that ends well, IMHO. It looks like their topics are more serious/non-spammy, yet they are still light-hearted and fun. That's what the goal was all along: still having fun and keeping the happiness alive, just making sure to follow the rules in the process. If they keep this up, they'll be working to prove to the mods that the unlock was not in vain.
Also, congrats to SpiffyMasta for the new job of the new Unit Ops at the NGPD. *hands a reward of some kind to Spiffy* Congrats man, you deserve it. DON'T LET KANYE RUIN YOUR SPEECH!!!!!!
Actually, I'd worry more about Taylor Swift coming out and counter-ruining the speech. Let's face it: she's on a warpath after the VMA!

Cobra: This is two times I've had to say it. Spammy posts are expressly forbidden in the Elite Guard Barracks. Please re-read our FAQ and pay close attention to the responsibilities of Barracks members. You are not to perform any action that puts the Barracks in jeopardy. As is evidenced by the NGPD lock, the mods are not keen on people performing spammy posts, no matter how short-lived the "stint" is. Please do not make me comment like this a third time, as it will not be as pleasant. You're an officer of the Barracks now, and your actions need to be more than just satisfactory as a member, they need to be exemplary and should be a role-model to others. We all know you're not a spammy user, and your experience in flagging shows you expertly know the difference between a spammy post and a non-spammy one. Therefore, there's no need to resort to it here. Having fun in our forums is fine, of course, but here it is expressly forbidden. Please keep this in mind for the future. Thanks!

Anyway, I never liked ending a post on a sour note. So, I'll remind everyone that IRC is still running, and I invite everyone to chat it up! Also, I AM still working on my story, I promise. I've been busy lately setting up the IRC server and reconfiguring my netbook, but that's all past now, so I can concentrate on the story again. I'll hopefully get Chapter 6 out soon!

Thanks for showing interest in the Elite Guard Barracks! Unfortunately, you do not fulfill the requirements to join. To do so, you need to have at least 2,500 B/P points (Elite Guard Private or better). a bronze whistle, and a good posting history. If you are not familiar with blamming or protecting, you can consult the Newgrounds FAQ for instructions. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me anytime!

The OLD badges. Specifically the fiery Supreme Commander badge. Though, any of the old badges would do, especially the old Sergeant Major badge...looked awesome as well.

I can't say that this was really the case since most liaisons were met with inactivity (no offense Rohan).
But I feel that if Lizz is selected, that'll all change ;)
To give you an exact definition of the NGPD Laison, he or she is responsible for keeping strong relations between the two clubs. More specifically, the Laison should be active in both clubs and is responsible for formal communication between the two. Lizz fits this perfectly as he is active on your thread and forums, so he is knowledgeable on the EGB and the NGPD. If NGPD member have questions regarding the EGB, he is an in-thread resource. The opposite works in the EGB as well.
That being said, I apologize if the NGPD Laisons were not always the most active members... ;-) However, Lizz is rather active in both clubs and knows both very well. Therefore, he'll be a perfect person for the role.

Sounds like a true Italian Thanksgiving. That's basically what we do at the in-laws', except smaller turkey...:-)
Afterwards, we will have homemade pumpkin pie, cheesecake, apple pie and tapioca, as well as numerous flavors of ice cream and jello, followed by three or four trays of Italian pastry (like cannollis, petit-fours and neopolitans) and chocolate-dipped cookies.
Yum. We tend to do more traditional Thanksgiving desserts, such as apple and pumpkin pie (my wife makes the pumpkin pie, which is superb, might I add :-).
We have officially made Thanksgiving an Olympic event!

Yeah, frankly I'm a bit overwhelmed at everybody's commendations, as I've seen myself somewhat as the quiet man of the EGB. Still, the support is very reassuring (and it may score me a cameo in Back to the Barracks ;P).

ANY TIME is a good time to link to that. Thanks for getting it stuck in my head btw... :-/
Well, just stop by and post your achievements - you don't need to post lists, we're happy to have the company.
Bahamut and Haggard both gave up with lists and now just lounge in there. So does gfoxcook, from time to time.
I'll have to consider it. It was a fun place to do bragging back in the day, and it might be good to just hand around the veterans once again.
It's not the flavour I'm worried about, it's the fact that people don't tend to like horses that have turned into planes. I wouldn't turn it back, because I'm not a fan of horse winky :PMy horse wouldn't kick me, look at my horse, my horse is amazing!I'm not going to lick it. I don't care it if tastes like raisins.
I'd like to interject a completely irrational note here...
The horse has amazing powers that allow it to turn into a plane by a stroke of its mane, correct? Therefore, assuming TheWeebl (I'm assuming that was supposed to be him) does in fact stroke his mane and turn him into a plane, he would transform into one right on the spot. The horse would now, in fact, be an airplane, wings, metal, fuselage and all.
Here's my concern: you transform the plane back into the horse by tugging on its winky. However, where does the winky go, exactly? Does the airplane just happen to have a large penis flapping by as it flies through the air? Or is there a hidden compartment that you need to open to access said winky? I mean, the logistics just seem...weird.
So, don't ask yourself if you hate horse winky...ask yourself if you hate airplane winky... :-)

Or maybe it's stayed the same, and it's become easier to reach that level as flash has gotten better and tutorials are easier to find. Who knows?
I think it's a combination of both. Let's remember that back in the day Pico was top-notch Flash. Nowadays, Pico looks mediocre. So, the quality has gone up over time, and the amount of highly-competent artists have gone up, too. Also, like you said, Clock Day '07 started a trend of spamwhoring.
IRC sounds like an amazing idea! I'm totally down for that if you want to start it up eagle. I love how convenient it is.
Well, now that it's up, I hope to see some people signing on! So far, I've registered #EGB for regular chats and #Violations as our violations desk. Enjoy!

He certainly did a number of this place. Back in the day, when I'd be inactive for a couple of months, I'd come back and have a bunch of issues to resolve. Since I returned last, not a single problem was around. The guy knows how to run a tight ship. :-)
Apologies again for not responding sooner Eagle.
No apologies necessary. Life is full of personal issues to take care of, and I'd never blame someone for their personal life taking precedence over Newgrounds.
At the moment my situation is this; I have a pretty hectic schedule which basically sees me in college from 9.00-19.00 on pretty much a daily basis, plus given my course I have a lot of lab reports to due. However, with that said I generally still find time to deposit, and then check over the Barracks thread to see if there are any issues requiring immediate attention.
I've been there myself. I would spend all day and all night at college, starting at 8AM and only coming home around 10:30 at night after my last class. In the middle I'd either be working, studying, or doing whatever. Life is hectic, and I can certainly sympathize with your plight. Still I'm glad you find the time to post/lurk/deposit!
In a nutshell, with your blessing I'd be delighted to accept the 2LCBO position for the time being, and if the situation becomes untenable then I may reconsider my position.
Since you are lurking on a regular basis, I think the position would be good for you, as I am sure you'd be able to jump in in case myself or Phantom are not around. You have people vouching for you left and right, so I know you are the man for the job. :-)
Long time no see Coop :P When I stopped posting in the LUL I pretty much lost most of my motivation to post for the time being, unless it is something I really wish to say. As I've said before, I will be around more for Christmas, which will hopefully translate to more regular posting.
I'd never dare go back to the LUL..there are just way too many congratulations to keep up with :-P I love the idea of the place, but time is ultimately lacking for me there. :-)
My horse wouldn't kick me, look at my horse, my horse is amazing!
I'm not going to lick it. I don't care it if tastes like raisins.
One last thing. While I do feel I can maintain the role of 2LCBO should Eagle be ok with it, I feel that perhaps the time has come to relinquish the post of NGPD Liaison Officer.
I'd say that's a fair assessment of the situation. I'd agree that it is probably time to pass it onto someone that can be more active in the NGPD.
Regarding my successor...my choice would be Lizzardis.
Well, I think you hit the nail right on the head with that one. As you said Lizz is kind enough to manage their roster, and he is highly active with the NGPD as well as the EGB. I can't think of a more perfect person for the role at this time. His actions speak for himself. All that's left for him to do is accept. :-)
Well guys, that's pretty much it. I've got to tear into some lab reports (as usual) but just keep in mind, I am around, and you can always catch me via PM.
*salutes*
Slash has already taken the liberty of adjusting the official roster, but I will just wait on Lizz accepting the NGPD Laison role before updating the roster there as well. In the meantime, check out the new IRC! I'll bring cookies!

Since you have a garbage whistle, you cannot flag Flash submissions anymore. The only way to improve your whistle is by flagging abusive reviews. Best thing to do is look at recent Portal entries and evaluate the reviews there. If you see blatantly malicious or abusive reviews, go ahead and flag them. Over time, you'll bring yourself back to a normal whistle level, and eventually hit that bronze. If you are unsure about something, don't whistle it. It's better to err on the side of caution than give yourself more negative flaggings.
As far as B/P, just keep at it. I'm sure you'll reach Elite Guard level in no-time. In the meantime, you might want to check out the NG Police Headquaters, as they will probably accept you and they can also help you wtih review flagging and polishing up that whistle. Hope it helps! If you have any more questions, feel free to PM or IM me.
At 11/16/09 06:45 AM, Coop83 wrote: Not at all - lots of the stuff that passes judgement would not necessarily have passed a few years ago. I think the problem is down to people who think that it's going to pass, so they vote 2-5 on it. Dickheads that vote 5 on a flash that's barely worth 2 should have something nasty happen to them in my opinion.
Yeah, unfortunately, I've seen the trend shift due to certain regular Flash that get past the Portal that people will instinctively vote 2-5 on because they know the Flash series either has enough history to pass or has enough people behind it. As it were, this caused an eventual shift from a blam-happy NG like 2001-2003 was to a save-happy NG like 2007-present.
The main problem there is that it is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Perhaps if we could convince more people to think a flash was going to be blammed, they would change their minds and their votes. Not that I'm encouraging people to vote to Blam stuff, more to vote for what it deserves.
I've been saying this for years. My whole contention is that by doing what we do here (promote unbiased, fair voting, no matter the person, Flash history, etc.), we are shifting towards a more neutral NG which does not have a preference towards blams or saves. The more people that do this, the more prevalent the fair voting comes into play. Let's remember that a Flash only gets 200 votes UJ, sometimes less depending on how high its rating is. The means that if we can get more and more to commit to fair voting, anyone trying to skew a Flash's vote to force a save/blam now needs to work harder. The more of us that commit..the more and more they will fail. Eventujally the general public will catch on and cause another global shift in voting habits, just like it did from blamwhoring to savewhoring.
Should we check to see if Rohan hasn't been eaten by one?
Either that, or he got kicked to death by his own horse.
I was always more of a Gondor lad ;)
Ouch...I am a LotR whore...and that joke hurt my brain. :-P
But yeah, if Rohan doesn't respond soon, I'll assume he's gone inactive and appoint someone else in the role, at least for now. Unfortunately, I know little about Rohan, but if Slash was willing to appoint him as Emergency Ops, I'm assuming he had a high opinion of the guy. Therefore, I'd like to give him a chance to respond to see if he's going to be active. Otherwise, I'll look to give the role to someone that plans to be more active.

EagleRock, should he choose to accept it, is again instated as Chief Barracks Officer.
Well, you know I'd accept as long as I feel I'd be active enough to assume the role. I can safely say I feel I can keep active for a while, so I do accept.
And lastly, I will place myself as the Emergency Command Officer, in the event that balrogs kill all of the above.
Seems fair to me. I think that's actually a great role for you, as you might not be active, but you can always come around in an emergency.
I've also decided to keep up with the recruitment procedures for now, since scanning the thread a couple times a day isn't time-consuming.
Even if you didn't mention it, I'd have reappointed you the Recruitment Officer. Unless we magically have hundreds of new applicants day-by-day, it's the perfect role for you.
So yeah, better to quit without any major screw-ups than force myself to continue and end up doing everything half-assed. It has been an honor commanding you, and an honor to help fend off the pointless idiocy in the Portal. I'm back to being a soldier, and even if I do leave for good someday, Slash always returns.

Just reading this made me think the 75+ pacers list should be scrapped to make way for Top B/P'ers. I'll see what the others think when making the update tonight. As for the bold pacers, I'll keep it to 50+ which is half of star pace. Seems fair for today's standards.
Unfortunately, that's a good point. This ain't 2005 no more, folks. I'm sure a nice top 10 list or something would be appreciated. It'll probably give others more face-time, too...not everyone can be a star-pacer anymore :-P
Hey, there's always room for improvement. :)
And thanks for the hard work as always! :-)

I loved that season of Last Comic Standing...the whole politics in the house with Rich Vos as "The Don" was incredibly interesting. Also, I would've chosen him or Ralphie May over Dat Phan. Dat was awesome, but his jokes were repetitive. Vos and May had much more material to work with than his mother and Top Ramen...lol

Nice to see some familiar faces back in the Barracks! We've seen some old members coming around for a while now, which is always nice. If anyone is planning on sticking around, just let us know in the thread (or you can PM me) and we can put you back on the active roster!

Beg more questions than it answers? No, that wouldn't make it a bio midterm, that'd make it a standard episode of Lost. :-P
Have fun - hope you like it!
As usual, I enjoyed it profusely. I'll admit it's tough getting any more speculation out, but I left some comments in the approprate thread. Excellent work as usual!

I'm glad it worked out well for the NGPD. I just hope they can pick up the pieces and move on from where they left off. Think of it as a positive note, as you can show the moderators that you are worthy of keeping the club and show that things are now for the better. :-)

I agree that we should help them out whenever we can, but please do remember that the NGPD is its own group, and the EGB holds no authority on it. We can make our friendly recommendations as allies, but Tails' leadership over the NGPD should be respected. I'm only saying because it's happened in the past, and Tails was understandingly pissed off because of it. However, I'm sure that your assistances would be only recommendations anyway, so I'm really just being precautionary. :-)

It still amazes me what people try to steal. I still laugh when someone bothers to try to steal a flash that is ridiculously prominent on the Top 50 list. Thanks for the heads-up!

Thanks for showing your interest in the Barracks! As others have already said, you don't yet meet the requirements to join. The requirements are as follows:
- B/P rank of Elite Guard Private or higher (minimum of 2,500 B/P)
- Minimum whistle status of Bronze or higher
- Good posting habits and a history of such to back it up
You seem to understand B/Ping already, but here's a link to the FAQ for convenience. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me and I'll answer them for you. :-)

Yeah, it could be a place where Eagle hosts a wave for his stories, for example. A place where discussions about potential members happens in real time, that sort of thing.
I also see it as a great chat room, greater than using IM or some chat on a web page. You could literally see what all of the EGB is doing at that time...I think it'd be a blast!

I read the procedure and all of your posts, so I'm glad to see that the procedure was successful, and here's hoping for a speedy recovery!
1) You will never get any better sleep then when you're knocked out with anesthesia.
I remember when I had to get foot surgery due to an accident in martial arts...I saw the guy inject something into my IV hookup, and I remember saying "So, how long before this takes affeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..." *sleep*
I woke up feeling like I just had like 20 beers...it was awesome.
2) Percasets are one hell of a drug
Oxycodone is the shit...no doubt. I'm someone with a large tolerance for stuff like alcohol and painkillers, so I can actually drive and function normally on oxy, but man, when that stuff starts working, it's like a blanket of awesome slowly coating your body. Ahhhhhhh...
3) Even though the surgeons broke my nose and cut my nostrils, nothing hurts more than a dry throat sore from the breathing pipe they put down it for the anesthesia.
Ugh...I can imagine...that doesn't seem to be a think that painkillers can easily resolve.
4) When you're 10 minutes out of surgery, don't hit on the nurses, even if they are hot. Because trust me, you look like to belong in the morgue.
HAHAHA...I'll remember that tip, thanks. Of course, you might have the Florence Nightingale effect work towards your favor, so it's worth a shot. :-P

Really? We're going to resort to this now?
This is the EXACT type of posting that got the NGPD locked. Personally, I don't want to go that route, so let's stop this immediately. If you joke around with stuff like this as part of a normal, that's fine. Otherwise, keep it off this thread. It does not belong here. I personally despise one-liner posts and post + 1 content myself, as it oozes of immaturity and stupidity. A little fun is fine, but when it gets out of hand, it gets out of hand fast. So, like I said, either roll it into a larger post, or just can it altogether. I really don't like taking disciplinary action regarding this stuff, but I will do so if necessary.
Anyway, now that the unpleasantries are out of the way, let's move on to better things:
At 11/5/09 05:04 AM, Sheizenhammer wrote: I'd say that's OK. If you look, you'll see that the submitting account has a heap of other games submitted a while ago. It may look old, but it also looks like it's a website owner uploading his / her store of games onto NG, like what happened with the Gamesforgirls account a while ago. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you; the e-mail doesn't always match up to the website name on these things.
I'd agree with this assessment. I've noticed that figuring out if a flash is stolen or not is a LOT harder nowadays that it was in the past. Back then, there weren't as many "professional" Flash sites submitting stuff to Newgrounds, so finding something like this was pretty cut and dry: simply stolen. Nowadays, these sites are all over the web, so figuring out which one is the real one just becomes harder and harder.

Happy times for the Yankee fans! I do have to give Philadelphia credit for putting up such a strong game! I must admit I first dismissed the Phillies as not being as strong of an adversary when compared to the Angels, but I was clearly wrong. It was a fight right down to the last game. Even with a 4 run lead this game was a nailbiter right until Rivera's last pitch. It had that vibe that it could bounce back any second.
I'd say it's obviosuly no secret that this could be Matsui's last year, so if he has to go, at least he did with a bang. I've never seen single-game performance like that in ages, never mine in the freakin' World Series. I don't blame the Yankees if they are opting for younger players, but it's not going to be a happy day seeing Godzilla leave New York.
In the meantime, time to celebrate big ol' 27!

Simple: it's an online collaboration tool that is supposed to remove the need for instant messages, forums, email, file servers, etc. It makes it possible to collaborate in a much easier way. It's really gauged for businesses that have multiple offices, but it's good for basically any group trying to collaborate on the Internet.
What does everyone see as so useful here? I can't see anything I haven't already seen before elsewhere. What am I missing this time? :/
The idea is everything you need is here, all at once. Nothing else necessary. Again, not anything useful for someone playing around on Newgrounds, but for a business, it's a really big deal. No more need for email, fileservers, sharepoint servers, IM servers, etc.

Yeah, you're right about that one.
I've seen this one at least seven times aready. What I think is happening is that the author doesn't know how to edit his flash after submitting it, so is deleting and re-uploading edits of it over and over.
I noticed that the Flash had steadily improved over time. At first I was blamming it, honestly, but after a while he added enough to make it protection-worthy, at least in my opinion. I don't think it was malicious...he was legitimately trying to improve the Flash. Sheiz hit it on the head with the fact that he probably just doesn't know how to edit the Flash.
If anyone knows exactly how the edit process works, it might be worth PMing him with the information in an attempt to stop all the pointless re-uploads.
I'm not sure myself. I know the Barney Bunch sure knows how... XD
Anyway, here's Chapter 3 of my story! Enjoy!

MUST you keep bringing that up?? :-P
He's proven that he can hit in pressure situations and he's looking dangerous at the moment. He's done it all, including getting hit by a pitch 3 times in 2 nights. What the hell was that umpiring farce about last night? I thought that they warned the benches when A-Rod got drilled and as a result, when Lidge hit Tex, I thought he was out of there for sure.
Yeah, but i still think that second hit was unintentional. Fishy, maybe, but I doubt it was on purpose. Even Girardi didn't bother to argue it.
I'm quite interested to see how tonight will pan out. I think everyone knows that Cliff Lee is the best answer to the Yanks that the Phillies have right now. If the Yanks are gonna lose a game, tonight's probably the night.
However, I think AJ Burnett is probably the best pitcher to go up against him at this point. When Burnett is in the zone, he's damn near unhittable. When he sucks, though, he SUCKS. I'd say it could go two ways tonight: either Burnett holds his own against Lee and the game could basically come up to the Bullpens, or Burnett sucks balls and gives up 87 runs in the first inning and the Yanks try to take it back in the Bronx. Either way, a loss to the Phillies tonight seems status quo to me.
At 11/2/09 11:57 AM, Rubberguy wrote: Can I join? I would love to me a member, I might be lvl 3 but I can kick ass when I want.
Thanks for your interest! However, as Sheizenhammer already stated, you need to be a minimum of Elite Guard Private (2500 B/P or more) to join, have an established good post history, and have a minimum of a bronze whistle.
Here is some info to get you started:
You get B/P points by going to the Flash Portal (big button in the header) and voting on Under Judgment flashes (highlighted in purple).
A flash must pass several checkpoints to pass judgment. If it's below the required score at a checkpoint, it is deleted, and anyone who voted 0 or 1 on it will gain a Blam Point.
50 votes - 0.60
100 votes - 0.75
150 votes - 1.25
200 votes - 1.60
*Note---flashes with multiple co-authors must meet higher requirements, although the exact scores needed aren't widely known.
After a flash passes 200 votes and has a score of 1.60 or higher, it is saved, and everyone who gave it a 2, 3, 4, or 5 gets a Protect Point. Also, once a flash has passed, it can never be deleted, regardless of how low its score gets. Only an admin or the author could remove it post-judgment.
Add up your Blam and Protect points to get your B/P total. The higher your total, the higher your rank---ranging from Civilian to Supreme Commander. Higher ranks give more prestige and a boost to your vote power. Click here to see a list of all the ranks, including B/P requirements, badges, and the experience boost.
Good luck! Feel free to IM me or PM me if you have questions.
