Yeah I tried that.

Never mind about this problem, I managed to fix it by increasing the export quality of my sound effects. Thanks for the help though :)

No edit button, so just adding something in a classy double post. I would totally be down for making something very 80s.

Perfect! So what part/parts of the song would you like to do?

Hi, Im having a problem with the audio in flash. When I set up sound events in flash and play them in the timeline they work fine, but then when I run a preview they quickly get more and more off sync and within a few seconds the sounds are off by a number of seconds. My compression mode is set to MP3, and the only way I can make the sync work correctly is if I set the compression to RAW, and that makes my flash over 17 MB's big. The file is 1.7 MB big under MP3 compression.

So my question is how can I make the sound work under mp3 compression?

Tried it a while back! I must say it's lotsa fun. My song is pretty shit at it.

I definitely wanna hear where this goes.

Sounds pretty good, youve definately got the 80's Idea!

This is my first Collab, so Im gonna try and get this show on the road. Here is how its gonna go down:

Genre: Anything 80's if it sounds 80's its in, just try and make it somewhat melodic

Length: Compose a clip that lasts somewhere around 20-30 seconds

Mood: Upbeat, same kind of mood as Journey's "Any way you want it" or Phil Collins "Invisible touch". That doesnt mean it has to be in that Genre or sound similar, just try to keep the mood upbeat with a nice melody.

Too keep in the 80's style I think it would be interesting to have 1 buildup track, 1 10-15 second chorus track to be repeated a number of times, a before 1st chorus track to go after the buildup, a before second chorus, then a bridge thats a bit slower and a little less upbeat, and finally the chorus again remixed to end the song. Thats not written in stone, if you guys have other ideas let me know, anything can work.

Alright so I guess thats the rundown! Any questions just ask, since this is my first collab im a little sketchy on how things are gonna work, but bear with me.

Lately Im getting sick of all the new "music" on the radio. Everytime I turn it on all I hear is either some woman singing infront of a drum machine or Rap. What ever happened to Rock and Roll? Alternative? What ever happened to all the Genres other than Rap and 1 Drum Machine/0 Music? I miss the days when the singer wasnt the center of the band, back when every instruments part was written with care and any repeating riffs were played not looped. Back in the days were synthesizers were toys and not instruments. This Is why I wanted to start an 80's collab. I dont know what 80's genre we should use, so that would have to be decided.

Come on people, lets bring back some 80's!

In the end it's all about experimentation and doing what you think might be cool. And remember, even if you think it sounds terrible, it's probably not that bad and the only way to be sure is to have other people tell you what they think.

I dunno, if I think it sounds terrible it usually does. Besides, If I dont like the song Im composing I stop, because If I dont have a good feel for a song it is guaranteed to turn out crap, and usually I just write the music for myself to listen to anyway.

If you've got $35, I recommend "The Mixing Engineer's Handbook," by Bobby Owsinsky which has a lot of good info in it. Not only are there explanations of some some signal processing concepts like compression, delay, and reverb (which is what you'll probably use a good deal of the time), there are a lot of interviews with some really top notch mixing and mastering engineers. It definitely helped me out a lot.

Theres a book? Thanks alot, I think ill look into that i didnt realize someone wrote book :D

15w isn't loud. Anything over 60w is loud.

Yeah but its damn loud for a practice amp. When I started playing guitar I didnt want to fork out 500 bucks for a big amp, thats why the Cube 15 is the best for its money.

Well, I have a squier stratocaster and I havent had any problems with it. There is a Kit you can buy that comes with the Fender Frontman amp but DONT BUY IT. I cant stress that enough. That amp is absolute crap. It blew up on the day I got it and when I looked on the internet it turned out everyone elses did too. If you want a good practice amp get the Roland Cube 15, its an amazing amp with 4 built in distortion effects that are all very good and it is LOUD. The best thing about it is that in only costs like a hundred bucks. It is a good amp, if you need a practice amp there is no better amp (to my knowledge).

EDIT: (theres no edit button, right? i didnt see it im sorry if there is just let me know)

Now that I think of it The snare reverb effect should be alot longer and synthetic sounding than that on She drives me crazy. I would, however, like to know were I can get a snare that sounds like that :D

Im wondering if anyone can help me out with this. Ive looked all over the internet and tried a dozen different sets of drum VST's and samples but I just cant seem to find a good 80's style synthesized drum sound. What Im looking for is drums similar to the ones in Michael Jacksons "Beat It".

Another good example of what Im looking for is on that episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force were Master Shake gets a crazy cell phone helmet that he gets a whole bunch of accessories for. I want to get a sound similar to the Electric Toms add on for shakes helmet.

Also, while on the subject of 80's style sound how can I make sounds have a long synthetic reverb, similar to the effect on the snare in "She drives me Crazy" by the Fine Young Cannibals.

I would really appreciate some help, thanks!

Now that Ive got figured out, ive got a problem. Whenever I make music I always have trouble picking what types of effects to use, and how to balance the volumes etc. in my songs to make them sound better. I feel like my songs could be doing alot better on this site if I could just figure out how to preperly mix my songs.

So what Im looking for is any pointers; any thing that could help me make my songs sound clean and proffesional. I use FL Studio 8, and I swear to god that I cant even get 10 seconds of audio out of it that sounds even half as good as some of the properly sequenced tracks here on newgrounds.

So what Im asking is, is FL studio the problem, or do I just suck? I assume the answer is B, so what can I do?

I have made many submissions to the audio portal, none of which have lasted longer than about 2 days without being absolutely forgotten and un viewed. So I just wanted to ask what am I doing wrong? When I first made the songs I was making them for myself because I wanted something I could enjoy listening to. But I decided to start posting them up on the internet to see what other people thought of them and no matter where I go they are absolutely ignored. So im asking, what do I do? What is wrong with my music that makes nobody like It but myself? All I want is some feed back, please.

Sorry if I sound like im bitching, Im a little drunk right now (not holy shit whats going on drunk, just alert and thinking drunk) but I just feel like I put all this effort into these songs for nil. Well, I guess I have the songs which is what I wanted in the first place, but It would just make me feel better about it if I knew that they werent absolute shit :)
