The first two games where fun... it's been all downhill after that.

Also, the badly animated cartoon with shitty voice actors didn't help. If anything, I think that was the moment I realized just how lame Sonic was.

Response to: the hardest game you played? Posted February 5th, 2009 in Video Games

Ghouls N Ghosts... or Ghosts N Gobblins.

Me and some friends had that game on one of those "classic aracde collection" disks for the XBox.... all day we played it. Seriously, we just kept switching off players. New people would come over, some people would leave.

We finally made it to the last boss and I killed him twice, but nobody could kill him the third time. We eventually ran out of continues which is something I didn't think was possible on those games.

To this day, I've never beaten it.

Response to: Video Game Cheaters Posted February 5th, 2009 in Video Games

That's why I like the achivement system.

Cheats turn the achivements off... so if you want credit for beating the game, you better do it the real way.

I really don't care if other people cheat though... as long as it's not in multiplayer. if cheating is fun to you, then cheat away, thats the point of a game. But just don't cheat online where it fucks up everybody elses fun.

Response to: ps3 main menu layout boring Posted February 5th, 2009 in Video Games

I don't own a PS3... but when I have to use the one at a friends house, I find the menu cold and intemidating.

I have no idea what a lot of that stuff is and without pretty pictures and descriptions to tell me it's ok to click on it, I'm usually afraid that clicking the wrong thing will erase his hard drive.

It's probably because I don't own a PS3 so I'm not familure with what's what... but still, I agree... a few colored pictures and some nice descriptions on screen wouldn't hurt.

Response to: I want some more wild west games Posted February 5th, 2009 in Video Games

Call of Juarez is out... and Call of Juarez 2 has been announced as well.

Although, the original Call of Juarez isn't anything special.

It's not terrible, but there's nothing really unique about it either. The story idea is cool, you play it through two diffrent characters eyes, but the gameplay is pretty generic. It's worth a rent if you like westerns I guess.

Response to: Learning guitar Posted February 4th, 2009 in General

blah...

All I'm saying is, as a guitarist, I'd never suggest the best method to learn as "just pick it up and fuck around". That, to me, sounds like a garunteed formula for sloppyness or complete failure.

It's not that you can't learn that way, it's just not the best method.

Even if I was going to suggest self learning, I'd at least volunteer some starting information... like tutorial sites or ways I self taught myself. But leaving it as a one sentance post... just sounds like you have no idea what you're talking about and leads me to belive you're just passing on bad information.

Seriously, I'd suggest a teacher. If you can't afforde one, use a friend. If you don't know any, buy 'learning to play' books that feature scales and practice routines... maybe one with a free DVD or play along CD. When you've done that... or better, 3 of them (hopefully in a series), then go to a tab site and start learning to play songs.

But don't tell him he will be a shitty guitar player for learning without an instructor and fucking around on it. It's easier to learn the guitar after you have acquainted yourself with it.

Maybe... Everybody learns diffrently and I agree it completly plausable that you're a better guitar player then me even though you're home taught. Although, really... I highly doubt it.

I've seen a lot of self taught kids play, and almost evey one of them suffers from the same fundemental flaws time and time again. Bad hand position, sloppy picking, unneccessary movement, etc... which is a real shame because if those same kids had just put down the Green Day tab long enough to learn a few scales and exercises they'd probably find themself to be 15 times better then they are now.

I'll put it to you this way... there's a reason that the position of 'guitar teacher' has survived as long as it has... because it's neccesssary. If everybody could be a good guitar player by simply reading a Disturbed tab off the internet, everybody would play like Buckedhead and your local guitar teacher would be looking for a new job.

That's not the case... so it probably wouldn't hurt to call up a teacher and see what he has to offer you. I promise you, he has more to teach you then "play this note. Now play this note". Unforunitly, that's all you'll learn from a tab site.

---3---5---0---5--3--0--3--2--0--

Wow, what a lesson.

Too bad that tab doesn't show you how to pick that, what fingers to use, what type of strokes to use, how fast each note is, how to read sheet music, or what key that riff is in... I'm willing to bet right now, that the op starts this riff with his pointer finger... and guess what, he's already playing it wrong. Yet he has no idea because he can play the riff. And everything he learns after this, will probably be played wrong as well.

The reason it's wrong, because the 2 is in there. If you start this riff with your pointer finger, you have to move your hand up to reach the two. If you start this riff off with your middle finger, you can play the whole thing without moving anything but your fingers.

It's little things like that you probably won't teach yourself. And not because you suck but simply because nobody ever taught you to think this way. You just don't know there's a better method.

I don't mean to be disrespectful... sorry if I come off like I'm attacking you or your skills... I'm not. I don't know shit about you, you might be the next Slash (or slash himself) for all I know. I'm just speaking from experiance.. everybody learns diffrently and it really depends on how much you want to learn.

For a lot of people, being able to just struggle their way through a few songs is good enough. If thats all you want, tab is fine. But if you want to actually play the instrument, I would suggest a skilled teacher and some books on technique.

At 2/4/09 11:47 AM, Scrotaculous wrote: Just fuck around with it, and then go to tabs sites to learn songs.

WRONG!

Basics, basics, basics my friend. If you "just fuck around with it" and immediatly jump into tab sites and punk songs you'll forever teach yourself terrible habbits and forever remain a shitty guitar player.

You have to work on the small things... hand position, control of your fingers, how you hold your pick, etc...

In my years I've seen a lot of players have really good freting skills but terrible picking technique. They move their whole arm when playing fast or don't understand when they should use solid down strokes vs alternate picking. The worst is when their fret-hand moves faster then their picking hand... that's just sloppy.

I'd strongly suggest lessons as there are some things that just can't be taught virtually. IE: Hand position. You can look at all the pictures you want but unless there's someone there to correct you when you fuck up, you probably won't do it yourself. And don't trick yourself into thinking you will... you wont, because it's naturally uncomfortable and sometimes downright painful when you start.

If those are out of the question start slow... learn scales and do a lot of fingering and picking exercises. You should learn songs as a last resort... if you get good at the basics and really understand how and why you do the things you do, you'll find that you can learn songs almost overnight.

If you teach yourself by learning songs, you'll be limited to what you know based on what songs you learned. If you only learn punk songs you'll never learn how to play blues scales or tripplets... things like that. But if you learn the basics, you'll know the scales and the techniques already, allowing you to apply them in song form with relative ease.

Actually, smoking pot isn't nearly as harmful to the body as you might think. I'm not a doctor so you'll have to forgive the juvinial terms here, but what I speak is the truth. Feel free to do your own research if you don't believe me.

First of all, marijuana smoke doesn't effect the lungs in the same way that tobacco smoke does. There are all kinds of passages in the lungs... tobacco smoke fills the bigger passages and leaves behind it's cancer causing residue. Marijuana smoke effects the smaller passages and no cancer has ever been linked to these smaller passages.

Cigarettes are also full of other, deadler products. They contain everything from Tar to Rat Posion... it's these things that cause cancer, it's these things that get you addicted. Marijuana is natural, thus... no cancer causing additives or poisons.

The natural posions that may grow in the plant can, and usually are, easily filtered out. Most people smoke pot through water pipes. Not only does the water cool the smoke, but it also acts as a filter that removes a lot of the bad shit that comes with smoking, while leaving the THC intact.

For those uncomfortable with smoking, there are still other methods to inject the THC without inahaling smoke. For instance, you can bake the marijuana into brownies, or drink some delicious pot-tea.

If that's not enough, the simple fact is that most people don't smoke nearly as much marijuana as they do tobacco. Not trying to downplay cigarettes here, but people have to smoke a lot of cigarettes over a long period of time to get cancer. People usually end up smoking 2 or 3 packs a day. I don't think I know anyone that smokes 24 joints to the face a day... usually it's one or two, and more often then not, they're shared with friends.

Also, marijuana has positive effects. It calms the nerves, opens the mind, releaves pain, and increases appitite. I smoke it for my anxiety... I consider marijuana a far better alternative then the chemically produced and addicting Xanex with all the doctors keep trying to put me on. It's cheaper, non addictive, and far safer... You can't OD on marijuana.

Not me... I hope it gets decriminalized so I can't go to jail for having, growing, buying, or smoking it... but I don't want it to be legal.

I'm under the impression that if it was legal, and cigarette companies started selling it to me, they'd cheat me. They'd find a way to give me less pot, that doesn't get me as high, at a higher price. Probably filled with all kinds of crazy poisions and shit for extra flavoring or to create an addicition.

Keep it illegal so it remains a street-wide product. But decriminalize it so we can all stop waisting our time hiding it from the law, and the law can stop waisting their time hunting it down. Everybody wins.

Trenor and Zeigler disciplined Riley by whipping her with a belt, pushing her head against a pillow and holding her head under water. She said Zeigler grabbed Riley and tossed her across the room, fracturing her skull.

She said the pair bought a plastic container, stuffed Riley's body inside and stored it in a shed for a month or two before setting it out to sea, prosecutors said.

Stickler portrayed Trenor as a scared 19-year-old girl who had moved to Texas from Ohio to marry a man she met while playing an online game

She's way too hot for me... seems like a lot of trouble constantly worrying about guys like you always trying to get in her pants when I'm not around. Seems like the type of girl that would spend 40 minutes in the bathroom doing her hair to go to the movies. Plus, she does movies so she'd be away a lot doing god knows what with god knows who... all of which whom are far more attractive then me and probably a lot funnier (IE: Dane Cook... fuck I hate that guy).

Plus, I don't think she's that good of an actress so her career will probably bomb out here soon and I don't want to have to deal with that. The denial, the crying on my shoulder, my lying about how good she is when the best job she can get is "Victem #3 in a bad horror film". Then we'll lose our money, I won't have a job to support us cause she was rich, we'll be homeless... I just don't see it working out.

Oh wait, that's all a lie. In fact the complete opposite is true. It happens, and you where a noob too so keep that in mind next time you meet a player that looks lost.

Response to: in order to refresh zelda Posted January 30th, 2009 in Video Games

It would be nice if they actually put a puzzel aspect back into the game.

You know, change up the type of items you get... come up with some new ideas for dungeons, create some new enemies, etc..

Taking pushable blocks out of giant holes in the floor that force you into the puzzles answer would be cool. As well as removing big targets and huge light up handels on everything you have to shoot or pull. The puzzles aren't puzzles... they're more like "Look for the big out of place object and touch it"

It would be nice if you had to actually think... like if you had to do dungeons out of order. For instance, I have to go to the desert temple and work my way to the chest to get the hookshot. Then go to the water temple and use the hookshot to lower the lake in hyrule to open up the entrance way into the underground cave dungon. That gives me a prize that I can use to finish off the desert temple... or something.

It's lame knowing that the prize you get in dungeon A is the item you have to use to pass obsticle A in dungeon A and also... it kills Boss A in dungeon A. It's not really a puzzle anymore, as it just boring and monotonous.

Changing the idea that you have to collect 3 things to trigger the story even that leads you to collect 6 things would be nice. Why not just start the game with the knowledge that you have to collect 9 things? Or better yet, why is it all about collection things? Why not just create reasons to have to do things... you get nothing from killing this boss other then the fact that you can now use this location as a gateway between two points... add a little variety to why I'm risking my life in a shithole dungeon.

Getting rid of the Shape-Shifting feature would be nice too. Also, we're done with the musical thing. We've reversed time, changed the wind, turned into a wolf, became a bush, yadda yadda yadda... can we go back to just being a kid with a sword again? I find all of this, change shape and play music shit to be very aggrivating. It adds little to the game.

Also, I'm kind of sick of the way Hyrul looks. Why is everything always kind of dead looking? Grass is never green, it's yellowish. Can we get some change in scenery? Advance the time a bit, add a few more towns... make the world seem like there's more to it then a castle, a lake, and a mountain?

Oh, and no more friends that hover around your head shouting at you and telling you the answer the puzzels before you get a chance to figure it out on your own. Lets go back to the use of a fortune teller if you need to buy a hint. That way hints are still available, but you have to go out of your way to get them.
