No, unfortunately I do have to rely on their telling of the events, so it could be very inaccurate, but if they did have proof of citizenship and they were alone, and they did get turned down as they say they did, then it's a problem, in my opinion.

So anyone who shows up to the embassy should be given a plane ticket to Canada?

They should at least be given some form of support, other than being blankly turned away. Even use of a phone to call someone to ask for some money to be wired over, would that be too much to ask?

No they shouldn't just start handing out plane tickets indesciminentally but they should at least offer something. From personal experience the Canadian embassies(at least in south america) are very helpful to people who are stranded abroad. Yes these are special circumstances in the Middle East, but they still shouldn't be turning people away.

I was on parliament hill today taking part in the protests, and I ran into 4 Canadian-Lebanese girls, no older then 16 who had just gotten off of a plane from Syria.

They were telling their story and as it goes, they fled to Syria from southern Lebanon by themselves after the bombing had begun. When they arrived in the capital they went to the Canadian embassy where they were told to find there own way back to Canada, and that it made no difference that they were minors, they embassy would not help them.

Our government is proving itself to be a disgrace at this point, Canadians should be able to count of their government to protect them.

If you don't want your animation critiqued then you shouldn't host it on a flash website that offers the option to critique work. Use a site like DeviantArt that lets you turn off the reviewing feature on your movies. Or just host the flash yourself.

No, that is not a good idea. That's like saying only people that film movies should be able to be film critics. Just because you have no artistic talent yourself doesn't mean you can't offer advice.

The government is going to use tax dollars to evacuate these people, if you don't pay into that tax fund, you don't get evacuated. Otherwise it would be like welfare, and I would sooner have my $500 in tax go to some little Lebanese child than some adult who willingly left Canada behind until they are in a time of need.

The problem is, a lot of the non-Canadian residents were Canadian residents while Lebanon was undergoing political turmoil, which lasted quite a long time. So at one point they did pay into our government's tax fund. Bringing up the question, if they payed taxes at one time, is that good enough, or do they have to be paying taxes when it happens.

That argument holds no validity, and it is becoming pretty annoying at this point. Explain why Israeli citizens and Lebonese citizens must die in equal numbers. You want to know how many American citizens versus Afganistan citizens died in the Afganistan war? Bleh... irrelevant to the Afganistan war, irrelevant in general and particularly in this case.

I don't think you saw the point to the arguement. I'm not saying people should die in equal numbers. In a perfect world then people wouldn't be dying in the first place. What I'm trying to get you to do is to look at the flip side of the coin, to take a look at the plight of the innocent Lebonese, just like you're asking the international community to look at the plight of the innocent Israelis. If the casualties were 9:1 in the other direction, how would you feel, that's all I'm asking you to think about.

Seriously, like no one is trying to justify what Hezbollah is doing, what a lot of us are saying though is that the sheer number of civilians killed is way out of proportion. I mean the UN High Commisioner for Human rights said:
"indiscriminate shelling of cities constitutes a foreseeable and unacceptable targeting of civilians … Similarly, the bombardment of sites with alleged military significance, but resulting invariably in the killing of innocent civilians, is unjustifiable. This obligation is also expressed in international criminal law, which defines war crimes and crimes against humanity. …The scale of the killings in the region, and their predictability, could engage the personal criminal responsibility of those involved, particularly those in a position of command and control."
We all just want this to stop, and yelling at us for saying that the situation has blown way out of proportion isn't helping anybody

Because telling them you're going to blow the crap out of them justifies your actions entirely. . You expect an entire population of people, to use a less than 24 hour window, to run to where exactly? Northern Lebanon? No you seem to be bombing up there too now. Syria? Oh wait you seem to have blown out the main highway there. And moreover you wonder why so many people hate your actions, maybe because they're tired of getting bombed and being given the "gift" of 24 hours advanced warning that their entire neighboorhood is going to be reduced to rubble.

In all fairness Sarai you can't really expect her to change her opinion all of a sudden. I mean when you grow up "knowing the truth about things"(This applies to every country, not just Israel) it's very hard to look at other opinions, and even harder to change them.

Topic: Evacuating Dual-Nationals

With Israel's attacks on Lebanon many Canadians(like everyone else) are attempting to flee the fighting. But when you look a the numbers there are an incredibly large number of Canadians(apx 50,000) requesting evacuation compared to many other countries(USA 25000, Italy 350, etc). This gives our government huge problems since it costs a lot of money to evacuate 50,000 people.

Now the debate has come forward that Canadians who just happened to be vacationing in Lebanon should be evacuated before dual-citizens. Another arguement has come forward that dual citizens who don't have a permanent residence in Canada shouldn't be evacuated at all since they are effectively Lebanese. The arguement used to counter this is "A Canadian, is a Canadian, is a Canadian" saying that holding a passport is reason enough for the government to help you out of the country.

Personally I think that anyone who holds a passport and wants out should be given passage by the government. I know this doesn't only apply to Canada, so I'm leaving it open to any other nationalities as well.

Ozcar, I'm going to give you the same advice I gave my best friend, not 20 minutes ago.

The best way to get out of depression is to look for the little good things that happen. When you have something you like to eat, when you hear something witty on the radio, when you see a guy getting hit in the crotch with a football. If you try to think of things like those when they happen it helps to keep ur mind off all that bad.
