Easily Identify Song Comments Posted February 24th, 2012 in Audio

Hello Audio Portal. There have been quite a few changes I see. I was curious if there is an easier way to identify when a song I posted has been commented on. Prior to the lay out change, I would click my account, list all audio and it would show all the comments (including new comments), favorites, etc. Now...I'm not quite sure how to, it appears I have to click through each song separately.

Any help or directions? Thank you.

Response to: Performing Rights Organ. (Legal ?) Posted December 17th, 2011 in Audio

Thanks Rampant. I guess that addresses my concern.

So Essentially they won't request people to take down youtube videos etc?

Do you know any disadvantages of belonging in a PRO? Thank you.

Performing Rights Organ. (Legal ?) Posted December 16th, 2011 in Audio

Hey Fellow Newground Musicians,

We're considering joining a Performing Rights Organization. BMI for physical recovery and Soundexchange for Internet Radio to be specific. Basically they get a two year blanket license to recover small fees from radio stations/bars etc that play Dreams from Gin songs. It's essentially a two year agreement. I already have something running with CDBaby that gives me a few cents a month for all the LASTfm Plays we get.

The main reason I want to join is not for the few nickels I'll get every month but because Jukeboxes in bars, like TouchTunes, partner with this Performing Rights Organizations. This way we'll get our tunes in the jukeboxes.

Here is my concern and question: Most of our material is released share-alike. I want to make sure the kids out there that use our material just for youtube videos or other non-commercial purposes don't get whacked by BMI requesting money from them. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Thanks. And if anyone has any experience with Performing Rights Organizations, I'd love to hear your it.

nevermind the fact that half these contestss ave forced competitors to work outside their comfort zone, to grow, collaborate and even involve the ngs staff in competition.

I agree, I like a challenge...

Doomtown Card Game On Octgn Posted July 10th, 2011 in General

DoomTown, the card game is now available to play free on OCTGN. Those of you who have played DoomTown know it as a Intelligent game that combines chess like strategy, town building, and poker draws to revolve shootouts. It takes place in unique Horror/SteamPunk/Wild West setting. (probably the most unique setting since Arcanum, imo). The story is pretty excellent as well, it changed and progressed with how tournaments were won. It won Two Orgins Award in 1998.

I threw together this trailer to demo playing it on OCTGN.

Thanks Don, I just figured a newgrounder could point me in the right direction so I didn't have to sift through some bad sound effects sites. Those sites give me a good start, Thanks again

Response to: Ng2011 Time Sig Contest Submission Posted May 14th, 2011 in Audio

Took us weeks to get the time signature changes down. It starts in 5/8, Choruses are in 5/8 and the verse is in 4/4, outro is in 6/8 but switches it up a little as well. Lyrics included. It turned out to be quite the epic. Enjoy!

Alesis Q49 Keyboard or bust Posted May 7th, 2011 in Audio

I'm considering buying it to use in Garageband for Midi. I'm normally a guitarist in a live band, and have limited piano ability, but will potentially be using it along with "real instrument" recordings in Garage band to add Organs, Synths, what have you.

Anywho, any reviews, advice or potentially better equipment in the same price range? Thanks Newgrounders.

Cover Copyright Concerns? Posted April 18th, 2011 in Audio

My band recently recorded and released a cover of a european band called "Hooverphonic." We don't plan on selling the cover and are essentially releasing it just for fun/promotion on Youtube and a few other mediums. The song sounds substantially different than the original recording but still uses the same Notes/Lyrics.

I have yet to make any contact with the band, do I have anything to fear? (The song is on youtube, it's embeded in my profile if anyone is interested.)
