Prince of Persia 3D
Prince of Persia: Harem Adventures

The first three games tell a different story about a different (?) Prince than the later Sands of Time trilogy. And I've never heard of the fourth. Possibly just a one-off side game, which means it hardly counts.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones
Prince of Persia: Revelations
Battles of Prince of Persia
Prince of Persia: Rival Swords
Prince of Persia Classic (Which might be the first one so it might the tenth instead of eleventh)

Revelations, Rival Swords, and Classic are all remakes, and Battles is a spin-off.

It's like if I called Super Mario Galaxy the 248th (or something) game in the series. You're confusing the word "franchise" with "series." Yes, the PoP franchise is currently on it's eleventh title. This Prince of Persia series is on its first installment, since it's a completely new story.

No, if they are willingly fighting in the war, it's because it's their fucking job to. When you have a job, do you get to pick and choose which assignments you want to do? No. That's like saying that I must support arbitrary busy work at school because I willingly do it to escape punishment.

No Worky = No Pay = Poverty. That's the reality of life. I'm sure that there are plenty of soldiers who don't support the war, and plenty who do. Regardless, they're American citizens who are risking their lives (as far as they're concerned) for us, so we should support them and hope that they get home in one piece.

Besides, you don't hate everyone who supports the war, do you?

Response to: Favorite new SC4 character? Posted June 11th, 2008 in Video Games

Darth Vader, obviously. Darth Vader automatically wins any competition he's entered in, with the exception of "Best Prequel Incarnation."

Yoda, my second-favorite new character is. As you can probably tell, I don't really care all that much for Soul Calibur. I had II on GameCube, which was pretty awesome, but I guess I never bothered to buy any others. I don't really see the point of one-on-one fighting games on consoles.

Response to: Any Good Mmofps? Posted June 11th, 2008 in Video Games

You all seem to be unaware of the definition of an FPS. Tabula Rasa isn't an FPS, it's an MMORPG with guns.

Anyway, The Agency looks pretty promising, and I feel like I read somewhere that Activision is planning a Call of Duty MMO. There's nothing out right now that I can think of.

I don't think I'll be playing any MMO's at all until Champions Online comes out in 2009.

Because if someone doesn't like Halo, they must be a crazy, irrational Sony fanboy who loves concentrated mediocrity and full-blown shit like Killzone and Haze, respectively. Your post also makes sense because it would be stupid to compare a game to anything but it's immediate surface-level competitor.

Shut up. For some reason, Halo lights a fanboy spark in you that completely doesn't exist in your more rational posts. And in my opinion, Halo's story has mild sparks of creativity amid a sea of sci-fi cliches. Also, Master Chief is a sad, sad cardboard cutout of a character, and I don't consider that to be opinion, to a certain degree. Anyone who thinks that he's a fully developed character needs to become just slightly more cultured.

But back on topic:

Nothing (er...very little) is impossible in the realm of filmmaking. They just aren't doing it right. Every video game movie so far has either drawn way too much or (more often) way too little from the source material. A middle ground is the only way to success. Plus, they've been picking the worst possible sources for adaptation. House of the Dead? Doom? Halo? These aren't the games that scream "cinematic" to me.

Anyways, it's actually one of personal life goals to prove your assertion wrong. Don't scoff: I'm rich and Jewish. Oh, and I might have a little talent, too, but who cares about that anymore? But eh, I'm getting ahead of myself...for now.

Response to: What do think about Wiiware? Posted June 10th, 2008 in Video Games

My interest in WiiWare currently hinges entirely on Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People. I have some faith that it'll turn to out all right, though. Like the XLA but with more waggling.

Response to: Should I start playing WoW? Posted June 10th, 2008 in Video Games

Try it for just a month first. These types of games aren't for everyone. And of course there's the whole "don't get addicted" thing, but I'll assume you're better than that.

Then again, by paying to play WoW, you're just going to further feed a beast that's destroying an entire genre. Er...maybe I'll go deeper into that another time, another thread...

Star Wars (according to fat fanboys at least)

I don't think it's dead. I think it's hibernating. The prequels were largely a misstep, but Episode III was kind of good, in my opinion. I think that the Star Wars film franchise is (or at least should be) taking a long break to reevaluate itself, but the license itself is bigger than ever, with the numerous TV shows, video games, etc.

Response to: Video game movies Posted June 9th, 2008 in Video Games

I'm actually not so sure that MGS would make a good movie. The games themselves are practically movies, so films would seem redundant to me. Also, the games are very highly stylized, and I think that it might be difficult for a new director and writer to effectively translate Kojima's unique vision to the big screen. Plus, you just know that everything's going to be oversimplified and dumbed down. That's Hollywood, unfortunately.

Response to: Best Superhero Movie Posted June 8th, 2008 in General

The first Superman movie will always be great. II was also good, but the studio heads decided to ax the original director, opting instead to make the movie completely ridiculous (flying plastic "S" logo? Come on).

Superman (flying): I've got you, miss.
Lois: You've got me? Who's got you?

Classic. They just don't write dialogue like that anymore.

Also, I had thought the superhero genre was starting to dive deep into the shitter with garbage like Ghost Rider and Catwoman and Spider-Man 3, but things are actually starting to look up now. Batman Begins was great, and I'm sure that The Dark Knight will be even greater. Iron Man was highly entertaining and really pleasantly surprised me by exceeding my somewhat low expectations. That after-the-credits scene with Samuel L. Jackson got me extremely pumped for a sequel/Avengers movie, and I don't even read the comics.

And in 2009, we get to see what happens when Zack Snyder's style meets Watchmen's substance. I get the feeling it'll fare better than 300, which was just a cool-looking novelty that I forgot about the day after I saw it.

Yeah, I never quite got why oil prices are going up. Isn't the only good thing about the war in Iraq that we're getting a shitload of oil? Shouldn't that make it cost less?

But wait, dont we already have car's like these? And if so, then why arent we using them?

Technically, they run on hydrogen, not water. And we're not using them because corporate interests run America. Actually, a few decades ago, a highly functional electric car (like a real car, not those little pussy things that are just glorified golf carts) was manufactured at GM, but the company abruptly destroyed all of them.

There's not nearly enough love for A Link to the Past on this thread. Also, on a slightly related note, screw all that "doesn't Death Mountain look almost...moon-like?" bullshit. The connections between TP and ALP are much more explicit. Both have sepia-toned darkness-themed worlds accessible by magical mirrors that turn Link into an animal. Why he turns into a bunny in one and a wolf in the other is up to your psychological/thematic evaluation.

Well, at least (if you count pack-ins), Super Mario Bros. is still the highest selling game of all time. So some people have (or had) some taste.

Also, to become even more depressed, just look at any of the NPD charts over the past several months and you'll see that Wii Play is always hovering near the top.

Also, TL;DR for this entire thread: casual gamers suck.

Anyway, I think you should check out a little band called Patent Pending. It's solid, generally light-hearted punkish music that's consistently been in my summer listening for the past few years. Also, if you feel like branching out a lot in terms of genre, I suggest Sloan or (when "relaxing" starts to slip into "naptime") the Morning Benders, among many other bands...

On an individual song basis, hmmm...the first couple of things that jump to my mind are "Australia" by the Shins, "Heavy Metal Drummer" by Wilco, "Drinking for Eleven" by Mad Caddies, and "A-Punk" by Vampire Weekend. Actually, VW is a great all-around summer band if you're into indie.

There's a lot more where that came from if you want it.

It looks promising, and it's one of the top games on my anticipation list, but we can't get our hopes up too much. We have to remember that Molyneux is infamous for making big promises he can't keep. Half the features he's talking about probably won't make it into the final build, just like with the first game.

Mooooving on:

The new prince does look cool. I even changed my profile picture into his picture. I hope the combat is like SoT, WoW, and TT. In SoT the combat felt like a movie, and you could absorb sand with the dagger. In Wow you could pick up weapons and throw them and there was blood. In TT you could do sneak attacks, although they felt like you could not do them whenever. I really hope the dialogue is
intelligent and the story is actually followable.

The combat is going to be almost nothing like the previous trilogy, except the fights are going to be even more cinematic. Now the series is going back to tense one-on-one duels instead of taking on ten guys at a time.

And while Ubisoft Montreal's (or any developer of period piece fantasy gaming, really) dialogue is pretty stilted and awkward at times, I think that they're very capable as storytellers. WW was just one small misstep.

Anyways, I didn't think that Warrior Within was a bad game at all. In fact, it was a pretty great game in my opinion. However, I agree that the story and characters were much worse in WW than they were in either SoT or TT. The prince did become an asshole, and an annoying one at that. And the music, good God, the horrible, horrible, ill-fitting music.

Luckily, this new Prince is starting over. Completely new character, doesn't seem to be an asshole, since this girl character is willing to follow him around everywhere.

Response to: Lucid Dream Discussion Posted June 7th, 2008 in General

I've tried plenty of times, but I can only remember two times I've ever actually done it, and both times it was sort of by accident and I didn't do anything significant. The big issue is paying attention. If you don't constantly remind yourself that you're dreaming, you'll get distracted and forget. That's what happened to me.

I was in class and noticed I had never seen the doodles in my notebook before (weird way of figuring it out), and I realized I was dreaming. My memory of the dream is kind of fuzzy, but I think I might have willed myself a taser that I shocked someone with on my way outside, so obviously at this point I was starting to lose my rational grip on the situation. By the time I was outside, I was considering trying to fly, but forgot whether or not it was a dream. I got worried that if it wasn't a dream and I tried and it didn't work, I'd look like a total dumbass, so I stood there and thought about it for a second. Then I woke up. Shit.
