Pretty much what Sequenced said, but work on music theory and all that jazz before progressing to the intricacies of mastering. Good/clever/mood-setting songwriting >>>> than production value and can never really be skipped without consequences - so brush up on that first.
You people have obviously never visited the MSPA forum.
Oh my god, Back to Purgatory is good. Insta-discouragement.
Regardless, here be stuff:
Chicago Summer Night
36 Seconds
Lush Through FX
And can somebody tell me how to make those fancy links now? :D I'm so clueless.
The statement is a lie.
The question is the truth.
Ponder this.
Dang, can't believe I missed this. Would of been such a great opportunity to just get "out there" and show off some - er - not-so-genre abiding material to the NG community along with all those other amazing choons on that flash.
Ah well, getting ahead of myself there. If you ever do do something like this again I"ll be sure to try out.
I'm sure its just there so stupid people don't spam shitty 2 second clips.

Whats wrong with ParagonX9? :D

Pretty much this. Germans are still hated on so much for that shit, but ah well. History, I guess.
I'd like to nominate both Computer112 and OrphenFire for great music in general and the ability to create tunes in a variety of genres. I respect the time and dedication they have spent learning the theory, something that I've found is both long and extremely arduous in terms of memorization, and their ability to actually play real instruments.

On topic: then the team will have to be picked by smart people, and the smart people who pick the team will have to be picked by smart people, and - *INCEPTION!*
I have to admit, and this is a bit embarrasing for me:
I've never actually used a VST before - so I've got no clue whatsoever of what an exciter is, does, or sounds like. However, it does sound rather practical, so I'll consider figuring out the complexity that is external VST-use eventually if its so paramount to achieving that sound. WOOOORK GALOOOORE!
Sushi is decent, not my favorite dish ever as it is a bit of a mood-based meal, but its good if you can stomach the odd feelin' in yer belly post-consumption.
About the submitting - who's judging this again? I might be interested in submitting one of my own tracks in the hope of spicing the genres up, but things depend on the personal taste and experience of the individuals who are actually rating and sifting through the best entries.
This needs to be decided and agreed upon prior to any actual submissions happening. A single person judging everything can't possibly be good, but irrational zero-bombing douches need to be avoided at all costs as well. I say we vote based on that peoples' musical experience and their general open-mindedness (meaning everyone but me, as I'm a bit of a stupid IDM elitist).

Two of my recent submissions got zero-bombed over three times each in the span of five hours. I think I'll try to take that as a compliment now.

Hey look, its VSnares!
Naw, he's freaking good. What impresses me is his ability to make that "derty" drum sound with the basic Amen break, something I just can't do without making my mix sound like absolute garbage. Good taste in orchestral samples, too.
Also: why is FL and the studio version so popular? I"ve never tried them before but there's loads of hype about 'em in nearly every forum I visit - and apparently every single song Homestuck ever released (spanning a vast array of genres) was crafted in one of the two.
Could someone enlighten me on its capabilities, pros and cons so that I may try it out myself eventually and know what I'm getting in to?

The site where its found, it's in Chinese. Just click the link that say "Download" on the homepage next to some Chinese characters.
Jus' saying due to my own initial confusion.

By ear. :D
No, there' an entire complaint forum regarding the recent compression problem within the past few months. I hear it in my own tracks as well - the highs are muddled and the lows ring like I don't know what. Best just to steer clear of it and, as you mentioned, try Bandcamp.
Regarding Soudcloud
Do not upload to this site if you're aiming for high fidelity. Soundcloud has recently formed a tendency to create LOTS of artifacts in formats that are less compressed than MP3 and will absolutely destroy some frequencies - particularly the very, very low ones - in a mix. I do not know when this started happening, but its relatively audible to the creator of the song and may turn some of the "audiophiles" off.
Even Newgrounds has better, if somewhat colored, fidelity IMO, so just scouring for music here is the better option - no doubt about it.
Wait, so how do you post songs the fancy way? I feel like the antithesis of tech-savvy right now.

are you asking that what are our experiences with trackers?? or is it something else?
sorry im kinda stupid in my english
Yeah, basically. I'm a horrible writer so I'm sorry that the overhead was incomprehensible.
since school law states anything newer than ten years is considered current
Wait, so does this mean the 90's mattered? That Aphex Twin and Squarepusher's musical styles are actually topics of study right now in certain places?
I love the U.S. right now. So, so very much.
I have not-quite-so-recently come in possession of my first tracker (and second music making software ever) - Renoise, a program that a good friend of mine had suggested for making glitchy, very fast-paced electronic songs a while back.
I've tried using this program for over a year now and am still genuinely boggled by all it's capabilities and features, so here I am now asking about what your NG members' experiences have been regarding this type of DAW or if you've ever even heard of this type of software before.
If you have no clue what the heck I'm even talking about there's a couple free demo versions of this software on the web to try out and see if you like it. I know I didn't at first, but it really grew on me eventually and is now my DAW of choice for digital compositions.
Oh yeah, and first pwnst on forums. Huzzah.
