The term Springfield doesn't have anything to do with the manufacturer of the weapon. It's the name of the cartridge, i.e. 30-30 Winchester, .270 Winchester, .280 Remington, .416 Rigby, ,444 Marlin, all of these are chambered in rifles made by several different manufactures. Another example would be a Glock chambered in .40 Smith&Wesson.

I don't really know about guns that much but I can tell you that both are the same muzzle velocity because 30-06 is made off of the .270 even though the .270 is a lighter bullet=bit faster, their basicly the same. So tell your friend their both the same. If he asks why, use the facts I posted.
