While not an official beta test or anything, but i wouldn't mind knowing how well it generally runs. Shooting for a frame rate of over 30 at least. Cheers.

First off...this is really very cool, and it has a ton of potential to be a great addictive game. there are bugs galore in it currently, which I'm sure you are more than aware of. I was able to jump vertically through a very large wall, and then fell promptly to my death. Don't stop making it perfect. :3

Posted: 11/20/09 05:31 PM

While Billy is completely correct in citing acceptable uses for decompilers, I will add one more to the list. Your client, who has paid for the creation of a Flash movie, has had their fla files hijacked by their design firm. If I had a nickel for every time someone steps to me with swfs and no flas, I'd be a rich SOB.

I had a thought though , what if your house gets its on OS/development platform and you could make apps for it, that would be interesting.

I'm just dying to hack someone's house. Y'know...burn their crumpets, expose their porn/sex toy collection at inappropriate times, incinerate their mail, watch them poop and put it on youTube, etc.

Yeah...the future is so bright, I gotta wear nightvision goggles.

This isn't as useful I think in AS2 because of duplicateMovieClip,
Classes are much better to use than duplicateMovieClip, and that is the reason it is not in AS3.

You actually can make custom classes in AS 2.0. Yes, they do exist. But, it was kind of a trial run for the organization of AS 3.0. It's much easier, and better organized, in CS3 & CS4.

It's boss hog. Believe.

Still, since the lounge is heavily populated by our friends in the UK, I would like to ask them, specifically, what they think of AMC's new 're-imagining' of 'The Prisoner'.

I despise it, though I absolve Sir Ian McKellen of all wrongdoing. I think he's the shit. It's like they really never watched the old series at all, and that is their loss.

Also...Palm Pre needs to die for using 'Doot Doot' by Freur to slang celly tellys. You bitches should be ashamed.

import your .avi. A wizard will open. Use it to select quality, cue points, cropping and trimming, and choose the embed option. This will embed the resulting .flv directly into your .swf. Usually I stream it externally for web projects, but for NG, I always choose embed, and pray that it's not over 10 Mb. :)

Everytime I get pleased, they change everything.

What where you interested in when you got it , programming or animation , what are you prominent in at the moment ?

when I started it was strictly visual. Now it's more codeish. Flash 5 was pretty limited compared to what CS4 can do.

a couple of collabs, but the big project is "Mobile Stereotype Suit G Gundam". It won't be done for some time. I'm being real picky so the fbf purists don't get butthurt, and feel compelled to bless me with their infinite propensity for "zero reviews". Nothing says, "Job well done", like a bunch of zeroes from people who've never created anything in their whole life. Ooo snaps.

What I've been learning on this project:

1. No laziness. None.
2. Rework the script constantly.
3. Deadline does not apply to this project.
4. Use voice actors on NG, otherwise they'll feel butthurt.

I have another super secret ongoing thing, that's so inflammatory, I might have someone else release it.

Topic: Why isnt this script working?

Posted: 11/06/09 05:58 PM

Forum: Flash

Just so we're clear, you have this script on a movieClip, right? Not a frame. There should be a frame in an actions layer with a stop(); command. As for the screwy world of AS 2.0 scenes, try renaming them and be sure everything is case sensitive. I've had more than my fair pile of issues with stuff exactly like this...

When I last had this problem, the solution was to send the playhead to a blank keyframe in the same scene. Then the blank frame had the gotoAndPlay("Scene 2", 1); script on it. It worked. give it a try. PM if you need to.

If I may ask, is it important that your menu be 3 frames long? Why not one frame, with 3 buttons on it, and some functions in an action layer? This method will definitely stop your sound from overlapping.

Topic: Career in flash ?

Posted: 11/03/09 11:05 AM

Forum: Flash

As you've already mentioned that you're not intending to bounce out school, I'll just shut up about the pros and cons of that. You've already made the right choice on that one.

The career thing can be as lucrative as you want to make it. I'll be real though...1 in 80 jobs you do for clients will actually be as fun as something you make for NG, on your own time. Most of the people with the money are interested in slideshows of handshakes, compasses, chess pieces, and other smarmy business memes. Sad, but true. Also, startups are a little more scarce these days than they used to be. Thank the economy for that one.

My advice, in a nutshell, is to carefully pick the Flash job you want. If you don't, Tad and Biff will headhunt you, and you'll make be making XML galleries of their sleepy powerpoint presentations forever. May the force Bwith U.

@ Duchednier

Does anybody have any random ideas that they can throw out, i mean even something simple like

"boy gets beaten up so he decides to train and beat the bully up"

Let's take your quick idea and just rearrange some words:

"boy gets screwed over by a bully train, so he decides to train, and beat the train bully up"

I would love to watch someone kick the ever-loving hell out of a train (especially a scheming train that closes the doors to soon, is always running late, etc.)

@JKA - I feel your pain. That Disney thing was crashing my shit regularly toward the end, and it has gobs of memory. The V-Cam issue is a targeting issue. Most V-cam scripts explicitly define _root as the target. Using _parent instead, and stashing everything in a single movieClip usually makes V-cam problems disappear.

I can't tell you how many times I said, "Jesus... if only everyone was a pimp like Osuka". His shit was named correctly, sized correctly, organized, and had a CS3 and 8 version ready to go. Copy. Paste. Done.

AS2 doesnt support inverse kinematics or 3d rotation, wich you could use for animation (altough I don't use them)

This is not true. Both of these are doable in AS 2.0, but it's not easy, and hardly necessary for a DVD style menu. Brush up on release functions and well labeled scenes or frames, and you should be in business

The good news: Yes there is.

The bad news: We don't know what version of flash you're using. We don't know if you're working with lots of sequential pictures or a video asset. If you divulge these secrets, we can give you a way more accurate answer. :)
