We're around...or at least I am. Heh heh. I've just been waiting for an update since the crash while working my ass off on school work, especially an eight page analytical paper on Uncle Tom's Cabin. But now that I have finished that monstrosity I have been able to get more work done on Part 18.

I only have to fix a few things and animate a background. Then it is done and I can start on Part 31(if it's still free).

Part 18 90% Done

Hope everyone else is having good luck with their parts.

Updated Part 18!

It is almost finished. I finished the hand animation yesterday and drew a few more keyframes, including the final one. I still have to make some transitional animation between the frames as well as a background animation so I can change the line colors from gray to black. I should be able to finish it in a few days time.

Nice job to everyone else. The parts are looking great.

I will take Part 31 if possible.

I've seen Jazza's tutorials before. I was actually very glad I found them after watching his movies. I've adopted his construct idea in my animation, and it helps a lot when drawing anything, from simple poses to more complicated poses, such as fight animations. Sometimes I roughly animate a movement in the construct and then animate over it with finer detail.

Thanks for the props to my part by the way. Your parts look awesome too, and your new movie rocked.

WIP for Part 18.

I'm trying to animate a little bit everyday during finals week. This is what I was able to get done before study time.

I realize the hands look horrible. I suck at drawing hands. But thanks to this tutorial I just found I will be re-drawing them the next time I work on the part.

If it is possible I would also like to try my hands at Part 31, the final part open for this collab. I have a good idea I would like to try out for it.

On a serious note, I actually like the concept. Different than mine obviously, but I do like it. Good luck with it. May the best animator win. =P

I guess that means I'm going to have to work extra hard on Part 18.

Response to: "Prayer" by Disturbed - Collab! Posted January 11th, 2009 in Game Development

Forget what I said about removing the outlines. I got the opinion of my girlfriend and she thought the no line style looked cool, but not serious enough for this type of movie. So I'm keeping the outlines and will add background animation when I'm done with the character animation.

I'm saving the no outline style for my next movie, which is not serious in the slightest.

Response to: "Prayer" by Disturbed - Collab! Posted January 11th, 2009 in Game Development

Add a background so the outlines of the characters can be a different colour than that gray. Other than that, it's great. I love the concept.

I was actually planning on taking out all the lines when I was finished animating it. Sort of like the picture below and keeping the background black. However I'll add a background if you really want one. No problem there.

Response to: so i saw spirit Posted December 28th, 2008 in General

I actually enjoyed The Spirit. I just saw it tonight with my friends and girlfriend(funny we were both wearing NG Shirts we got for Christmas). We laughed the whole movie, or admired the many beautiful women including Eva Mendez's hot ass. DAYAMN!!! was uttered many times throughout this movie. When is she gonna get naked?

Um....back on subject now...um..OH that's right..the movie.

I liked the Sin City to it. It gave it some style, even if it wasn't original to the movie. The acting was fairly good in my opinion given some of the lines and the plot, which at some times was corny and over the top weird. Gabriel Macht(The Spirit) was especially guilt of this, but most of the time he created a good character.

There were moments during the film where I thought it was trying to take itself way too seriously. Whenever Spirit monolouged(sp?) I just wanted it to be toned down. Ruined some moments for me. These moments aren't a movie killer though, so sit tight through them if you view the movie.

What I really liked was the many allusions to Greek Mythology throughout the entire film. In fact, the main plot revolves around items of Greek myth. Anybody who knows anything about Greek Mythology will be able to predict some parts of the film, but it makes it way more enjoyable.

Overall I would definitely see this movie in theatres. At times it's a little over-the-top and bad, but it saves itself before and after those moments.

7.5 / 10

Response to: Merry Christmas! Posted December 25th, 2008 in NG News

Merry Christmas Tom and the whole Newgrounds staff!

My girlfriend gave me a book full of physics stuff, a poem she wrote herself(beautiful), a Newgrounds shirt, and some NG stickers.

Family and friends gave me three programming books(one C, two C++), Rock Band 2(the game, not the set), The Dark Knight, some clothes, and a gift card.

My grandma also fell down, hit her head, and went to the hospital on Christmas Eve, so sadly we opened gifts without her. Thankfully she's alright, but she's there until Friday for some tests. We were all scared as shit when she fell, as she hit her head pretty damn hard, but she was still conscience, could look everyone in the eye, and was able to feel her body, which made everyone feel a little bit better.
We're going to go visit her in a few minutes to see her. We're glad she's fine, we just wish she could have been here for us.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!!!

Look on the previous page for the list of free parts. Look on the first page for a link to download all the parts of the song. They're only five to six second clips. Not very long at all, but still long enough to make them creative.

I was just waiting for confirmation about my part before I started working on it. Im going to try to have some concept work done by the end of the week. School is taking a lot out of me right now.

Response to: Wacom 13: FleckoGold Posted December 3rd, 2008 in NG News

Congrats to FleckoGold. I loved his Aladdin movie and can't wait to see more of his work.

I also love the update to the search bar, though there are a few minor things I want to suggest to make it extra extra sweet.

1. It's a little slow showing the results sometimes, but that could just be my computer so ignore this one if it's only from me.

2. You can't scroll down the submissions right from the input box. I know it's not too much to ask for users to use the mouse to click on their submissions. God forbid any exercise on the internet. But Im just pointing it out because reaching for the mouse ruins the flow of searching if you catch my drift.

But I still love it.

Response to: "Prayer" by Disturbed - Collab! Posted December 1st, 2008 in Game Development

Wow. I love the menu. Can't wait to add my bio and pic to it.

Two questions though.

1. Do I still have part 18 as requested? I didn't see it on the updated list. Just checking if I still have it.

2. How are co-authors working? Are you choosing it based on skill, voting, number of parts, or just random? Just curious.

Also, I'll have some shots or at least a preview of my part soon(if I still have it at least).

Response to: Wacom 11: YungJazz Posted December 1st, 2008 in NG News

That's my boy!!!! Kick ass man. I can't wait to see what he puts out with the tablet.

I've seen him work with his mouse and he's amazing. Blows my mind. He used my tablet before and it was quite good once he got used to it. I know he'll put out some amazing work with his new toy.

Woah..found the pic that he drew when he used my tablet.

Now keep in mind this is about a year or more old and was a rough sketch using a new tool.
Now with that in mind, imagine what he'll put out when he's got some good practice in.

Can't wait YungJazz!!! Congrats again.

Response to: Driving age - 17 1/2 Posted September 10th, 2008 in General

Extremely mixed feelings on this topic.

I live in Michigan. Here we have a graduated license thing where training can start as early as 14 and 8 or 10 months, but testing for a license can not be done until 16 with so many requirements. You must take a three week class, have I believe now over six hours of driving time and a few hours of observation time with an instructor. Then you have to gain 50 hours of driving time, ten of which at night. Then you take another three day course called segment two and only then can you test for your license at 16. If you pass you get a year of a Level 2 license with night driving restrictions and some law about if you get ANY points on your license you lose it or something. The penalities were harsh is all I can remember. Once your 17 with a clean record you are automatically given a level 3 license, a full adult license.

As you can see in the wall of text above me, it's a large process aimed at giving teens the maximum amount of practice time with their parents before letting them off into the open road. Im 17 now and went through the system. Passed everything and when I finally got behind the wheel alone for the first time I was not afraid. I had enough experience to keep me alive on the road. Was I the most experience driver on the road? Hell no. I made mistakes. Everyone does. From teens to seniors. But the experience gained in the class and the experience gained, and still gaining, from being on my own is making me one better driver.

For example I was pulled over once, a few weeks after I got my level 2 license for making an improper left turn in a crazy college town intersection. Technically it was legal, but not safe because of how the lanes were developed. I wasn't given an ticket, but the experience taught me to be more careful at weird intersections, or in East Lansing all together.

Now just because Im a cautious driver doesn't mean everyone is. I've seen 16 year olds on all sides of the spectrum. Some who drive like the instructor is next to them, and some who drive like a stuntman in the movies for laughs, even though everyone is scarred shitless and telling them they are a fucking moron.

My thoughts? I can understand their reasoning for raising the driving age, but I still don't agree with it. Experience is what makes a good driver great. Not age. Experience. The oldest and wisest person could be the worst driver if it was their first time, just like how an irresponsible teenager can be a safe driver because he had to drive for 50+ hours with his mommy.

A better solution than raising the age is to make stricter graduated license requirements. More hours driving with an instructor, more hours with a parent, different hours in different driving conditions. Something geared at giving experience and not thinking age solves all problems. Does this mean more people will fake it? Yes. Does this mean student and parent alike will lie about how many hours to get it faster? Yes. Does this mean parents will still give their child a license with all their hours and shit even if they are the worse driver on the planet. Yes.

No system is ever full proof. There will always be idiots ruining it for everyone, but most teens I see are good enough drivers to survive on the roads.

Don't change the age. Allow more development time for experience.

Response to: Interview at Meijers Posted August 28th, 2008 in General

Be as polite as you can and answer all questions as honestly as possible.

Try to think of weird stories of your accomplishments, failures, mentors, and challenges as well. Most likely they will ask you a few questions about "How you were able to work on a team?" or "What was the most challenging part of (x)?"
If you can't think of any stories just make something reasonable up based on an event in your life.

Good luck with the interview.

Response to: (High) School Tardy Policies. Posted August 28th, 2008 in General

I must say that is a very crappy tardy policy.

Getting to school on time is important though, just because it supposedly sets the mindset of being on time for a job or anything. Few people will ever have perfect attendance which is why a few cushion tardies aren't a bad idea. Just show up late, get the work done, and don't do it again.

Your school's policy does make it seem they want nothing to do with you. It needs to be changed. My highschool's policy as of last year, which now looks tame compared to yours, was you could be up to twenty minutes late to a class before it was counted as an absense, even if you showed up. You were given three free tardies. After that you simply recieved detention as a punishment for each tardy you had.

That is a fair policy, not the crap you have. If there's any way you can try to change it than I suggest doing it.

In the meantime, be on time for class.
