Wow. Nice with the 3D work. I can't wait to see the finished product.

And awesome on the collab spot. Thank you very much for the honor. It means a lot to me.

Response to: 2010 Calendar in Store! Posted October 8th, 2009 in NG News

Damn, those calendars look nice!!! I'll be sure to pick one up next month. I'm a little strapped for money this month...so I hope there will be one for me next month.

I used "month" too much in this post...

I'm with you. This collab was extremely fun to participate in. I'd definitely do another one in a similar style. It was also great to practice new or different techniques since you were working on so short of parts.

To ShortMonkey: If you ever decide to make another collab like this, PM me. I'd be glad to join.

Also....a quick question. Who's getting co-authored? It doesn't matter to me who gets it, but I'm just curious. :)

Response to: "Prayer" by Disturbed - Collab! Posted October 1st, 2009 in Game Development

So if the majority of the animation is done, what about the rest of the collab stuff? Such as bios and other random collab parts such as that? How's the status on those? Are we really almost done with this thing after over a year of work?

Shortmonkey: Can the next update be a complete one? Such as an update on EVERYTHING collab related, from completed parts to the script that makes the replay button????

I'm really excited for this thing to be finished. It makes me all giddy inside.

Yes...I just used the word giddy....sue me
Response to: Drawing Tablets Posted September 28th, 2009 in General

A Wacom Bamboo tablet is great if you're just starting out. It has a great feel to it and can seriously improve your digital artwork. I have one and it's great. I'd recommend the medium size. It costs more, but the extra space makes it worth it.

I'd try to buy off Amazon though. I got a great deal on mine.

PART 3 DONE

Or at least I hope it is done. Let me know if there is anything you want fixed, changed, added, etc.

Where is everyone? Did this thing die?

Response to: Commercials? Posted September 25th, 2009 in General

I don't like the commercials at all. To tell you the truth I thought my laptop had a virus when I heard them. I never expected Newgrounds to get commercials. Hopefully they won't last long, if they last at all.

However, I do understand that Newgrounds needs to make money in order to survive. If commercials are another way to do this than so be it. It sucks, but so be it. That's why we should all buy from the store more often. Seriously....once I get my credit card in two weeks I'm going to buy something every month.

So if you don't like the commercials, buy more shit from the store, stop using ad-blocker, and click on an ad once in a while.

Happy Madness Day everyone.

Sad to see this thread is a little dead lately. Any part updates we could feast our eyes on? Any idea when this is coming out? I really can't wait to see it.

HOLY SHIT!!! That is brutal! I can't wait to see the finished product. I would make the background really creepy, especially on the face-exploding part.

Response to: dont ask me collab... again Posted September 8th, 2009 in Game Development

My part is coming along fine. I still have a lot to do, and college isn't going to make that any easier. I moved in to U of M last Wednesday and classes started today, but I will have it done by the 30th or earlier. I made a goal so I will post it here sometime then.

What about everyone else?

Part 3 WIP

There are still a couple of things I need to touch up on, but that is the final animation for my part. Obviously it still needs to be colored but I wanted to post this WIP so mr-womble might approve of it.

Response to: dont ask me collab... again Posted August 25th, 2009 in Game Development

Hello everyone! I just wanted to let everyone know that I am not dead, but I have not been able to work lately since my tablet died after four great years of service. A new one is on its way here and I will be able to start working by Wednesday. Once I have the primary animation done I will show everyone a WIP.

I actually had no idea we had one (or that they existed) until my girlfriend took me to one. Just search around your area and you might be able to find one nearby, especially if you have a big college around you. The on in East Lansing is right next to Michigan State University and there's one on the University of Michigan's campus in Ann Arbor. I'm going to check that one out when I move in.

Response to: Cigarette's or Hookah? Posted August 22nd, 2009 in General

I love smoking out of a hookah once in a while. It is a calm, relaxing, and social activity that I do with my friends once in a while and it is a blast. It is one of the healthier things to smoke and not addicting if done in moderation (as all things in life should be). I usually go with my girlfriend or a couple of friends to a hookah lounge and we spend a couple hours smoking, eating, and drinking. Very chill and very relaxing.

The fight scene animation is kick ass. Great fbf action and great camera work! It's sweet to watch and makes both characters feel badass! It really is awesome!

The only thing that nags me for some reason is the last pose the elf character makes. It doesn't feel like an ending pose to me, but more like a middle of the fight resting pose. Maybe you could add something in the background, like a blurred out dead body, to show that it is the end. You could also make the character breathe heavily to show how tired he is. Or better yet, have him start in that pose and as the camera pans, have him move his arms to his sides to show the battle is indeed over, so there is no need to guard himself.

Again, that part just nags me for some reason. Everything else is sick though! It is an awesome part!!! 5/5 9.6/10

If possible I would like to participate in this collab. I have an old submission on my old account but that does not reflect my current animation abilities in the slightest. I've recently made three parts for the Disturbed Collab and I'll post them below for your consideration.

Part 18
Part 20
Part 31

I also have three images posted in the art portal if that will help at all.

Do you have some software to control your audio in-/output?

Audacity does not detect it, only the internal webcam microphone. I disabled that and tried every setting and nothing from the program. Sound Recorder (the one on the machine already) doesn't work as well. The machine itself doesn't detect this microphone early...it's weird...

Microphone Help Posted July 29th, 2009 in General

I recently bought a Logitech Microphone for the low low price $10. Don't question the price, it was a bargain, and I was simply testing the mic for my friend. The microphone plugs into your computer via the microphone jack and it doesn't work. Plain and simple it doesn't work. My laptop (a Toshiba Satellite A305) does not recognize the microphone even exists.

Thinking it might be the jack I plugged in my friends microphone, also a Logitech and three years older than mine. His picks up perfectly so we think it might be the microphone itself. We plug it into his laptop, an Acer, and it works fine. At this point we turn to google.

Google gives us nothing. The official Logitech website gives us nothing either. In fact we can't find the product on the website...which is odd to say the least.

So I ask Newgrounds; any ideas why my microphone is not working? I'll accept anything.

Thanks in advance.

I think SM still needs my comment for the collab. Who else needs to send comments?

On a side note.. i'm working on two flash animations of my own. Both are nearly complete.

I really wish I could produce flash as fast as you could....*pout*

Maybe in the next update ShortMonkey could post what parts he still needs, what comments he still needs, and basically everything still needed. Hopefully everyone could get caught up after that.

The initial shot looks fantastic! The color choice really gives it an intense mood. In comparison, your human artwork could use some work. Once the camera zooms in on the cockpit the intensity (and any potential intensity of the scene) is lost. However I truly believe it is simply a polishing issue and once you do that everything will be as sweet as you're promising us in that initial shot. So basically...who's worried????

Good luck with the rest of it.

I also agree with this point. I only use them for slight blurs or "color tweening."

Rule of Thumb: Use them to jazz up a submission, not "make" the submission, if that makes any sense.

When I turned 18 all I did was buy a few cheap cigars for the hell of it. I regretted it. They're cheap for a reason. Now expensive cigars like my dad gets, those are awesome!

But that is pretty much it. Here in the states 18 is how the government teases you.

Response to: Long Reviews = Useless? Posted July 15th, 2009 in General

The helpful vs useless system has been broken for a while. Almost all of my reviews are long and I try to give the author good feedback on what was good and what was bad. In the past, I would say 90% of my reviews were marked helpful for this reason, regardless of the score. My recent reviews were marked useless and I have not changed my review style at all.

I PMed Tom today while I was at work thinking about an enhanced review system. I came up with an idea that gives the author of a submission more influence over the status of reviews on their submissions. Reviews are supposed to be feedback for the author. Each review would say something like:

"This review was XYZ for the author and/but XYZ for the community"

Tom actually agreed with this idea and he put it on the grand list of improvements for Newgrounds.
Someday these review problems could be fixed. I sure hope they will be soon.

Animating with Friends Posted July 15th, 2009 in Game Development

Over the past few weeks YungJazz and I have been meeting up in my basement to work on our animations together. We started it out trying to make a short movie to submit to the portal and although that idea failed it was amazingly fun to work together. Our morale and productivity was greatly benefited by just working with each other instead of just talking about things. There are more details in this news post I just made but I wanted to make this thread as well to see what the rest of Newgrounds thinks.

So Newgrounders...do you prefer to work(animate, draw, program, etc) alone or with friends and why?

Response to: The computer vs parents... Posted July 13th, 2009 in General

Roughly 10-12 hours.

6-8 hours at work: Surfing the web, writing emails, various other work related things
remainder of time is working on flash or playing games.
