I like the concept and style, and as a rough draft it is very good. The design is clean and gets the job done, but as said before, their are many subtle things that take away from the finished product.
A few quick things I would suggest improving on.
- Instead of a straight line dividing the two orange rectangles, give it a subtle curve and blur it a bit so they fade into each other.
- As already said before, a soft gradient on the larger orange rectangle.
- Give the shadow effect on the title a blur to make it look more like a shadow.
- The text in front of the stars should have a more defined stroke on it. Right now it is hard to read and doesn't stand out. You could also make the text similar in style to the title.
- Put a shadow or some sort of effect on the stars to make them stand out more.
Again though, I like it! I'd probably give it now lower than a C+ because the ideas are great but no higher than a B. I guess it depends on how everyone else in the class did.
Ross comes out of fucking nowhere and rules the site!
Sorry dude, you should have studied harder. He must not have thought you tried. Yah, it sucks, I feel for you, but the same shit happened to me before. Study hard and end up with C's and shit. Just get over it and study harder next time. My marks made it so that I will never get into my university's engineering school, but nothing I can do about.
Oh, and stop being a prick to everyone. Before you call me an idiot for saying this, I do go to college. I go to the University of Michigan. Quit being a prick, studying is necessary no matter where you are, no matter what power the teachers have. It is in their discretion to use it.
I graduated last year and there are certain things I miss. I don't miss any of the social drama or academic work because it was a joke. However I do miss certain clubs.
I was hugely active in theatre and marching band, and those are the ones I miss. Though I don't miss the work required to be in marching band, it was nice being in a group of talented musicians. It's hard to find in college if you're in a dorm full of engineers (groan). Theatre was fun because I learned a lot, and I miss the late nights of working on a set before a show. I miss it more so now because they've expanded certain aspects and it would have been nice to be there when these changes have occurred. I also miss hanging out with my highschool buds doing fun and stupid shit.
However as many users said, college is far superior in every way than highschool. You make frienships, some better, some worse, you have WAY more freedom, there are way more opportunities to have fun and expand who you are, and life is just better. So would I go back to highschool if I had the chance? I can say for certain the answer is no. College is just better. You'll always miss certain things but the key is to create new and better memories in college. It is the last time you can really have all the privileges of being an adult without all the responsibilities.

I did not like Catcher at all and it was for this exact reason. I can see why people liked the book when it was written and how it applied to man people's lives, and I can also see why some people could like this book in modern society, but I just couldn't get past hating Holden. I suppose times have changed though.
I suppose the problem for me was because most of the teenagers in my high school did not go through these problems. Most were spoiled brats who had nothing to bitch about except for how mean their parents were for not buying them the newest version of the iPod. I never saw anyone struggle with finding themselves so it never hit home with me. While I agree that many teens go through what Holden did, about finding themselves, growing up, etc etc etc...it was just hard to like a character who was such a dick.
It also didn't help that my AP English teacher treated this book like the Bible to all teenagers in th world. If you even hinted at disagreeing with her she would grade you down on your next paper. That didn't help my opinion of the book at all.
You lucky fuck, but not because you got to fart in someone's pussy, but because you GOT SEX AFTER IT!!!!
I do that and I LOSE sex...I don't even get kissed anymore....

Sorry for double posting
I storyboard and thumbnail for larger movies. I do the storyboarding in a format VERY similar to the OP's template, though I do thumbnailing within flash. I sketch out the animations and camera angles on a layer, more keyframes for more complicated movements. Both techniques are VERY helpful for organization and pre-production and I recommend anyone at least try them.
Here's" an example of my thumbnailing. It's the later part of this WMP...which I hope to re-make this summer with more visual flair.

1) : Doesn't that get complicated? How do you manage all that. I try to use graphics and movieclips in my works or just for practice, but the micromanagment seems like hell. I also found that my sound gets off since if I don't animate on anything but the main timeline. For example, my most recent solo flash has some major sync issues at the end. How do you get those to work with all the layers? In other words, where do you put your voice layers?
2) : Everywhere I look I see that many people recommend buying The Animator's Survival Kit. Do you recommend buying any books or just practice like no other, especially if this is just my hobby, though I do love it none the less.

Though they had advanced technology, they had very little of it. Sure, they had enough to revolt against the security firm if they had wanted to, but against any military forces from almost any nation, they'd get their ass kicked. They had one sweet robot and a couple dozen guns. We'd still have the larger military force and means to kill them. One large air strike would be enough to wipe their colony out.
A scene that illustrates this point is when the missile launcher from the SAM shot down the spacecraft. It may be advanced, but we can still destroy it.
It would be similar to someone walking into a police station with an AK-47. Sure, you may kill dozens of cops in the initial confrontation, but eventually they'll come out with the big guns and training and kill you.
I loved the movie and am shocked these are your concerns when they are all clearly addressed, either directly or indirectly.
I mainly use FbF because it has WAY more freedom than tweening, but I do use it for simple things, such as moving a character after FbF-ing a walking cycle or something. Usually tweening works when its used on things that appear to be tweened in nature, such as a car, spaceship, airplane, or something similar. Mainly mechanical things when you're looking for a mechanical feel.

That's actually a damn good idea. I'm going to practice that for...something.
I've tried out Wave and I really like it. No, it hasn't replaced my email client or chatting programs (all through Google strangely) but it can be very very useful for collaboration on projects and such. For instance, I think it would work great for university students in a lecture if everyone opened a wave and took notes, then combined them later into one document. I've tried to get some of my friends to use it to create a group of artists and shit to make stuff, basically a way to have more organization within a crew. A place to post ideas and keep people updated on the status of things. Programming projects would be great with stuff like this.
The hardest part to get Wave more mainstream is to get people to actually use it. People are used to their email and current ways of doing things. Learning how to use Wave not only seems scary to some, but an unnecessary use of time, and for some people it would be.
Wave needs some more work. This open beta was a risk for Google, but I think it will pay off in the end. Once they work on it for a few more months I think people will start finding ways to use it. Maybe not exclusively and dump their email accounts and such, but they'll start making conscious decisions about when to use something like Wave or Google Docs.
Bamboo is my second tablet and it is really good for its price. It definitely helps for making good art in photoshop and clean fbf in Flash, so I'd say it was a good buy. Just keep practicing with it to make good stuff. They do take some getting used to at first but after a few hours you'll be fine.
Enjoy it!

3: Better way to get to pages. For example, Icon helpers, dumping grounds, and all the pages that you have to type into the browser. A site map or tree or something.
4: More official contests everywhere. Imagine a page where there is always a contest going on, whether for cash prizes or featured somewhere.
Thanks for taking the time to respond at this.
You're welcome!

n00b mistake...
My desk in my dorm room. A little messy, but WAY better than my desk at home. Plus I can stare at my Newgrounds posters.
Congrats to PBass and Luis!!!
One beer
Roughly three glasses of wine
Three mixes of Sweat Tea Burnett's and Lemonade (in other words, an alcoholic Arnold Palmer)
One mix of Vodka Cranberry
And I smoked hookah.
It was good. I was a nice level of drunk most of the night. :)
Oh...this was New Years Eve btw.
I've had :
Original
Pink Lemonade
Raspberry Lemonade
Cranberry Lemonade
Limeade
Pomegranate Lemondate
Light (boo)
I like them all, though the Pomegranate is the best. Rule of thumb for me is to stay with the red colored ones, they are delicious.
I don't drink them to get drunk though, but they're a good drink for social drinking when you want something with more taste than a beer but you're too lazy to mix something.
I'd get a variety pack (yes, they sell them) and try them. I think you'll get all the flavors I listed above.
Obligatory be safe, be responsible, & have fun!

Congrats to dommi-fresh.
Feel better Tom. Also, I expect a clever newspost about every Wacom from now on.

I approve of this message. I love peanut butter on my waffles sober. That would be tasty as fuck!
I'd probably be a computer teacher, but not the lame kind that simply reads the book, and then teaches it to the class while they teach themselves and knows nothing about how anything works. No. And I wouldn't be the guy that teaches typing either. That's just a waste of personal. I'd try to teach Photoshop and Flash to willing students, make it a fun class that they can also apply to the real world. Have a unit called "Making banner adds". I see a lot of adds around college for people who can make banner adds in Photoshop and Flash. Knowing that skill could help them make some money.
I'd also try to get a small game club going. Teach kids how to make simple games in Flash. Along the way teach them basic art skills, animating skills, and programming skills. It would have to be a 3 class course, and have some math pre-requisites, but I'd always be willing to teach students who want to learn.
I've always thought teaching "Intro to C++" or some other programming language to students. I always hated the fact that my high school offered nothing more advanced than "Basic Web Design using DreamWeaver" to students. There was a large enough base in my school to have an intro to some programming language, and it would have made getting into an engineering college easier.
If I could get away from computers though, I'd teach physcis. Physics was one of the most interesting courses I took in high school because I had an amazing teacher. He knew physics extremely well, taught it well with good assignments and lecture slides, and was hard as hell. He was hard, but unlike many teachers forced you to learn while still being a good teacher. I had teachers where getting an A was easy but you didn't learn shit, but then had teachers who couldn't teach and made passing hard because you had no idea what was going on. My physics teacher was the good mix of the two.
I'd also want to be the teacher that knows a lot about many different things. My physics teacher also taught me Photoshop and video editing, which I've actually applied in a few places. My web design teacher also knew Calculus and the physics behind music.
I feel being a high school teacher is limiting because you don't have the kind of control you need to effectively teach. To compensate I would want to be as knowledgeable as possible so students could feel that I knew the material better than I could teach, and that if they wanted to I would stick around after school to help (which I would to the best of my ability).
this was a longer response than I intended...oh well

You should advertise your need for help with the icons a bit more, 28k submissions to iconify is a lot of work. Also, I'd like to suggest an option that allows me as a user to preview my message before posting it.
I also agree with both of these things. Just put a link at the bottom of the site to Icon Helpers. That way more people would discover it and help. Right now only 3% of the submissions have icons.
And I like the preview option as well.

It would display the Batting Average of the user, and their specialty. Some options for specialty could be:
- AS2 Programmer
- AS3 Programmer
- AS2/AS3 Programmer
- Animator
- Composer
- Artist (3D)
- Artist (Insert Drawing Style Here)
- Common Joe
I like both of these ideas, perhaps a combination of the two. For some of the options, such as the programming and artist ones, make them available to everyone, since it is harder to prove you're a programmer on this site. For flash, audio, and such, you could only make those open to people who have actually submitted movies, games, and stuff.
It would be good to have users choose the text displayed and the icon, though they have to unlock the icons through submitting stuff. I think that is a good alternative because it allows freedom for everyone. It might make posts a little longer in terms of space, but we shouldn't be contributing one line posts should we???
I don't know, more food for though for you guys.
That video was interesting, especially when she goes to visit her parents. Of course they're not proud of her. It's most likely due to the fact that she had more potential than being a porn star. Graduating top 10% of your class means you're probably smart enough to make it somewhere other than the porn industry. And is she really surprised????
If my kid went into porn, son or daughter, regardless of the potential they have in life...I wouldn't support them. I wouldn't stop them, it's their life, but I would never approve. If it makes them happy than fine, but sorry...no. Just no.

Still, nice to know it's there.
I know Microsoft has a program called Dreamspark. If you're a student you're able to get free developer software. I used the program to get Visual Studio 2008 for my EECS 183 class. I think there are at least a half-a-dozen more software deals through the program, but I didn't pay any attention to them.
I'm not sure if it has anything to do with getting discounted versions of operating systems. My university had a program where I was able to get Windows 7 for $20 bucks, but not sure if there's a universal program for that.
Check into dreamspark though if you want any developer software. You might have more uses for it than I currently do.
