For Pete's sake... Of course its not the LITERAL fonction of a finance minister to COUNT every penny. He is accountable though for the way the funds are spent, invested and generally managed. We can't afford to have irresponsible people fulfilling those duties now, can we?

I absolutely agree with you on that one. We're seeing a trend though in public outrage towards CEOs who seem to touch exhorbitant salaries, while their companies are in the red. Too many scandals have made corporate america lose face. There will be reform, somewhere along the line.

M(m)ormons are just part of yet another "a la mode" cult, like jehova's witnesses or raelians (all purposely underscored). They'll all burn in hell, not for practicing their faith, but for impeding upon others'.

They should have stoned those red-neck bastards. I'd seriously lose it if anyone abused my country's flag like that, and would happily accept the consequences.

Response to: Minimum Wage? Raise or keep same? Posted April 11th, 2004 in Politics

Minimum wage raises do fight the effects of inflation, that is if increase rates are rather stable (say 2% for example). In 50 years from now the minimum wage might very well be 20$ an hour, but you will be paying your gallon of milk 10 bucks and your loaf of bread 5. My dad constantly tells me of the wonder years where a burger was 10 cents and a gallon of gas 25... but people were paid less than a dollar an hour! It all equates in the end.

It seems to me that society's structure weakens with every passing generation. Morons and complete idiots continue to breed and pass on their deficient ways of life to their young. As we move along the path of time, we will be faced with the apparent decision of instilling order, be it "artificial" as you say. We cannot expect the human race to benefit from current standards of living (as in the west) forever, without sacrificing some of our currently abundant liberty.

Canada would be a much better place if someone like paul martin (unlikley, hes just as bad) put their fucking foot down.

Paul Martin is neck deep in that pile of gunk himself, so I doubt very strongly that our current government will want to expose EVERYTHING right away. Even if he isn't guilty, he should be destituted for being stupid enough not to have noticed any of the foul play while he was finance minister.

Government owned companies are raking in record profits, at least in my province of Quebec. Electricity, alcohol and gambling bring in billions of dollars a year. It all equates to indirect funding of our institutions.

India totally slipped my mind... With all the US job outsourcing that's going on as well, it just might give them that much more of an edge. I believe I neglected to include that country because China just seems to me as a more "agressive" nation. Call it historical influence or bias.. I dunno.

I can foresee China annexing a few more territories over the next few decades. They are most definitely the great power of the east, Russia being sucked dry by corruption and cronic unemployment, and Japan still carrying limitations as to their military force. If they keep a military reserve with equal proportions to that of the US, they will definitely be a force to reckon with.

I sincerely hope you're not granting "preventive" attacks any validity. What's to stop any other nation from following suit afterwards? Israel and Palestine, Pakistan and India... the potential for disaster is just tremendous. The United States prides itself on "good examples", and this precedent is surely not one to follow.

If anyone else hates IE as much as I do, you might want to check out Avant Browser, its free, virtually identical in appearance to IE, more stable and user friendly.
