"Do onto others what you would want done onto you."
It goes something like that... Morals are a way for society to protect itself from anarchy and total desintegration. I'm fully aware that not all morals have been transmuted into law, at least those that do not clash with personal security, social well being.
I just got tired of seeing that"fucking french" topic on the front page of the bbs. If a mod should look at this topic, lock it, and the other while you're at it. Don't take this personal, the title is just to attract attention.

Sure thing.
Paul Marin came in at a really bad time, being stuck with the chore of dealing with the mess that Jean Chretien left behind. He is though an extremely intelligent man with great business sense. His lack of knowledge vis-a-vis the sponsorship scandal leaves me with a bad impression of him though. He was the head of finance in Canada, it all happened right under his nose. Call it conspiracy or ignorance... it just doesn't look good either way.
Maybe we should just recall the Hitler youth...
Seriously, unless you want to live in a world of mortal robots, public education as it stands (perhaps with more discipline, granted) is the best way to go.

They are more competitive for the companies, sure. But who is actually prospering here? The companies! There will always be jobs in the US, jobs that simply can't be outsourced. Our standard of living isn't articifically inflated - it's the standard of living of the entire west. It's the standard of living for a people who have per capita incomes in the five digits.
I agree with you there. Jobs will continue to be lost regardless, those jobs that can be outsourced. Manufacturing drops will definitely create turmoil amoung those of the Middle and Upper-Middle class workers who depend upon it. How about those people? They'll have to re-educate themselves. There will be a period of transition, rediversification. How do you think that will go?

Looks more like a grade-school level popsickle stick tower than a tribute to those that died on Sept. 11. How utterly cheap, to have this the world's tallest building.

Remember that these countries are also more competitive. Just look at those South American countries who made the dollar shift in past years. Relative stability is acquired, but at the cost of their competitive edge.
All I'm saying is that all things must come to an end. We can't possibly sustain this artificially inflated standard of living forever, without making some sacrifices.
Seeing as I couldn't remain asleep this morning, I stumbled upon a PBS documentary called "In Search of China". Watching it has exposed me to some of the reasons why China is becomming such a blossoming power, economically that is. The chinese, who have known much adversity, seem to have a burning desire to improve their situation. People work hard for their daily bread, most going through periods of months and even years, to touch a decent salary.
We here in the west seem to be sitting on our behinds, getting fat off the milk of a cow that will soon see its milk go horribly sour. I see the west losing its edge every passing day, to countries like China and India, who produce reputable electronics and other products for a fraction of the cost that we do here in the west.
I know that this subject has been brought up many a time here, but I'd like to approach it from a more sociological point of view, rather than a purely economical one. When the time comes where we must accept a drop in salaries, social benefits and quality of life; will we be able to cope, as a society? What do you think the outcome of a world economy will be in the medium and long term on our way of life?

*Multi-Billion*
The use of depleted uranium shelling is just another example of the western military (notice how I havn't singled out the US this time) going in ass first into conflict. With multi-million dollar budgeting, must so-called modern armed forces test their new arsenals on a live battlefield?
We are much beyond the days when Mary Curie payed with her very life the proof that radioactivity is fatal, in both the short and long term. Iraqis should do no less than being those responsible to justice for their horrible disregard of human life.
What the world needs is massive pestilence. That'll bring things back into order.
I'm glad we agree. Hitler though was of course a lunatic, it's just his idea of a unified world that intrigues me. The means to that end though are more than humanity can handle at the moment.

Aye, Clinton was a great president. He had charisma coming out of the ying-yang, unlike good ole daddy's boy GW. His foreign policy was enlightened, much moreso than the current. This is personal opinion, but he just seemed like a "nicer" more accessible person. I'd call myself his biggest Canadian fan, to be truthful.
Who knows, he may very well have brought the world into total harmony. If you think about it, slavery is still in practice today. Paying someone 10 cents for a 12 hour shift in a sweat- shop doesn't make it acceptable.

Survivor Irak... be the last member of your tribe to succumb from dysentary or US military humiliation and abuse.
We should just genetically engineer ONE UNIQUE race of human beings so that all this segregation/racist crap could come to an end. Maybe we should have let Hitler win the war afterall... hmm..*deep thought*.

I beg to differ, Canadian soldiers are cleaning up the mess the US left behind in Afghanistan.
Sick and twisted stuff, naked human pyramids, mimic homosexual poses, and to think, those soldiers were dumb enough to take pictures of it all. Officers should definitely tighten the vice when it comes to subordinates' actions. I've always had the impression that a career in the military is glorious in its own right, and far superior to most others. I just wonder why high ranked officers are just so careless, willing to lose it all.
Reparations... you mean social security and wellfare?

That would work.. if your goal was to exponentially increase the country's crime and death rates. The financial elite would loom over the poor peoples like the monarchs and aristocrats did in the past. We all know what happened to most royal families during revolutions now, do we?
Jesus.. Please tell me that this video is a joke, or somehow doctored! Isn't it purely outrageaous, some third-grade IQ leveled rednecks telling people how to live. Apparently, might makes right in the US.

Hmm... maybe then in 50 years or so, we'll be buying fresh human fetus by the pound instead of veal. Baby... the other other white meat. :)

Very true, and doesn't it make such a barbaric act easier too? I mean, doesn't killing go down easier when its in the name of your God, father/mother (in a religious sense) whom you love and owe your life to?
Carrying the burdens of the past only make us stronger, more resistant. There are certain traumas though that may require such measures, ie: witnessing death, horrible accidents, etc... It's just a matter of drawing guidelines, determining priorities, judging validity and merit.
They're teaching sex Ed to sixth grade children now, so I'm feeling the vibe that society is becoming more conscious of that reality. Humans are hitting puberty earlier on than in the past, its only normal that people feel compelled to act on their impulses. Parents seem to be handing sexual education to school systems, who I might add, are unable to properly cope with it all. The best we can do is preach abstinance and safe sex. Whether we see it as right or wrong, we can't stop minors from having sex.
It seems to me that in this day and age, many core morals and values seem to become "outdated". Where will society draw the line? Homosexuality is no longer taboo ( Don't get me wrong, I respect same-sex relationships, am just using the argument to show how far we're straying from our old mores), adultery and divorce have almost become normal parts of the marrital process, etc.. What is right and wrong in today's society? Where do we turn to establish proper behavioral standards? People are turning their backs on religion, government or any form of structure in general, so what do we have left to turn to? I could go on a tyrade, debating that what feels good isn't necessarily right. We need to keep at least SOME norms of social behavior for crying out loud..
Killing both the religious and operations leader in a matter of weeks.. me thinks the Hamas will be fairly pissed. I for one think they're going to make an example of Sharon. I personally won't shed any tears when they parade down the streets with his head on a stick.
