I don't get it D: Why do you say papervision, unless you're being sarcastic. A lot of games use Flash nowadays, for 2D parts.. I think GTA4 used flash for the internet cafe fake internet pages :p

Crysis used it for all the HUDs/Menus.

I wish we had something like that in the UK.

I wouldn't say it is, i don't condone it, but if it was a strict law then everyone who's seen a movieclip or copyright content would be in breach of the law. If they don't apply the law to that then i can't see how then can apply it to any other video streaming.

Comments?

Something i did for graphics course project, if you like it i will give you my eternal love and service if you buy a print from deviantart.

I know it's not the art forum, so sorry about that, won't happen again.

Wolfram Alpha

I like it (though the £30 ipod app is stupid). It's a good take on a search engine and as you said its very good for more scientific queries. I wish it could compare graphs though (unless i am mistaken), that would be very handy.

Great costumes, the nurse one is very accurate. Now just go around with a huge sword raping everything in sight and you've got yourself a very accurate pyramid head.

Fav Films

I'm going to exclude the normal ones (Godfather, jaws, etc) since everyones posted those.

[] District 9
[] UP
[] Batman Dark Knight
[] Watchmen (Great interpretation of graphic novel)
[] No Country For Old Men (Best bad guy ever, and silenced shotgun)
[] Shaun of the dead.

And as far as TV shows go, Band of Brothers is one of my favourites, along with the wire. I could watch BOB a million times.

If you see the footage it's not the same as gta, it's not light hearted and comical. Some games have had this sort of thing before, but this seems more visceral than previously.

This argument will last 4,000,000,000,000,000 pages so just stop now.

I tend to get racing games for the console, as joysticks have different levels of pressure which you use to steer, but i prefer the accuracy of 3000dpi on the pc for fpss.

Gaming controversy

Anyone seen the new footage of call of duty modern warfare 2? One of the levels is you basically massacring civilians in an airport, i'm guessing as part of a terrorist organization. Now i personally think that's fine, the whole thing looks very grim and isn't glorified or cleaned in anyway. And if you are the type of person that imitates whatever you see then it is your mental status that should be questioned.

Movies and books have always had examples where the reader is put in the bad guys body, i think it's about time that the same was done for games.

I won l4d2 so it's all goood :3. But i agree with liam in some aspects, but i think what's holding valve back now is the engine. Source is very outdated, and for some reason (although it can do it) they aren't intergrating paralax mapping, advanced shaders or proper multi core support.I'm hoping the long wait for ep3 means they are doing something big to the engine, but we'll have to see.

Anyway, i liked l4d1, i agree it got a bit repetitive, but tf2 would have as well if it weren't for the amazing slew of updates.

There's only a certain amount of slack you can give. There are more idiots on the Internet than mentally disabled people, so assuming he is one of the people not willing to put any effort into learning isn't a huge jump.

Review

That's a fantastic review. I think i'll write less reviews now, but spend a while on the games i really feel deserve it.

Uni

I'm going to try and get some living money gathered with a gap year before uni, then i just have to worry about paying off the costs afterwards. To johnny, sorry to hear about your predicaments, that seems like a ginourmous amount of cash for a course.

L4D2 DEMO

Anyone getting it tonight (preorder)? If so add depredation06 to steam if you want to katana some zombies.

Developing

I think the only really realistic way of doing it is to focus on many different areas with one set of art/code. IE make a flash game, an ipod version and if it's a large project, a pc payable version (ala closure). This means you're covering 3 sectors of the market with similar code and the same artwork, maximizing profits and (if its good) making a lot of cash over a long time period.

With CS5 this should be easier, i can't wait to see what i can do (hopefully without a mac).

Robot chicken is funnier without a plot, the plot is just on the backburner now in FG, unlike the good oldies (Season 3).

PARTICEL ACCELERATAR

I was lucky enough to have a tour from someone i know around the accelerator in oxford. It's a fascinating place, everything about it feels like an place of science, from the enormous NASA style control room to the automated robots dipping themselves in liquid nitrogen as not to harm the delicate protein crystals.

If you ever get a change to look around, take it. Even if you're barely interested in particle physics places like that are amazing, even architecturally.

If you've got any questions, ask. I'll try and answer.
