From the HELP file:
Q: The Portal won't accept my movie because it "exceeds the file size limit."
A: The Portal has a 5MB file size limit. We set this limit to encourage more optimized Flash. If we feel your movie is not optimized, and is wasting space, we may delete it. Do not make a 150k flash movie and add a 2-3MB MP3 file! Just remember, Pico is only 300k! If you have something over 5MB that you feel is more than just stick figures shooting each other, you can e-mail it to me and I will post it manually.
Denvish... well... he's a master at monkey-baiting and womble-beating. Oh yeah, and he's the best lover on the face of the planet.

Not wanting to be awkward, but can you explain why not? If you applied the rule ONLY to authors whose submissions were over a certain rating, surely it would encourage more people to submit good Flash?
At 6/22/03 11:47 AM, DevastatoR_da_X wrote: yeah ok, so its a good idea. something should be implemented perhaps for those submitters with awards or a high batting power in terms of exp pts. but as for reviewer/blammers - they have an important role to play too. to sieve through the tons and tons of stuff submitted to the portal daily.
There's no denying that the voters are important too. But surely the Flash authors should have some kind of reward for their work...? Both of my submissions so far took a month to finish and a lot of brainstrain and squinting. It's mentally demanding producing good Flash, and obviously authors appreciate the exposure and bandwidth that NG provides us with (thanks NG crew!)... it just seems appropriate that (good) submitters deserve some kind of credit for their work, and at the moment, they're not really getting it

I think NG needs to get its prioroties right and give the movie makers some credit for their acheivments.
I totally agree with you, I've brought this up a couple of times. Seeing as how NG is supported by Flash authors who sometimes put months of work into a movie, they should get something in return. I suggested giving some kind of boost based on Batting Average, but having + experience points for each well-rated movie (above 3 or 3.5?) you create would probably be better.
However, I should add that every time this is mentioned it seems to be greeted with a stony silence, or general disapproval, maybe because a large quantity of BBS users don't create Flash, they just bitch about it. I think it really should be implemented to give Flash authors an incentive to keep producing excellent work.
Some of it is good but a lot of it is bad

I give up. Ask me an easier question.

Am I to assume that my pie idea isn't going on your to do list then? That's a real shame.
Oh yeah I thought of something else.
A big pie for each and every NG user.
Flavour of their choice
Thanks liljim!!!!! You're a star!!!
I know it's been discussed before but I'd like to see Flash authors get some kind of benefit for their work, like maybe a Voting Power boost, or some Experience Points, based upon their batting average (above C?). Is that possible? Nothing massive, just a bit of a reward for their efforts.

Yes that is a great idea
That's the downside of the new whistle rankings. I don't think the movie should have been flagged (although the pictures are a lot easier to obtain by going straight to a TGP site), but it was obvious that abuse of the system would happen.
Hopefully as time goes by, people will settle down and stop tooting so vigorously, but I doubt it
Heh, it's funny to see this topic cos I decided to change my name from FLiXD (abbreviation of the fictional character Felix Denvish) last night. But I won't be changing it again in the next year.
Yeah you're right, I overstepped the mark there and I'm sorry. I'm gonna go to bed now before I say anything else stupid.
Night all.

firstly.... it would scare you to know that it has been proven that women have actually gone psychopathic because of PMS, lets just say people have died- mainly their husbands.... messy..
Yep I know. I do read. But I don't think PMS is a reasonable justification for killing or maiming someone
secondly.... it damwell does happen, do you wanna swap places with me for a month and see how you like it? eh? thought not! hehehe.... the whole package...moodswings, periods, severe stomach pains, spots, very emotional, feeling bloated, theres more but i want to spare you from the evils...
Yeah go on then. Sort it out, I'll take that on and you can have my constant backache and crippling sciatica that I earnt whilst slaving my guts out to support my family.
I should probably add that I've been with my current partner for 5 years, have nearly 2 babies, am a 'good' guy, and have never threatened to cut a woman's tits or clit off. So you can put the straitjackets away.

Don't you just love that about girls/women? 'Time of the month' is an excuse for anything. If a bloke threatened to cut a womans tits or clit off, he'd be sectioned before he could say "I was only joking", but all a woman's gotta do is say, "oh it's just PMS", and people accept that it's ok for her to be a psychopathic nutter.
And the worst thing is, it doesn't just happen once! I mean, every month??? Bleedin Norah!
Try clearing out your 'temporary internet files' folder occasionally, that may help you
Heh, they only show some sections of that ad on UK TV. I don't thing the 'cock tuck' would make it through the censors somehow
I thought this would be an interesting topic
I don't have much of a claim to fame myself. I've spoken to Ian Botham (cricketer) and Ralph McTell (Guitarist)
I'm sure you can do better, so go for it! Supply dates and/or occasions to help verify your claim
I don't remember this but apparently my first post was in Answer Machines
My favourite:
Hi! John's answering machine is broken. This is his refrigerator. Please speak very slowly, and I'll stick your message to myself with one of these magnets.

Sorry, I meant to say that's inevitable with 3D rendering
Swift 3D (powerful 3D animation program) exports to swf format or swft format (which you can import into Flash and still edit. I'm still learning it. The main problem is that it tends to create rather large file sizes, but that's inevitable with Flash. They have actually worked alongside Macromedia in the past couple of releases.
Swish also exports to swf. It's good for creating cool text FX, but if you want to do anything else, use Flash.
You probably already know that you can import swf files into Flash, so you can create animations in either of the above programs and then incorporate them into a project in Flash
I think there may be a couple of other programs that export to swf but I can't think of them right now. Flash is becoming accepted more and more as the future of animation and web design, so companies are tending to 'adapt to fit', which is great to see.

Well I don't support what the guy did, or see how his brain work, but I should imagine it was an anti-Western thing. The Middle East has its own ideals, religion(s) and morals, which are very dissimilar to Western ones. Unfortunately one of the main trends of Western culture is to inflict itself on everyone... anyone who doesn't abide by the rules is seen as dubious and suspicious. Look at Ethiopia and other African countries. They have massive world debt and famine, so what do we give them?
Coca cola and TV.
Oh look, they're poor, lets take advantage of them.
Osama and Saddam, regardless of your personal opinions, are obviously intelligent people, and wouldn't do something as reckless as attacking the WTC without what they consider to be a good cause.
Just because the USA wasn't actually at war with them at the time doesn't mean they weren't being pressured and pushed by American/Western ideals.
Maybe if the tables were turned and Americans were being bullied into accept an Iraqi or Algerian point of view, they would have reacted in the same way. Particularly if American religious feeling was as strong as Middle Eastern.

You, sir, are a penis.
At 6/18/03 12:12 PM, wismty wrote: Why does the world hate the USA?
Maybe because although America thinks it is a land of purity and freedom, it is a symbol of all that is evil and harmful. It is Western culture at its pinnacle, which basically means its ideals are 'Rape the earth and fuck everyone who doesn't agree with our principles'.
I'm not saying the UK is any better

Same here. I run Meaya's Popup Ad Filter, I tried about 15 different popup killers a while back and I think it's the best one, although it's not (supposed to be) free 8 )
Sure, seems like a good cause.

A law passed a while ago that lets any police force moniter your computer usage without the need of a court order.
And they arn't going to pass anything file sharing or manditory government spyware. Remember, they already know who you are if you start file sharing...
I for one will not permit police spyware or any other spyware on my PC. And no, they can't look at what you're doing with your computer IF you know your way around firewalls, IPs and spyware blockers.
I change my IP every day, run 2 firewalls, and scan my HDD for spyware every other day, using 2 different programs with the latest updates. Ain't no fucker getting into my PC without me knowing about it.
If you have any sense and value your privacy, I recommend that you do the same.
As for filesharing, they will never be able to close it down completely. The hubs on Direct Connect started getting visits from RIAA and MediaForce, so the hub owners (well, the ones that were in the know) downloaded IP block dat files for their firewalls, or ran scripts that blocked IP ranges. Other P2P programs will do the same.
Yes, if the law makes a concerted effort they can take down the occasional individual, but they just don't have the money or resources to stop all filesharing.
