No, they are not toys. But recreational target shooting can be quite fun. And while you can target shoot quite fine with a .22 cal. (and I do enjoy doing this) the variation that an "assault" weapon offers, is also quite enjoyable.

I have never owned a gun. I have also never been murdered, raped, or oppressed by a dictator. Never have I wanted to be carrying an assault weapon with me.

The assault rifle isn't really the kind of firearm that you would use for personal protection. It doesn't really relate well to concealed carry. I don't blame you for not wanting to carry one.

\People smart enough to know what can happen with guns don't buy them. \

There is something I want you to read. On my Blog, I have reposted an article by Jeff Cooper. It is about people who fear guns.
Please click here and read this with, hopefully, an open mind.

Stop allowing the morons from carrying them around everywhere they go. At the max, guns should be used for home protection.

I must say, I'm a bit put off by this. Do you consider me a moron? You don't know me. How can you make this judgment? I one a hand gun. I use it for home defense. But I also use it for personal defense when I'm not at home. I have never had to draw it, and hopefully I never will. But if it comes down to it, I will use it to defend myself, my family, and even you.

Finally, lets not call people names. It's childish, weakens your argument, and makes you look less intelligent.

I have had a neighbor killed by a gun. My friend's house has been hit by bullets twice. A policeman down the street got drunk one time and took his .45 for a "test run" in his back yard.

It sounds to me, like you need to either move into a better location, or start doing something about it. A responsible gun owner, is a responsible citizen first. Most (not all) take an active role in where they live. This can be done with as little as voting for local government leaders who are going to take a tougher stance on crime. People who are committed to strengthening the police departments, and making them better able to respond to and fight these illegal uses of firearms.

As far as the police officer's incident...people who get drunk and drive are just as deadly as people who get drunk and use guns. Would you suggest we ban vehicles? That would currently reduce the number of DUI's and people killed by drunk drivers. And I'm pretty sure you are not suggesting we remove the guns from our police officers hands.

Hay, I am a supporter of the ban being droped, but lets be responsable gun nuts. There were I'm afraid, more then just two events involving automatic weapons.
Lets not forget the Bank of America shoot out in LA.

You can read about it here.
