In middle school for detentions we had to fill in some "restorative justice" themed sheet with questions like, how will you prevent this in the future and what was wrong with what you did. Now, I'm not normally put in detentions because I try to get something out of the public education system (like trying to extract blood from a rock sometimes, but occasionally my hands have been bloodied by a stone) and don't go around stirring up shit like a generic douchebag. However, my middle school art teacher was a total bitch. Need something from your locker? Detention. For another class? Detention. Have permission from that Teacher, and it's during that class you have with them? Detention. Because you don't have HER permission. Forget a pencil, using pen for some absolutely irrelevant thing that no one will care about in 5 minutes? Detention. Have an eraser? Good, is it above a certain length? No. Detention. Basically she took her power issues out on her students and was a shitty teacher. I got detentions for all listed reasons, except for the eraser thing, my friend got that one. You can imagine that trying to write a paragraph explaining your honest mistake of forgetting an eraser is something of a stretch, but try having to write three different paragraphs about it. Yeah, What I did, What's wrong with it and What I can do to avoid it in the future, ok, now I probably should have put in there "tell her that next time she sends me here I'll send her to the morgue", but at the time I was just trying to get my head around serving a detention for something I had to do during a different class.

Remembrance Day (I guess that would be Veteran's day down in the States) is coming up, and this year I'm a tad more involved than before. I'm preparing the visual presentation for the Remembrance Day assembly, and teaching my Drama class some basic drill to supplement their Tableaus. I'm going to be at a cadet thing for that so it's how I got off, and as a result of all this my faith in the future of Democracy is thoroughly shaken. In what seems to be direct spite of the efforts to keep the memory alive, todays youth (I am one of today's youth, sorry liberals, you just lost a line of attack) are completely indifferent to the cost of producing the society that they live in. It may not be perfect, but at least you won't get Birkenau'd for saying that you don't like the government (cookie for knowing what I mean). I even know some kids who are planning to skip the remembrance day stuff because they find it boring, I get that you have the freedom too do so and not get caned but it really is no skin off your fucking nose for for attending an assembly and shutting the fuck up for a couple of minutes when the clock strikes 11. I guess it's because my generation has never come under threat or had to safrifice anything for something as basic as freedom of speech, but I still find it insulting the attitude most kids have towards it.

Sorry, just pissed off about that whole Arlington thing, reminds me of what I'm surrounded by.

February, Christmas is over, the snow has lost it's novelty, and it gets dark fast. I'm so glad that I quit my paper route, partially because of and supplemented by that fact that we tend to get alot of "ice days" since freezing rain is at it's most frequent in February. There was this one kid in my math class, I actually was made to sit beside him by the math teacher's arbitruarly monthly change of seats. I already knew I hated this kid, some issues from middle school. He made it basically impossible to get anything done and probably caused a long supressed anger problem to come to the surface. To deal with this, I went to the teacher who's wonderful planning caused this and threatened to hospitalize the kid if I wasn't moved IMMEDIATELY. She obliged and I didn't even get any shit for it, and for the record neither did he, I just wanted the teacher to correct her mistake.
