Topic: A short rant about grammar.

Posted: 04/21/09 10:45 AM

Forum: General

You spelled "because" wrong. So therefore this whole topic is void.

But for shits and giggles I'll make a response anyway.

I find that (What you're talking about) is generally a weak way for someone to find a loophole in an argument. Among other things, it also gives some people the superiority buzz they're looking for. Funny thing is, that in the countless times I've seen people correct others for their grammar or spelling that they themselves make a mistake in the same post. If you're going to be a hypocritical douche, at least check over the damn post you're calling them out in.

But, there are times where it can be appropriate to play this type of complaint. For instance, if you can't spend the time to talk in a coherent and correct manner, then it brings up the question of if you really care to make a point at all. Although there are those whose spelling and grammar isn't fantastic in their online posts, yet still make clear and definitive points, they're generally the exception. In being the exception, people do love to generalize, especially those who themselves fall prey to such grammatical deviancy themselves every so often.

I think it all comes down to the fact that although the post in question could have good points within grammatical and/or spelling errors, it always strengthens an argument appearing like you know the language you're arguing in. It's like at a job interview, there could be a good person behind a weak handshake, but that firm handshake gives off that first impression of caring about what you're doing.

Probably too long of a post for most newgrounders, but ah well, I'm procrastinating in writing an essay at the moment and have nothing else I can think of to do.

Forum: General

It all comes down to how your brain processes information. If you're more of a visual or literal type, the movies or neither might scare you.

If you have the imagination to back up the foundation of fear a book gives you then it'll most likely be a book if it's well done.

The people of NG generally aren't smart enough to grasp the proper use of a system such as you propose.

Plus, the mods love locking topics. Like this one most likely will be. If not for breaking some technicality in a rule that you overlooked, it's for the sheer irony of doing so. Taking away a bit of that responsibility will kill their buzz for weeks.

Topic: U.S. eductional system is a torture

Posted: 02/17/09 11:58 PM

Forum: General

You think changing classrooms is bad? I found it to be one of our pro's. Change of scenery, change of teacher, and a chance to chat it up for a few minutes before classes with people in the halls.

And we do get to pick electives. Most high schools are based upon semesters when choosing elective classes, so you get to choose a set of electives for each half year. Some of them are fun, it depends on what you like and what your school offers.

The system is most definitely broken, I'll definitely admit that much. But none of the reasons you list are really the problem with it. Distribution of funds and teacher aptitude are probably our largest problems within the system. Also, our standardized testing is absolutely abysmal compared to other countries.

And my high school let out at 2 pm everyday. I was allowed to go off campus during my lunch period, and you could link a study hall to a lunch period to elongate it. On top of that most study hall teachers didn't give a shit and you didn't even need to sign in and could do whatever you liked. As a senior you weren't even required to check in.

Nevermind the fact that if you had study halls at the end or beginning of classes you could come in late or leave early.

I've had to put my first dog down for cancer. It wasn't pretty, but overall i think it's what she deserved.

It sucks to have your dog die, but it's worse to watch them suffer.

Those surgeries are always extremely expensive, and they usually only keep them alive so long.

Say you're sorry but you just don't find her attractive enough and only went that far so she wouldn't feel bad.

Then spread rumors about her being a whore all around.

Then become a vampire, star in a movie about the teenage drama that surrounds this, and name it something cliche.

Topic: An Epic Gps Adventure.

Posted: 11/13/08 09:13 PM

Forum: General

So, for some reason my mom's Tomtom has a bad habit of leading you into the middle of fucking nowhere to get to someplace really simple. I decided one day when bored, having a full tank of gas, and a friend in the passenger seat to go on an epic adventure.

I hopped in my care, i grabbed the tomtom, i made sure all the settings were good. Yes, i realize there are options to turn off highways and stuff that could screw with the path it leads you on, but all of these options are fine, this thing is just crazy apparently.

I picked a place that i knew i could reach easily by highway and put it into the gps. Now, to really fuck it up i made sure to not follow it's directions for a little bit, then i started to follow them. Boy, was it fun. The streets i found seemed like they were rarely traveled, creepy as hell, or were literally leading to nowhere. Now that the thing was nice and pissed at me i just spent an hour blindly following it's directions. I'd say i arrived at my location in about 1:15, and it usually is a straight trip on the highway in 20-30 minutes.

Pointless, fun, and i got to make a phonecall to the company with my story. They weren't as amused as me, but they did say they would give us some bullshit little trinket or other for our trouble.

So, i felt like sharing this. Do you guys have any epic random adventures when bored?

I don't weigh a lot, and i only drink hard liquor since i don't much like beer, so to get sick i'd say it'll take about anything over 6 shots.

The most i've ever done is around 15 though, and that was on an empty stomach when i first started drinking and i mixed liquors. Basically i was puking my guts out for a good 8 hours.

I was on the internet before search engines.

Internet became public in '89, internet became popular in about '94. Internet is still fairly new, so you being 30 doesn't give you more experience than someone who is 17 with it.

And being intelligent isn't exactly a trend to discourage. Maturity i half agree with you on. Some people take the maturity thing too far because they don't understand what acting mature really is. Being stuck up, and acting mature are completely different things. You can still have a sense of humor and be mature.

When talking maturity most people mean the idiots who troll and aggravate people online on purpose for the sole attempt of laughs from another's frustrations. Those fools, no matter how old, are immature, and most likely would act the same way in real life if they didn't know they would get their asses handed to them.

Great movie, and as said, time is indeed the 4th dimension.

A hypercube is an actual theoretical object as well, they just exaggerated it in the movie. Check out the very first one, i think it's just as good if not better than the second one. There's 3 of those movies in total. 1, 2, and a prequel (that's the one i suggest watching).

Actually he made a sexist comment, not a racist comment. He called the chick a gorgeous asian twat. Which, if anything, is a compliment besides the whole "twat" part (which isn't an asian racial slur).

And conservative Christian girls just don't hold my interest in the least, i couldn't even stand speaking to one for more than 5 minutes, and they better be damn hot to get 5 minutes of conversation out of me.
