Response to: CS3 Layering Problems Posted January 1st, 2008 in Game Development

This happened to me once and it took a while to figure out how to fix it. The two little grey bars that give you the double arrow nned to be double clicked. That will expand and contract the layer's labels.

If the shape over the area is not a movieclip, convert it to one. Then go in to filters down were the properties are and change 'blend' 'invert'.

Both the Bamboo and the Bamboo Fun have driver downloads for XP. So yes, they will work on XP.

Response to: Flash Portal Posted January 1st, 2008 in Game Development

I've seen some photo gallery tools, but I don't think you can just download a portal like this. You will need to learn some php, sql, html, and maybe CSS to make your own like this.

Response to: cs3 pro help Posted January 1st, 2008 in Game Development

Pro is no different in terms of apperance and capabilities than student. The only notable difference is that the student version is not aloud to be used for profit.

If you need help learning flash or Actionscript, Lynda.com is a great site for learning just about any program, though it's $25/month. If you don't want to spend any more money, you can find lots of help from Google.

The time of submission plays a huge role in the final score. There is a huge amount of research that could be done on this topic. I personly believe that the best time to submit is at about 4:30 EST on a weekday, preferably Friday. This is about the time kids will get home and log on. The younger members tend to vote higher than the hardcore members, and there will be a swarm of them on at that time. Of course there are many more variables that are applied. But I think this is one of the better times to submit.

Like Jindo said, I think the menu could of been more helpfully designed and that there could of been a hot key or button that returned to the main menu if the player got bored of the game. Next year we'll have to make sure we have those features.

As far as I've seen, we are in first by 20 points. Plus we have 9 people 5'ing it every day. It looks as if it's sure to win! Chad's game is in second, (from all the games I've seen) though behind by this one by 20, but ahead by a couple points.

Everyone seems too be distracted by Mochiads and the Maxgames contest to submit anything in the AG contest. So I decided to make another last minute game! It didn't do as well but you can still play it here!

Here is a list of all the games I've seen so far in the contest:
Reindeer Crusher
Christmas Rush
Terrorist Santa 2
Christmas Race
Chimney Diver

Also, I think ENTER should return to menu just in case someone doesn't want to play through the game.
And like I said before, I think the title on the menu needs to be brought out a bit and there should be some music on the menu.

Response to: Xmas Game Collab 07 Posted December 20th, 2007 in Game Development

!WAIT!
There is a bug
Tower shooter won't return to menu

Also just a note that Dan is in CA (I think) and is 8 hours behind you. So you still have a good 14hours+ to finish it up :)

Which games have problems? I don't have time on my own to check them all. :/
Game info fades in now.
I'll try and get rid of the overlap.
Got any suggestions for music on the main menu?

basic loop. It can get anoying after a while.
I don't think the fifth is working (from the left)
third isn't working (Ithink because of depth)

I can't do in in-depth bug run, but I have some more graphical ideas:
add drop shadow or bg around title on menu
make titles color a gradient and maybe darken the red some

Response to: Xmas Game Collab 07 Posted December 20th, 2007 in Game Development

Some fixes that MUST be fixed:
Some games have problems with creating MCs. This is most likely because they are trying to spawn on the same depth
Some games need directions
Game info should fade in with the text bubble
Presents overlap making multiple text bubbles appear

Some things that can be changed/added:
Music player so there is always music (theres nothing better than music to getthe player in the Christmas spirit)
Text bubbles fade in faster (people are impatient)
Something to make out what each present(game) is without rolling over it.

Wich I could help, but I've got finals tonight so I have to study.

Yeah, sorry. I always do that D :<

Hello everyone! We (Chad and I) are submitting our games in the collab!
Here is a list of what we got:
Chimney Shoot - dank
Chimney Maze - Chad
Present Catch - dank & Chad
Toy Factory - dank & Chad

If someone could fill us (me) in on how everything is going, that would be great.

I hope it will look better when it has been polished up. I'm extending the due date to the 18th and I submit it 19th or 20th.

You can use anything. Just make sure it's readable. If you want it to be like mine, I'm using Lucida Sans, I put all of the Lucidas I had in the zip though.

It would be a lot of extra work and we would have to re-write more than half of the games.
