So I feel I may of been subconsciously listening. Though I dunno... maybe I was just fortunate and fell asleep in the chorus and woke up the same time in the next one or something :P

Yeah I know what you mean. A few times i've heard music playing while i've been asleep, usually on long distance travels. It's quite an odd sensation and it doesn't seem like time has passed.
Im guessing the ambient 7 hour track would be great in that occasion, it's just that that sort of occasion is terribly hard to be contrived.

I think Gervais' stand up is probably better too. Perhaps not as outlandish as Bill Bailey, but certainly quite different from what you usually get. Im not always so keen when he uses harsh grounds to make jokes about, like disability cos it's like he's being lazy.
Animals was certainly better than Politics in my opinion, but I did a geeky thing of listening to the Politics commentary and it was really good, totally unrelated to the show, just Gervais ripping it out of Robin Ince. Meet Karl Pilkington was a good extra too. I prefer listeing to him on the podcasts than Gervais to be honest.

To be honest I wouldnt mind if The Office had all the non-Brent parts erased, because the main reason I ever liked it was just watching Gervais' expressions on his podgy face, along with all his brentisms and embarassing moments. I found some of Gareth's bits alright though.

Nowadays I think I enjoy watching Extras more than The Office, and yeah it is more intelligent, but I adore the more out of this world sitcom-like moments as well, involving Darren and Barry's antics and Maggie's stupidity. I do find When The Whistle Blows funny as well :P

Talking about Mock the Week, there's one thing that always bugs me about that show, although doesnt repulse me from it; whenever a round finishes it's obvious that Dara has no thought behind his point distributions and gives them to whoever he remembers a joke by :P

Yeah I think the initial humour of him being "proud" of his work has worn a bit thin, even though he's always done it ironically.
I've read stuff about him and Steve just wanting to write drama serials instead of sticking to comedy.

Funny thing is, all the long songs I found were (20min+) were by Progressive artists.
Coincidence? I THINK NOT.

Long songs would have to be progressive in order to keep listeners interested, and on the other hand progressive artists like to have long songs in order to show off the composition, which happens to be progressive.

I heard about this doom metal band doing an hour+ song but I never checked it out.

At 9/10/07 12:07 PM, Bahamut wrote: Hahaha. The only pathetic people that exist are you and all the DT fanboys that are complete faggots.

I don't think it's much to do with being a fanboy, personally im just curious as to why you're so hostile to an album which really isn't any worse compared to the band's other work.
However, I don't think you're justified by making out other people are pathetic by laughing by calling them faggots. Honestly you can't get more pathetic than that.

Shut up faggot, I'm not closed minded.

To be quite honest, yes you are, someone who doesnt have a very sporadic music taste. Progressive music is all about diversity and it seems to me you don't like any changes in the music you listen to.

It is different. The other ballads were fine, but Through Her Eyes has such fucking awful singing.

That's a fair comment, if you don't like the singing then that's your opinion. It's a little unfair to judge an entire album on one song though.

Mike's drumming could've been a lot better. If it was awesome like on Awake, I would've been ok with the drumming on the song.

I thought the drumming on the song was great. There's no point in being blatantly pretentious with your abilities. Lets not forget Dream Theater are progressive, so their music is subject to change and be diverse, and open minded people can handle that.

Reason? Oh wait, there isn't a reason why it's amazing, because it's fucking shit.

Again more petty arguements. This really doesn't justify the claim you're making. I think people here dont have a gripe with you because you hate the album, they just think your claims are pathetic and unjust. We're just curious as to why you don't like it, and we'd appreciate some mature discussion.
I personally think Home is a great song. Very progressive, heavy and a beautiful usage of Phrygian scales to make the awesome mediterranian/eastern sound.

Yeah, not to mention the modest amount of gross earnings he gained from his not-so-popular television programmes.

I dunno, i've seen clips of the dvd on youtube and I noticed that the drums were too loud and you couldnt hear petrucci enough, but I dont know if that was a surround-sound recording or whatever.
Im talking about the CD mainly, as Score sounds much more like a concert and Budokan sounds very much like a studio album, i.e. no atmosphere or emotion, which i think is more apparent on Score.

I dont quite understand what point is being made here, i've never heard of a rabbit getting millions for being run over.
People campaign for all sorts of reasons, including animal cruelty and, believe it or not, Mexicans getting deported, and to be fair they're not in the same league.

Rabbit's aren't getting a better deal you know, it's not like they're gonna get a job instead of some poor mexican. The reason people protest against the cruelty to animals isn't because there's one less rabbit, it's because of the mentality behind the people who kill it for their own amusement, for example.

You're making out that animals have more rights than us, which is stupid. Mexicans get deported for a reason.
I don't think you really care about this issue, you just want to moan about something for the sake of it.

I think Score is better than Budokan, apart from maybe the setlist. Mind you, the last two discs of Score are unbeatable.

Score is the better concert. I wish I was there.

The problem with Falling Into Infinity's cover is there is no Majesty logo and no Dream Theater font, because the graphic artist has who design it has some weird gripe about using other people's fonts.

e should, because his own ones suck by the looks of it.

I've heard a few songs off that album and I liked them, and i'll get it regardless of what people say because i've got a feeling i'll still like it, if I make sure I don't expect too much Dream Theater-ness of it.

Space Dye Vest sounds like it's about love in a relationship, but I don't know which angle it's coming from. The soundbites in the song don't give you much insight either.

Thankfully the song is fabulous besides that.

Well James loves his political lyrics dont he?
The only thing I hate about political lyrics is when they try and promote some movement to change. Thankfully Sacrificed Sons doesnt annoy me in that sense, although Prophets of War has exactly that element, with the "time to make a change" bollocks.
But yeah I like the lyrics to The Great Debate and In the Name of God too.

And yeah the music of Sacrificed Sons is wank-worthy.

Most of the comedies im interested are British, but America has it's fair share of good comedies. I don;t enjoy much European comedy, besides the fact that I can't understand it.

Most of the Dvds I have are british comedy programmes, and a few stand ups like Gervais and Connolly.
My favourite American stand up comic is probably Pablo Francisco, he's a fucking legend.

Response to: Convincing you religion is wrong Posted September 1st, 2007 in General

To be honest I think the Bible is mainly a collection of fables which were designed to spread moralised stories among the community. I don't agree in taking it literally, but let's not forget religion has been subdivided countless times, and I think it comes from people understanding the morals in different ways. If you notice most religions praise some sort of manifestation of a deity, and the existance of such deity is no where near impossible if we ourselves are alive. If you look at us we can decide the fate of a lower form of life. It's not impossible for there to be higher forms of life than us doing exactly the same, and if you are going to think of God as an actual entity or being then that's certainly a possibilty that can be attributed to him without the need of faith.

Perhaps before the introduction of revolutionary science it all was merely faith, but if science has shown us anything (well to be fair its shown us quite a lot), it's that we really are nowhere near understanding everything there is to understand.
So basically it's stupid just to deny the existance of God on account of some people who annoy you because they have silly beliefs, in your eyes.

I think people take the Bible too literally. We should remember that the Bible was mostly written by man, and evolution hasn't perfected the flaws in man's thinkings and understandings.

Response to: Convincing you religion is wrong Posted September 1st, 2007 in General

Whenever I talk about religion ans science with somebody it usually boils down to the famous line, "Well if God created the universe, who created God?"

If you do consider God an entity then this is a worthy question to ask. But really it has the same mysteries surrounding it as the creation of the universe. Who created God? Who created the universe? It's the same question.

I am fascinated by science and I will continue to study it with utmost interest. But i've been brought up in a Catholic way of living and so I understand the teachings of Christianity.
For science, our evidence is pretty water-tight for our own frames of reference. But we only know exactly what we have discovered. It is a known fact that a man named Jesus walked the earth 2000 years ago, and laid down the morals of Christianity.
The facts that we have discovered in science can only be supported by what we have found ourselves as human beings, from other reference points in celestial bodies which carry the same properties as what can be found on earth.
But nobody really knows the big picture. In the greater scheme of things all science does is prove the occurances that we have discovered ourselves.

Science, and evolution and the like cannot disprove the existance of God, especially since the Theory of Everything is non-existant. The only thing we have to go by is that from our point of view science is more trustworthy.
I don't think faith has to play a big role in the entire thing, all im saying is dismissal of a belief can't be justified by facts which cannot be explained in the bigger picture.

Hi guys.
Well i'm not exactly a player of the piano/keyboard as such, but I am highly interested in doing so.

Basically i've been playing the guitar for a year, and got down with all the scales and techniques that are out there for the guitar. What happened was I was round my aunt's house, and my little cousin has a toy keyboard, like a mini barbie one or something, and I became fixed to it as I discovered by myself the identity of the keys, and with my knowledge of guitar scales I was able to transpose it onto the keyboard, and it was so cool for me. I got down quite a few tunes by just improvising with pentatonics and the different modes.

So yeah i've become a lot more interested in learning, and i've casually studied aspects of blues and other forms of piano music, and I want to get it under way.
Thing is my technique sucks a lot. i've got the theory, I just need to work on hand movements, and co-ordinating both hands at the same time is something I really struggle with, so it's not possible for me to lay down a bass line and solo at the same time (well not in a good sounding way anyway).

Basically need some tips. I'm certain it's probably a good idea to get a teacher, but I was just wondering if there's any way I can practise on myown that'll help, that you guys can tell me about.

Cheers!
