Thoughts On Other Music Genres? Posted May 5th, 2010 in General

So, thought I'd do a little social experiment. I'm curious as to how people who like a certain genre view other genres. How rockers look at house or fans of country view metal... etc.

Basically, follow this outline and pick an umbrella genre as yours (Don't say death metal say Rock/Metal, don't say house say Electronica, etc...)

The Genre You Like:

Thoughts on each genre:

Rock/Metal -

Pop/Pop-punk/Hiphop/R&B -

Rap -

Electronica/Dance -

Country -

Classical -

Jazz -

A Whole Genre Downvoted? Posted April 14th, 2010 in Audio

Is it just me or did someone zero vote the majority of the first page of House?
What the hell is wrong with people?! The whole order of things was destroyed and songs that were sort of new but very good are now in the very low 4's/high 3's.

Did someone on here just snap and vote zero on every single song?! I've been on here for 7 years and have never seen something like that. I think there is MAYBE 2 songs in the top 20 that were in the top 20 just last night. Wow something seriously needs to be done about zero voting.

(Thank god it's not the old days of one vote per IP address or that whole genre would be ruined on here)

But I'll give you credit for giving drawing a go after 7 years of not.

Yeah I know what you're saying and it was driving me insane. I had no clue how to approach fixing it cause I don't really, how to fix it.

To me it almost seemed like it was two sketches put together. The door and back looks decent on its own and the wheel and forward looks good on it's own, but once it is put together it looks off.

Super Newbie: Opinions On Sketch? Posted March 8th, 2010 in Art

Well, I did something today that I haven't done since the 7th grade...

I drew.

Yup, for some reason today I decided to draw what I always used to love to draw as a child... Cars! I was never any good at drawing or painting or any sort of visual art but after getting a tip from an automotive engineer today on how to start (Basically told me to draw a baseline, 1 oval, 2 circles and go from there) I'm pretty proud of what I drew.

This was done from scratch just using the advice I mentioned above and thats it. It did come out very sorroco looking but that was completely unintentional... Thats just how it ended up looking.

What do you think? I know it's not a masterpiece but for a 20 year old who hasn't seriously tried to draw anything by hand for almost a decade, I don't think its too shabby... Anything I could change?

So I'm noticing my hair is getting a little longer-ish and I'm trying to decide if I should cut it or not...

I'm actually kinda liking it right now but I can't tell if thats what my girlfriend or others think lol. I'll probably keep it for a bit anyway simply cause I don't really want h-core preppy gelled up hair, but I also don't want to walk around looking like a goof or have it come off looking, for lack of a better word, Gay... Which is what my friend was called when he had a similar style.

Anyways what do you guys think...

Spiked (not really a fan of gel anymore, And please ignore the loser face. ...Highschool...)

Fauxhawk (This involves less gel but still seems overdone)

And yes, I know. "You're ugly", "Fag who cares" blah blah blah, I just want to know which hairstyle suits me the best...

So you decided to break the portal rules for the purpose of showing us what... that autotune can produce generic vocals?

Please, save the mixing, mastering and production criticism for actual attempts at music.
Why not show us what you're trying to show us with... an actual attempt at music?

The Power Of Autotune Posted January 28th, 2010 in Audio

So I just downloaded the Antares Autotune Evo 5 trail. This program is, to my knowledge, the industry standard Autotune. It's a very simple program to use and is compatible with most common producing programs.

It's power is amazing. It's basically a piano roll where you just put the notes you want to hit and it corrects your pitch and viola! As long as your settings are properly adjusted (the hardest part) and your original track isn't WAY off, you have yourself a decent vocal track

An example of Autotune at work, a cover of Jay Sean - Down:

  • The Power Of Autotune

    Click to listen.

    Score
    0 / 5.00
    Type
    Song
    Genre
    Miscellaneous
    Popularity
    2 Views

Thats me singing (I am fully aware of the suckage, thank you). Both tracks have the exact same original vocals and exact same beat. I exported the original and then autotuned it and exported it again.

The autotune track also has some Delay, Compression and Equalization added to it as well to make it sound as good as possible.

That was done in about 10 minutes and I've been using the program for maybe 45 (Settings took a while)

"American Exceptionalism" Posted August 23rd, 2009 in Politics

o I was just going through some political videos on Youtube and stumbled upon a video of a Obama being criticized for not "subscribing to American exceptionalism"...

First off? ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS!?!?
American Exceptionalism? In what, exactly are you guys exceptional?

Quality Of Life?

- In the last "Economist Intelligence Unit's quality-of-life index" You're country ranked an Exceptional 13th.

- In the Quality Of Life Index for 2009 done by Internationalliving.com you guys ranked 3rd. Exceptionally behind France and Switzerland.
But in important categories like "Cost of living", "Environment" and "Health" you guys don't even rank in the Top 20! In "Economy" you're not top 5, and "Leisure and Culture" your not top 3? In fact your "Exceptional" country doesn't rank #1 in any category. You guys do however make up a lot of ground on potential #1 countries like Canada, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Norway, Sweden in the crucial "Climate" category...

- In Mercer's 2009 Quality of Living Survey, the exceptional United States didn't place a single city in the top 5... or top 10... or top 20... or top 25!!! In fact, the first American city on the rankings is Honolulu at 29. All the Top 5 cities in the "Americas" category came from Canada. That's just really exceptional.

Economy?

- Yes, the United States does have the highest GDP in the world according to the three major outlets on the subject (International Monetary Fund, World Bank, CIA World Factbook), however in GDP per capita (per person) you guys drop to an exceptional 6th, 4th and 8th place.

- You guys do rank #1 in External Debt! Yay! 95% of your "worlds highest" GDP is spoken for which isn't actually all that bad, most countries owe significantly more then there GDP, however countries like China (5%), Canada (59%), Italy (58%) Spain (79%) and dozens more owe A LOT less. Not really exceptional of you know is it...?

- You each individually owe a total of $42,343! Puts you at #14 worldwide behind several developed nations.

Seriously, outside of Military where you guys are #1, America is hardly "exceptional" in anyway. To be so arrogant is ridiculous. You guys wonder why almost everyone on the planet despises you?? I know a lot of Americans are smarter then to think this but for someone to have the sheer cockiness to blast your leader for maybe not feeling the same way and perhaps even recognizing your country (like every country) has flaws that he could try to fix is just jaw droppingly stupid. Obviously its not just a small minority that feel this way as there were many videos on this subject.

My Song Was Played At A Club!! Posted November 9th, 2007 in General

So I was at a local club yesterday, just chilling and having a blast dancing to some Trance/Dance music when out of nowhere my song comes through the speakers!!!

At first I didn't think it was mine because it's actually a remix of a Basshunter tune (Alot of you have probably heard it. It's that little song/clip Basshunter made for a tutorial on youtube.) and there's alot of versions of it out there but as it kept going I realised it was my version of it!

When I talked to the DJ it turns out it he's the same guy who asked me if he could include my tune in a mix he's doing and yeah! It was really cool, the guy isn't even signed or managed anything, just a kid like me so it was really sweet to meet someone like that.

And the fact that I saw everyone jumpin' to my beat was pretty amazing aswell!
