i meant "tr00" black metal, not hot topic-core black metal. mayhem, immortal, emperor, marduk, and a few other black metal bands, when compared to others, are relatively popular.

Relatively speaking, when comparing them to other metal bands, they're about as mainstream as black metal gets.

on my old account, i signed up as "vampscarecrow" (i was 13, give me a break). i soon changed it to CleverNickname, and so it remained until the name lock. Dentatus was taken when I made this account, so I was something ilke -Dentatus- (we used to be able to have hyphens before and after our names). Then I changed it to X-Dentatus-X when we weren't able to have hyphens, and then finally D3NTATUS when i realized that looked like shit.

this isn't counting times i've changed my name for some novelty reason like christmastime, or making my name "----------CleverNickname" to put myself as #1 on the "users online" list

People used to make a huge deal out of the violence in movies (some groups still do). It's just like comic books, rap, and metal; all were controversial for a while, but the opposition ultimately gave up when no hard evidence to back up their claims surfaced, and the next big thing arises. Right now, that controversial thing is video game violence. the internet is also getting some shit, but not for violence.

At the time of that video, rap (especially hardcore and gangsta rap) was an underground affair, and metal was the media's scapegoat.

My favorite non-metal bands, as of now, are Animal Collective and Why? And, i've been listening to a lot of Andrew W.K. and The Flaming Lips recently.

Don't tell me you never met an elitist black metal fan...

"elitist" is a subjective term, therefore, it is not a fact. and it's still a generalization to say that a lot of black metal fans are elitists.

It's fallacious to think that music was any better in the 70s or 80s. You guys only hear the good and popular stuff from that time period; they had their fair share of shit just like we do. In the decades to come, future generations will only remember the best and most popular music of this decade.
