Tell me about it - £4 for a gallon. Or, to put it another way, 87p for a litre, 62p of that is TAX. That's three times the US price per litre, and 20 times the amount of tax. Now, last time I checked, there were oil platforms of the British coast, so how are the prices so high?

Come to think of it, petrol is about the most expensive in Cardiff - and there's an oil refinery down the road in Swansea. Something fails to add up here...

There are countries out there that pay twice as much as we do for gas, and they deal with it (by driving efficient automobiles.) The fact remains that it's not that bad, and that the media is creating a perception of an oil crisis. Let me repeat: it's not that bad!

No, we don't "deal with it" - in 2000, there was a mass protest for the space of a week, blockading refineries and so forth (although thery lost sympathy with go-slows). In fact, there was going to be one this week, but it was cancelled due to "good dialogue with the government." Which essentially means the price per litre will be dropped by 5p, then raised by 7p soon after.

I drive a Civic.

Big whoop. I don't drive - there's no point, since I can walk and use public transport. That's why I'm not in the obesity statistics.

"We won't be having another mass protest over petrol prices." - Alastair Darling (who'll be fired in about a month for that remark, after another mass fuel protest).

"We're having a problem with international oil prices." - Alastair Darling again, lying. After all, fuel prices in Britain are the highest in Europe, which is strange considering we have oil platforms in the North Sea.

"You would expect governments to prepare for all sorts of eventualities." - Alastair Darling once again. Because the 2000 Fuel Protests were prepared for, weren't they?

Think of it like this - in 1945, the only nation that could be said to be Anti American was the USSR (after all, German troops were climbing over each other to surrender to the Americans, rather than risk being cuaght by the English, French or - worst of all - Russians).

So, how comes in under sixty years, they have managed to turn every nation against them, almost systematically? After all, in 1945, even Iraq was an ally of the USofA.
