The basis of the many drawbacks to posting in thread is the limits of html they let us use here, and the lack of space to insert image codes for the flashy flashy stars I made was the least of the problems.

In any case, yes, 1k/week was the break point I selected for the stars. They were not common which made them more special to have obtained ... at least until Bob became unemployed for a short period and started getting them every week. Even when several people were earning them in a week, it was still a relatively uncommon event, and those were during periods when 1500+ submissions a week were coming in.

As this is your list now, set the star pace at whatever level you want. My main advice on it is to continue to make it difficult to obtain. That keeps it in the spirit in which it was originally intended ... and star pace is simply something else you will need to track. One option I toyed with but never implemented was making it a percentage relative to the total submissions in between updates. Simply note the PID of the most recent submission at the time of one post and subtract it from the PID of the most recent when you start gathering the stats for the next, with your selected percentage then dictating how points they needed to have earned to obtain the star.

Good Luck!

Clock Day has once again come upon us and gone with the wind. In its wake were left behind a record number of submissions and an extraordinarily large number of people who now have a flash or two to their credit. Copngratulations to all who made it past judgment, and we'll keep our fingers crossed for those of you still awaiting the final verdict.

Not all is sunshine and lollerskates in the Land of B, however. Once again, the NG Graveyard claimed its share of the hopefuls. 114 entries now rest in pieces beneath gravestones with epithets like, "u fuck fagot cock day rules GO FUCK YOUR SELF AND NEVER CAME BACK AND IF YOUR GONIG TO SAY ANYTHING DONT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1," and "this sucks fhsakldfbsldhlhgoet dieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

These flash were so horrendously bad, so poorly done, so vile, that even on Clock Day they could not manage to make it past judgement. But this was Clock Day, and that makes them 1337. It takes a special kind of person to be able to get blammed on Clock Day, and now you can show that you area member of this elite band of artists ... the few, the proud, TEH SUCK.

D0GMA, Ltd. in conjunction with Newgrounds, Clock Crew, Lock Legion, Glock Group, Star Syndicate, and every other group that's spun off, offer you the opportunity to acquire these limited edition T-shirts for the low, low price of $12874762162839450.01. That's right, we said limited edition. Only 114 of these will be printed, commemorating each individual wail of, "how teh fuck did I get blammed on Clock Day?" Shirts are available in white and B for black, with B for blood red hand stencilled lettering and one of three personalized messages on the reverse. Each of these hand crafted can be ordered in you own special size of Small, Medium, Large, X-Large, K1L0, and OMFG and are crafted from the finest Domokun fur by our select team of unpaid third world children. Below you can see the front of this beautiful attire, and the reverse options will follow shortly.

Clock Day Clean-up Crew ... where ever you folks are, we've still got some work for you.

UJ flash are still backlogged, and quite a few of them are available to be voted upon again as they were technically submitted last week as far as the NG Clock is concerned.

Check here and here for anything still listed as Under Judgement.

Only your first (original) vote will count towards any saves or (*gasp*) blams you may obtain, but both votes from last night and this morning will count towards pushing flash towards the checkpoints. The faster we get them through, the sooner wyou'll get your BPs.

Forum: Where is / How to?

Whistles levels operate the same way as XP levels, they are both static and dynamic with respect to whomever happens to have the most points.

Whomever has the most Whistle Points is the Deity. In the same way that there can be multiple level 30s when two or more people have the same amount of XP, there can also be mutliple Deities, but it is impossible for users to know the actual values required for any given Whistle Level. On two occassions (might be 3, I always forget) Joe and ramagi had Deity level simultaneously.

The amount needed to become Gold is known to be dynamic with respect to the Deity's total points, and is an extremely high percentage of their points; at least 50% and probably 75%. As such, there can be 0, 1, 2, or 400 Gold Whistles, providing enough people have a sufficient number of Whistle Points to qualify for Gold.

The amount needed to become Silver is believed to be static, as no one is known to fall from Silver to Bronze through mere inactivity. This is a fairly low amount as, when backlogged flags are finally processed, it is not uncommon for people to skip Bronze entirely and find themselves moving from Normal directly to Silver. Think of this as XP level 9, although it might be 10.

The amount needed to become Bronze is known to be static and is an extremely small amount; perhaps 10 points. Think of this as XP level 4 or 5.

Normal is a range of ponits +/- around 0, perhaps -5 to 9. Think of this as XP level 1.

Garbage can only be achieved by bad flagging, and having points removed after flaggings are processed.

Each Whistle level has a Whistle Power, similar to Vote Power, inherent in each individual's flagging. Garbage counts for 0, and is simply a way for people to get themselves in deeper trouble or get back up to normal. Normal whistles have a range of something like 0-0.5, Bronze from 0.5-1.0, Silver from 1.0-2.0, Gold from 2.0-3.0, and Deity 3.0. At one time my WP was 1.61, but I'm sure it's slipped down below 1.10 by now lol

Flagged flash need X number of Whistle Power cast against it to set it aside for review, Malicious needing significantly fewer points than the other two categories for it to be removed from the Portal. Flagged reviews need to get to a certain value, or perhaps simply a certain number of votes, before they are brought to the attention of the Review Mods, but are not removed from view until reviewed and only if the Mod deems it to be sufficiently bad.

Although there is no way to lose experience points, there is a way to lose Whistle Points. The only way to lose Whistle Points is to unnecessarily flag flash or reviews. This is the only way to drop from Bronze to Normal or Normal to Garbage, and is believed to be the only way to drop from Silver to Bronze.

It is also believed that flagging a flash earns more points than flagging a review. To my knowledge, this has never been confirmed nor denied by liljim & company. It makes sense that a flash would earn you (or cost you in the case of bad flagging) more points, as it is more difficult to be able to flag a flash that is only in the Portal for 30 minutes than to flag a review that is available for flagging for days or weeks. Just because it makes sense doesn't make it true, so take that with a grain of salt.

Yeah, so umm ... whoops! So I went back to Germany for the Final. After that I started hanging out with Kerstin in Leipzig, then stuck around for Love Parade in Berlin, then decided to make a side trip to Budapest to hang out with some friends of mine who happened to be there, and then well, Kess is that cute so I kind of kept missing my plane ... Six time zones difference definitely qualifies for the "geographically undesireable" classification, but I'm having a hard time giving a shit.

My German was "so-so" before I left, and is a step or two above "decent" now. My current running joke is: they say that, "the best way to learn a language is through immersion." It's actually a close second to, "trying to chat up a really hot woman who doesn't speak any Englisch." You learn in a mighty big fucking hurry =)

Ah well, at least it means I'll be up early tomorrow so we can chat between her shifts. While I wait for her, I'll start going through the old posts looking for the star pacers and playing catch up on them. Maybe I'll even get Nameless back in the 100 in the next week or two lol

Hehehe, OOOOPS!! After I ran into my 50th person asking me when I was heading back to Germany for the last games of the Cup, I finally said "Today", went home and started buying plane tickets. My connection has (again) been spotty while I've been here, so haven't been able to get any of these up until now. No game tickets for this go, just a lot of shots from the Fan Mile during and after the Final.

You can see the rest at my site, or just go directly to the Fan Mile pages. Second link will be broken once I get home and start being able to move them into the People section, but that's going to be at least another week.

I'll waste my 4/hour posting a few. Had to hack them down a bit to get them under the 50kb limit. First for the boys:

The US had no strong midfielders to even attempt to control or direct play. Donovan is the "best" the US has and I just don't like him. To my knowledge, he's never said or done anything wrong, I just never liked him from the first time I saw him. He didn't do anything right in the Cup either, so my opinion has not been improved. Even beyond him, the overall play was uninspired, slogging defense looking for a breakaway ... which works if you don't constantly fuck up your passes and fail on your offside traps 75% of the time. IMO most of he blame should go to Arena, for what they did, and FIFA's ranking system, for what was expected of them

They're actually playing like they want to win now. Much better than I expected, though I still don't see them progressing to the Final. Friday's match against Argentina should be one of the better of the tournament, no matter who wins. I'll be rooting for Deutschland, but I don't see them pulling it off with Lehman in front of the net.

Mexico is one of those teams that you look at and think that they deserve a top finish, if not actually winning the Cup. A goal like that though, dream shot ...

So props to Mexico for giving Argentina one hell of a battle and props to Argentina for winning what was a tough game for them.

Probably the best summation of what this is all supposed to be about, though I'd have to say that this is the toughest challenge since they faced Brazil in qualifying ... unlike the Portugal-Netherlands crap where they just picked up where they left off at the Euro 2004 brawl.

Why is everybody so optimistic about Germany? I didn't even think we'd get past the group stage (or what ever that's called in English).

Group Stage/Group Round/Group Phase ... all the same really. Save for Ecuador, we had a pretty weak group and odds were we'd make it out to the 16, but I don't see us making it past Argentina without some truly inspired play. Podu was great yesterday, but everyone will have to step it a notch or three to win.

Yeah, but after that brawl ... err game, Portugal is down two starters for at least 1 game and has half a dozen players carrying yellow. Didn't one of their guys catch a 4 match ban off a red as well? No telling if Ronaldo will be fit either. I won't say it will be a walk in the park, but the edge is definitely to England for Saturday's match.

Outrageous.
Have to agree, once again the refereeing ruined what was potentially a great game. It's been ridiculous in this tournament.

This is the worst I've seen it. Robben going up for a header in the box and getting kicked in the shoulder and the ref making NO CALL was utterly ridiculous. With everything else that was getting carded, how was that not even a foul? Half of both teams should have been tossed for those altercations, but hopefully FIFA, UEFA, or both will at least follow up and hand out some sanctions and fines for it. Bad officiating only made things worse.

And that for me was absolute foul, just foul. I have seen losing teams with 5 minutes left to play give the ball back to the other team. It was a big disgrace that act of shit. Am I wrong?

Not in the least. I gaped at the TV when I saw him make a run and finally managed to yell, "what the fuck do you think you're doing?" right before they tackled him. Quite frankly, he deserved that hit ... and the stern talking to that Portugal was giving him while he was on the ground.

The Holland players' reaction, pushing them away from him, was understandable, but they could have handled it soooo much better. Instead they earned a couple extra yellows while Deco got his second, and all because Heitinga decided to be a nitwit.

Long gone. Czech Republic handed them their asses back in Group, and their best result was a 1-1 tie against Italy. They ramped up their play against Ghana but it was too little too late and still got beat, so now they are back in the States watching it on TV.

Go back to page 2 or 3 when I was trying to see how I did against a FIFA re-rank; these people are as bad (or worse) than the BCS. Among other goofiness, Czech played Turkey and tied. For that match, Czech lost 4 points and Turkey lost 3 ...

It wasn't exactly meaningless. If Japan had managed to hold on and win, while Australia lost or tied, Japan could have been through. My hope was that Japan won and Australia won by a lot (enough to make up their 3 goals behind Brasil), making Australia first in Group and sending Brasil to the other bracket. Pipe dream it was, but one had to hope.

The game we all expected to be (one of) the best Group games went out with a whimper.

Rankings were last done in mid-May, and won't be re-done util mid-July. They held off in June as the pre-cursors to the Cup and the Cup itself were about to begin, and are waiting until the Monday after the Cup is over to tally up the results of the last couple of months. Even when they do that, see my comments above for how little you should trust the rankings.

seriously.. most international sports have points system but it resets with the world cup.

Nothing resets. Matches from 8 years ago are still factored into the point total, expiring as time moves on. When this Cup is over and they redo the rankings, all of the rankings from Cup '98 will expire ... so expect France to take a huge point and ranking hit, even if they do manage to make it out of Group this Cup.

At 6/23/06 07:41 AM, JesseRay wrote:
Also how did USA score 7th I think it was in the FIFA world rankings, commercial ploy or what?

They made it as high as 4th back in April. What happened was that 8 year expiration bit affected Argentina more (dropping from 4 to 8) than it affected US, Mexico, and Spain, by retiring more points from Argentina than it did from the others while not replacing it with new points earned in April ... since pretty much no one played anyone. Going from April to May, Mexico had no points retired, but the US did, so US slipped a rank below Mexico. It will be only slightly less nonsensical after the Cup is over.

I always root for Nederland, but they've yet to actually play a full game. With today's game, I'd have been better off watching the Côte d'Ivoire-S&M match with Argentina-Hollan in PIP than the other way around. I sat in the stadium in Leipzig and watched them play a good 30 minutes, after which they sat back and tossed off for the rest of the match. Against Ghana, they played a great half ... then tossed off for the second. This time around they played a good second half. Against Portugal, thay are going to need to play a full game for the first time this tournament and one can only hope they finally bother to do so ... because unless Japan pulls off an amazing upset while Australia wins sunstantially over South Korea, Holland is in the same bracket as Brasil. "Eins ist genug," ist jetzt nicht genug. That kind of play and thought process will see them out in short order.

Tomorrow should see some brilliant games, as any mistake can cost any team a chance to go the next round. My verdict is that Ghana and Italy should clear through, barely.

Ghana has been playing some amazing football this tournament. After the US-Czech match, we were hanging out in an Irish pub in Gelsenkirchen with a bunch of Americans watching the Italy-Ghana match. They were all rooting for Ghana, of course, and there were also quite a few Italian fans there as well. By the end of the match, even the Italian fans were rooting for Ghana to at least score a goal .... not to win, mind you, but to at least score. US stepped up their play to "merely mediocre" against Italy and will have to do substantially better than that to survive Ghana. Ghana wants this match win, and you've yet to see that from the US side. Czech played a great game against the US, but folded against Ghana, and will likely rebound to turn Italy-Czech into a good matchup.

The match I'm really waiting for is the Togo-France game. If Togo at least ties, it doesn't matter what happens between Switzerland and South Korea ... France goes home muahaha

Who it is likely we'll play in the quarters if we get past Ecuador, anyone know?

Argentina is a good bet, but still open. Argentina or Holland out of C and Portugal, Mexico, or Angola out of D will play and winner plays winner of England-Ecuador

~piffle~ posting the link was apparently an utter waste. Sorry, I'm not destroying my pictures from the Cup matches by dropping them to under 50k for posting here.

Am Morgen ist der Oranje Tag, so muß ich schlafen. Tschüß :-P~~~
