All samples are under the creative commons licence (They can be used for whatever you want). They are all recorded at 44,000hz at ether 16 or 24bt. There's various loops, hits and some musical phrases in there too.

Response to: Mastering Posted January 22nd, 2009 in Audio

im on about mastering within your DAW, before exporting. not sending an audio off for someone else to master.plus even then its not onley just eq and compression, there are more ways to alter the final audio. take the beatles that used tape processing and layering to there final audio masters.

i usually master while im mixing but i suppose its a fine art that can be done in different ways. i know a few different guys from other local studios that do their mastering compleatly different than me or eachother.

Response to: Ear Training Posted January 22nd, 2009 in Audio

people are getting confused between recognising melodys and being pitch perfect.

the best way to recognise melody or chords is to learn theroy, its takes a few years to learn everything but when youve got the knolage youll know what your hearing and wont take you long to work stuff out

pitch perfect if where you can sing any note your given perfectly in tune without listening to it beforehand.

Response to: Mastering Posted January 22nd, 2009 in Audio

Mastering....

why is it that everyone assumes mastering is just adding EQ, compression and a few fancy effects.

Mastering is just geting the quality of your final mix to the best level possible by making sure: all of your levels are at there highest without peaking/clipping [otherwise when its turned up too loud it will distort], everything fits nicley in the mix [nothings too overpowering], adding final effects to your tracks [this is where your compression and eq come in], adding master effects[an effect added to the whole mix via the "Master" channel on your mixer] and adding any little final touches to your final mix before exporting it.

All this takes time and practice, but is well worth it in the end =].

However, i do use masting suites likeTrackS while mixing and mastering. to add that extra bit of shine or warmth to the mix.

sorry if this sounded like a rant, but i had to say it haha.

Response to: What to do if you're out of ideas Posted January 19th, 2009 in Audio

There are many ways to spark the mind.
heres a few i find usefull...

-Mess arround with a synthersizer. try making yourself a new patch or preset something you can use.

-sort out samples/audio files. Not onley with this help tidy but one of the samples might spark some insperation

-look on the internet for free vst instruments [KVR etc.]. if you get something new you will naturally want to try it out, and write a few bars see how it sound. even if its not useable, what youve written may help with a intro, chorus, verse etc.

-listen to your older stuff that youve already listened to

-put the tv on in the background [hopefully something that wont destract you]

theres plenty more but try these.

let me know if this helps anyone =D
