Just messing with you, yeah its good just the only thing that bugs me (and this is just created by my imagination) when donkey kong jumps, he kinda pops up, make sure you make it look like he's actually jumping!!!

Again, thats what i imagine happens from his stance in the air, don't take the previous sentences really seriously, i mean i haven't even SEEN the game haha.

Looks good ^_^ try to add elements that seperates it from all of the other donkey kong games :P Originality = better in the portal methinks

HEHE! Yea, I have had a lot of issues with the jumping. But with some help from zedd the character can even doublejump. As for the animation, I could have done it a lot better.
But this is actually my first platform, so I wont make it anymore advanced ;)

As for something that seperates it from donkeykong country. I just made a new boss. Its just in pieces now, but it will look something like this.

I would say trials and error. You wont be able to do such nice things on your first try, thats the fact.

Also it is good to learn by others. To watch other flashmovies etc. I remember that "THE TOILET BOYS" are doing some nice lipsyncs ;)

From memory the SmartFox server ate system/server resources but I could be mistaken about this.

Very nice information there. Have always wondered on how it actually work. I know that if I'm gonna try it one day, I will have to start of very very small and read a lot about it. But it is actually my biggest dream to do a game where you can play against each others via the network

Response to: My First Game Posted September 5th, 2008 in Game Development

It is nice controlls. Tho, if you would like to know how you can jump under a platform and land on top of it (like in the old supermatio-style games, you can ask me). : )

Nice with the enemy AI also

Hiya folks!

And thanks for the intrests. There won't be any demo. But the whole game will come out this weekend and it will be free for everyone to play of course =)

I will let some friends betatest it tomorrow. If you would like to be a part of the testing, I would be very very glad. Just add me on messenger (Peter_Strandb86@hotmail.com).

HIYA zedd = D
Yes, actually it is. You will find out that I have used your help in many parts of this game.

Hmm yea it is true =) But at least I have drawn them myself with some guide of some pictures. Really love flash drawingtool ^^

In the end of this weekend it will come. Doing the last epic bossfight now =)

Otter?

The graphics are alright. Got a playable demo?

Yea! Thats the correct word of the animal : D Those who live in water.

As for the DEMO. I thought of it when I started the creation. Like...I do one boss and then I announce the demo. But it was so much fun to create it so I decided to do a little bit more, and it kept going like this.

#As for now I got 2 different enemies, one pretty easy which gives low exp and one though which gives more exp
#Different skills which you can learn for exp and gold such as TORNADOSWING and MEGASWING and BANANASHIELD.
#Have made a familiar (a little bananafee) who gives you bananapower once in a while.
# 4 different quests to complete
2 bosses

So actually. My game is soon done : ) (wont be that long)

I would like to have a tutorial about how to do a simple defend the castle game. Like the ones that you are clicking on enmies to die. The problem for me is that I can't find a good way for the enemies to spawn

I always thought that the meaning of projects and schoolwork is actually to learn something from it. I guess you won't learn that much if you let me do the movie

Thank you so much for the comments. I also agree with the original thing. The thing is that I have done nearly every enemy now, and I dont think I will redo them. But when it comes to my next game I will think about it.

The bosses are not original tho. I made a bearlike boss and a uther boss? :P (dont know if the english word for the swedish "UTTER" is uther eheh :P)

As what I can see of your code, everything seems to be normal. Tho, doublecheck if you are writing in AS2.0. Couse the code will look different in both 1.0 and 3.0

Picture of my first game Posted September 2nd, 2008 in Game Development

Hello there.

I am currently working with my first actually platform/RPG game, which will be called KONGA RPG (a Donkey Kong country retro-like game, but with level and skills and such) :P

As for now, I have done some types of enemies which you can fight, some quests and even a Boss. Things are going nice and I added a picture for you to see.

I know a picture isn't much. I mean you must test a game to see how it is. But still, a picture says more then 1000 words.

So, what do you think? =)

Make sure that you have made the right instancenames. It is usually the problem...even for PROgrammers

Response to: 2 small time questions Posted September 2nd, 2008 in Game Development

I use linear colour when doing a hp bar. Etc for a fightinggames or for enemies

Response to: I heard this was the place to come Posted September 2nd, 2008 in Game Development

I am really good on thse kind of games. Have done plenty of games where the goal is to find different ways to torture ppl. Like for example bang a door into their heads and lit a dynamite under their feets.

Response to: Is it possible? Posted August 31st, 2008 in Game Development

All depends on how you do it. You can do a ponglike game which lags, and a starcraft game which float smooths on nearly all machines and systems. "The prawlings track you down" ;)

That looks like it is working, but it isn't. Don't use that.

lol, it worked for me?

Does anyone know how to make it where a button is unable to be pressed on a MC? I've tried to figure this out for the past two weeks but, nothing is working. If you can help it will be gladly smiled upon. Thanks.

Example :
A key cannot be pressed.
C key cannot be pressed.

well, I don't actually know why you should do that. I mean...if you dont got any actions on it, it's like it is not being pressed.

otherwise you may use on your clip event
while not a key is pressed (keycode for a)

I get ya
Im probably going to have pretty complicated 'movieclip inside a movieclip inside a movieclip ...' structure anyway since its the only way i know.

Yea, just you remember where everything is. I have done a spaceshooter game when followed a tutorial in a book thich I bought. In that book, the creator was using array in order for the enemies to spawn. I thought it was a pretty clever idé

Hello there!

I got this little platformgame I am working on.

The tutorial I am following is this one: http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx2004/p latform_game.htm

The thing is that I would like different spawnpoints for the char depending on if a value is true or false - so I came up with an idéa that the "attackMovie" thing would be perfect. Well, it is attaching the movieclip, but not the code for it. I cant controll my character with the keys etc etc.

I am using this code
if(_root.left1 ==true){
attachMovie("char", "char", 10, {_x:300, _y:300});
}

Maybe there is no way to export code which I have written inside a MovieClip?

Dynamic Text Question Posted August 28th, 2008 in Game Development

Hello everyone!

I got a simple and tiny little questions about a dynamic textfield - it is for my RPG.

A got a dynamic textfield which shows my characters currernt hp. When I get hit by a certain enemy I would like the HP to decrese by 1.5.

Is there a way for the textfield to show only "whole" numbers...98, 96, 59 etc, not like 98.6, 96.6, 59,2 etc etc.

Very thankful for an answer =))

That should work. Try:

trace(Key.getCode());

to see which key is down.

Also, certain keys won't register inside Flash if they're shortcut keys, so either disable their shortcuts or try testing it in the standalone player.

Thank you for your reply=) I tested the trace(Key.getCode());, but that only makes me see which button is pressed (as you said ofc).

I did see that keycode for 'i' is 78.
I can't just write if (Key.78) - this will give me an error.
and if I write if ( 78) - nothing will happen.

Anyone who know something about this? :P

Key Code question. Thanks =) Posted August 26th, 2008 in Game Development

Hello everyone! =)

Now I got another problem. I feel sorry for you asking so much...really, but in another way - asking is one of the best ways of learning something ;)

OK!

I got this code:

onClipEvent (keyUp) {
//when a key is turning up
if (Key.getCode() == Key.CONTROL) {
attacking = false;
}
}

This works good for me. The thing is, that I want to use the Ket 'Z' for this function. I know that the keycode for it is 89 so I have tried:
if (Key.getCode() == 78) {
if (78) {
if (==78) {

...but nothing seems to work good :S Anyone who got some clues? =P
