Well, if you watch a CG movie, or play a video game, the characters are well made, the textures are smooth and all. But when there is an explosion, it looks anything else than an explosion. The sound FX will try to cover it up, but when it that obvious it does not act physically similar to a real explosion (not about the graphics, the physics) it tends to make the hard work look crappy.

Thats the reason why I'm hoping for better explosions, in the near future. I'm personally betting on Rockstar's RAGE engine to give this.

Really they do. Even in CG 3D movies, explosions still suck. I hope they don't suck too bad with the new generation consoles, although thats a far fetched hope.

2D games lives on too. Most people thought they were dead when 3D games hit the streets-but-they live! The solid proof is in Newgrounds, where 2D flash games rule.
