Topic: Consoles Pros and Cons

Posted: 06/05/08 12:00 AM

Forum: Video Games

Nintendo Wii:
Pros:
Fun, unique, and quite cheap compared to other consoles. Great first party games, little to no repetition (I don't like FPS' anymore, there're too many). Rather large install base. Suda 51 seems to be teaming up with Nintendo, which will result in many great games. (No More Heroes<3) Strong hardware, I don't know how they do it.

Cons: 3rd party developers won't touch it with a fifty foot pole, apparently most developers require an analog two analog sticks to get anything done. Ubisoft is continually littering the console with absolute crap and crappy ports. No honest graphical power (sure it's acceptable, but not outstanding), Tremendously easy games. Less than desirable online (but I think they're planning to fix it a little bit, like Mario Kart, where if you're friend has you're Wii friend code, you're added to their friends list ingame automatically.)

XBox 360

Pros: A ton of great games, fantastic graphics, solid controls to most games. Rareware (pro or con, don't really know, they haven't done anything lately, just have to see how Banjo Kazooie goes.) Easy menus, customizable everything. Very strong online.

Cons:
If you are a PC buff, you don't really need a 360, like, at all. RRoD. No Blu-Ray, which has beaten out
HD DVD, the CD used for 360 games. Only console which charges for online.

PS3:
Pros:
Very powerful, incoming games look solid and probably enjoyable... I got nothing else since I don't own one.

Cons:
Not sure if this is true, but can only perform one process at a time (can't play your music while playing a game) Expensive, few exclusive titles at the moment. That's all I got.

Topic: Why I Don't Like Halo.

Posted: 06/04/08 11:28 PM

Forum: Video Games

Halo is fun to play online with friends. Playing online without is like entering kindergarten, only all of the kids have been taught to swear and scream beyond natural limitations. But, so long as you're with friends you can have a nice discussion and make the little bastards cry. (I've done it, it's hilarious.)

That's the only redeeming factor for Halo, since no one picked it up for it's singleplayer. Developers new that and practically threw singleplayer down the crapper.

Overall, I believe that Halo is a solid shooter, but no more than that. There's nothing special or spectacular about it. Whereas games like COD4 came out with fantastic controls and well paced gameplay + strategy (if you're into that, like me). The best strategy I've seen in Halo is grab the rocket launcher/ shotgun/ sword.

Hi guys, I'm back, after a long, long break. RP's started and nobody's mentioned Nocte yet. This gives me some freedom which I so enjoy.
________________________________________

_________

Nocte castle's gritty stone walls echoed with the sound of clashing metal. The king and his right hand, Kaleb stood in the main tower watching the losing battle.
" My men are ill-prepared, bandits have begun attacking more frequently and all that remain are iron swords and spears. Half my forces are forced to use weapons they have not trained with..." The king clasped his hands over his face, weeping.
Kaleb handed the king his handkerchief, " I wouldn't cry if I were you, your men look to you for support in times of crisis. Besides, our men are of a higher class than the bandits. Even iron can overcome silver if the wielder is fast and deadly, our men are."
" Thank you, Ka-"
" Besides, I can always get out of here while they're torturing you."
" Right..."
Kaleb stepped up to the window and leaped out with his dark blue robe flowing behind him.

He landed with a soft thud, the bandits hadn't heard him, and were not attacking him. The bandits were attacking from the south, their black rags barely visible under the light of the moon. A horrible stench invaded Kaleb's nostrils. What? They can't be rotting already? Unless, oh shit...
Kaleb immediately cast a Nosferatu on the nearest bandit, who collapsed without so much as a squeak. Kaleb rushed to the fallen soldier, the stench crushing his state of mind, damn near blinding him. He reached down to remove the bandit's armor closing his nose with his left hand.

Kaleb began to pull the mask away slowly, a gruesome squelching sound came from the body. The bandit's flesh had molded into the mask, the skin coming off with it. Kaleb tossed the mask to the side and stared at the corpse.

"Thought so," he muttered, chuckling under his breath "We've almost been overthrown by one necromancer and his cannon fodder." Kaleb stood and turned to the troops. "Everyone, retreat into the castle! All spearmen are to defend the entrances, with swordsmen to back them!"
Reluctantly, the remaining troops retreated into the castle as instructed.
"Besides, I don't want you guys to see this." Kaleb jumped back, casting nosferatu rapidly to clear some room. You think you can defeat us with your petty undead bandits? I'll admit you've got range and potential, but you're out of your league kid. "Mamoru Necro!"

Have you ever considered buying (or downloading) FE7? As far as I'm concerned it's one of the very best Fire Emblems to date. With perfect challenge, not like Sacred Stones which was too easy or GoD which was painfully hard if you weren't careful.

Naturally tastes will differ, but I'm seeing that you like strategy and rhythm games. So, I'd say a DS is a very good choice, what with the "new" FE, Advance Wars, Elite Beat Agents, etc. So, yeah.

Why would you mention Pong? It's unfathomable.

Let me put it this way, you'll spend more money renting it than you will by buying it. It's very long and frustrating. Especially on hard.

I DID IT!!! That last chapter pissed me off (with it's lies), I noticed that once the barrier goes down she's not supposed to have Nihil, it's not in her skill window. Of course, she does have it and ruins one more attempt. Then I find out I have to win with Ike otherwise she keeps reviving. I killed her seven times before I figured this out. God!

POSSIBLE SPOILERS (Sorry Twilight)

More monster units, Tauroneo (Adept + Luna + Resolve= Awesome)
and Haar...the skills don`t even matter and you know it.
Still Ike and Mia. Now Soren and Gatrie, the extra 2 attack and defence is critically important for Gatrie to kill anything and remain unscathed. In the meantime, because they were unlucky Edward (the enemy hit him with a 13 percent chance) and Zihark (who recieved no training) have died. But things are still looking pretty good.

Yeah, well I trudged my way through that level, making sure to keep Edward alive if nobody else (Leonardo, whom I hate so much). In any case, the "special" weapons you gain before that level... Why do they suck? Rolf's bow should not be more useful than Daien's super special weapon extraordinaire, too bad it is.

Moving on, Part 3 chapter 11. Starting this level is like a blast of pure relief. I get a ton of gold, now I can finally equip my units with something other than iron, like 20000 bonus experience so class ups all around. Good times.

By the way, what's your best support this time around? I teamed up Ike and Mia so I have +23 avoid, which makes Ike a monster like in the days of PoR and makes Mia impossible to hit. I'm so proud of them.

Which mode are you playing? I'm playing normal on chapter3 part 3. Didn't lose anyone yet. But I didn't talk to that rouge...

Chapter 3 part 2 on normal. Lost Lethe... how was I supposed to know she'd attack people in her human form. (When you don't control her.) I'm not trying to keep characters alive this time around anyway. Just wanna get it done. But I do wish the support conversations from PoR were back, they were so much more enjoyable than in every other game.

I'll just retrieve one of my characters from the unfinished RP.
Name: Kaleb Grenwold, from
Level 16 Summoner(or Necromancer, whatever sprite I used before)
Physical: Y'know what? Here.
Age: 28, 210 lbs 6''5'
Mental: A jokester/trickster at heart, but has a calm and collective mind. He can see through most people to figure out whether or not they will betray him. Basically, he knows when he's doing the wrong thing but will usually stick around just to watch the plan fail. He loves to fight, and can often predict the enemy's battle plan.
Weapons: Fenrir, Nosferatu
Items: Elixir x3, Ashera icon
Weapon skill: A (dark magic)

Just got Radiant Dawn, I don't like how near the beginning, everybody has to live. Quite frankly, I could do without Leonardo, he's weak. Anyway, one of Micaiah's spells near the beginning is, well, really friggin' scary. Taking out opposing leaders in one hit. Just, wow.

I disagree, you can't recruit for a club that (as of now) has nothing keeping it going, except for persistence. It's best not to recruit people during our down time, they'll leave, and when the game comes out, they won't bother to return. We'd lose members in the long run.

I didn't much like either title, neither one really means anything. Radiant Dawn, referring to a dawn that is radiant, (imagine) makes no sense to me. I've seen dawn and it's anything but radiant, nor does it fit in with the idea of war. Goddess of Dawn, well, that's one unhappy goddess, I tell you what.

Now, the issue of nationalizing the title, how is it we can't have have a title acronym to GOD but we can have an Assist Trophy in the new Smash bros. entitled "Devil". Only in North America is he known as devil, everywhere else he's been changed to demon. What the hell?

Not yet, a co-leader or full leader (whom we haven't seen in a long time) must first grant you permission to join. However, you have very slim chances unless you fix your grammar and punctuation, which is one of the few rules we have here. As well as a demand for roughly one line posts (ten words, minimum).

Twilight, of course I'd naturally want to be a co-leader, and I believe we are in need of an active one (assuming Kuro isn't more active than I think) so I'm inclined to say that this would be a good idea.
Of course I do plan on nominating myself, I'm always around (1:00 am in particular) and I do seem to deal with the new members regularly, until a co-leader shows up. Besides, I'm the most senior member who's still active. (Along with Yghrulez who joined one day before myself.)
