I just meant I believe it could run at 60 FPS.
Since Youtube's player only runs at 30 that's all I'd see no matter what.
Currently my 3D engine is faster, and uses less CPU than Away3D when it comes to rendering large amount objects.
But it lacks A LOT of features Away3D has... So I can't really compare the two. :/
Well if you guys get some more stuff done, I might just try creating my own textures and models myself.
That's the good thing about open source...
Make it easy to mod and people will mod it.

I didn't say it is one.
Well I'm not sure how far the game is at the moment, I'm just going off of the video you've made.sorry about the framerate in the vid; I promise it's 60 FPS all the way, even on "best" quality.
There was just terrain and floating planets...
So far I don't know where you'd put any art. XD
What style are you going for with the game?
Yeah, for now it's terrain and floating planets (and a skybox) - but honestly that's all I need for testing my code, so that's all I put down.
The terrain will be randomly generated. I was thinking something like this for all terrain morphing, including diggy diggy hole (yay, Yogscast references :P)
i'll let Alexander explain the style, he's much more familiar with the concept than I am (I haven't yet read through the entire design doc, but i'm working on it)
Randomly generated terrain using height map?
That link shows height maps, but you can't do things like tunnels with height maps.
Did you expect to not have things like tunnels?
I believe it was running at 60 FPS stage3D can do quite a bit.
Also I meant art style, incase you thought I meant something else.

As for the .doc, it is in no way up to date or complete. I'll get on that post haste.
I just meant that you're presenting it as a 'Minecraft clone'.
I didn't say it is one.

Once I get that done, i'll pretty much be waiting on the design. I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to get someone else involved so we can have some models :3
Maybe if you guys got SOME gameplay parts partially finished, I would try to contribute.
Not that I'm amazing at 3D art myself, but I plan to get better.
But since you guys say this project is open source if anyone is interested in it they could swap the models with their own and release them at any time.
So what are you looking for to be complete, exactly? I can probably pull it off by tonight, i've already got it all set up and ready to go.

I understand what you mean by having a game like Minecraft basically built in flash, but only flash developers would care about that.

Also in later Flash Player versions adobe should release new 'Hardware-oriented numeric types'.
These should use less memory (Actionscript Next).
But who knows when that will come out.
I feel like you're trying to make this game just because you like Minecraft and Terraria.
What unique features would you add that Minecraft and/or Terraria doesn't already have?
I glanced over your 'Miner_design.doc' file and noticed a lot of obvious "THINK TERRARIA!!!"...
You might be able to make this project exactly how you want it...
But is it your project, or someone else's?
Also you should probably just keep adding placeholder art until you've developed the game further.
To anyone who watches the video they just see perfectly flat terrain and a couple of small planets...
And you probably see a great game growing.
I'm trying not to sound rude, but It's sort of hard to when you're criticizing someones work.
Sorry if it sounds that way.
Sorry for the double post, but...
This link explains what I'm talking about (sort of).
Except I'm using Adobe Flash CS5.5, and I don't know how to do it in Flash CS5.5. :(
Try this.
Type " loader.addEvent ".
When the code hinting searches and selects for addEventListener, hit enter.
You should get new code hinting with a list of events.
Is your custom event there?
You'll notice with most API's it'll show a list of the events you can use with the class.
I've got all that setup already (I think), because it dispatches the event I made correctly.
I meant it doesn't show up in the AddEventListener() function's code hints.
When I use other actionscript API's you can see events the class you're trying to add the events to "accepts", or is "related to".
For me it just shows Event.ACTIVATE and Event.DEACTIVATE.
If you can still help me it would be awesome. :)
Hi!
I've made a custom event class named LoaderEvent, and its working correctly ( I believe ).
I have a class named Loader3D that extends EventDispatcher.
My question is how can I get my custom event (LoaderEvent) to show up on my Loader3D's AddEventListener function?
I know t's possible, but I don't exactly know how to make it happen.
This has been bugging me quite a bit.
I hope i get a quick reply.
And thanks anyone who decides to help!
Trust me, I hate watermarks too.
People do steal though.
It's not my fault.
I understand the generic feel, but thats every asset I've made so far.
I want the game to look rich. As if there is always something to look at.
That can only happen in time though.
There are animations you aren't seeing too.
Fireflies buzzing around the fire.
Grass/flowers blowing in the wind.
Swirly thing in the portal is spinning...
How many good flash games can you name that have a great look, and have a lot of animations/action?
The whole simple thing I don't agree with though, but I will take into consideration.
Look at castle crashers.
Castle Crashers Screenshot
It uses simple colors, and doesn't load it's game up with detail other than the repeated same art (Like the barbarians).
It's still a great game to look at.
The background I want to blur as it gets farther, and that background was something I drew up in 3 minutes.
I want the background to almost come from the foreground, and into the background.
That way it looks like it isn't just this flat 2D world, and it looks like there is more out there.
Just enough, while still being able to easily separate the foreground from the background.
If that makes sense...
If you got any specific things you'd think I should fix, I'll do it!
I'm trying to make a game other people enjoy to play, and to look at.
Thats why I made this post.
Thanks for some good answers!

Thanks!
I've seen all of the Brackenwood stuff, it's great.
The lighting is actually dynamic.
I can put up about 200 lights with CPU around 5% I think at 30 FPS.
Someone has stolen my game art before, and has used it in a game of their own.
Thats the reasoning behind the watermark...
Art form SEEMS like a lot of stuck up people who just +1 their post count.
Which is why I don't usually discuss art with other artists...
At least MajesticBob could get half way on topic.
Anyway...
The game I was thinking about would just be a puzzle platformer.
Thats about it, at least for now.
The screenshots just something i put together made up of all of the modular art assets.
It's just a concept of an idea I have.
I'll take it off if there is just going to be a continuous complaint about it.
Sorry about it.
Hey!
Just wanted to get others opinions on my game's art, and style.
I'm a bit harsh on myself when it comes to what I make, so I sort of rely on others opinions...
Maybe you could just rate it from 1-10 compared to flash games you've seen, or played.
Here's a screenshot.
Sorry for the "Do not Steal".
Also animation like Gamer Tonight is actually pretty easy because there actually isn't too much movement.
My hard drive actually decided to give up not to recently, so I don't have too much animation to show, and no animation thats not a character in an upcoming game I'm developing.
That means if I was to actually show you any animation, it would probably have to be something I make just to show you what I'm capable of.
I might do something tomorrow, but if I don't you probably can just forget about me and move on.
I don't think that reply really answered my question...
So...
Would you consider those videos to have no major flaws?
Also is there a deadline, or is it ok as long as it gets done in a decent time frame (which would be how long?)?
How long do you expect a 3 minute animation to take?
I'm interested, but I'm not sure about accepting a "contract" at the moment.
Are you just expecting the animation/art to be as good as the videos you've shown us in these videos?
Ahh.. Lee Briemlow blogged about it, and I didn't notice?
I guess thats what I get for starting a project before researching certain things (and using Box2D)...
Box2D is surprisingly buggy for how long it was around.
I'll check out NAPE.
No matter when I need help, Newgrounds is always there for me. :)
What's the best 2D physics engine thats actually still getting updated?
I think Box2D isn't getting updates for flash anymore.
Ouch!
He "quit" on you already?
Should've gone with me, but now I'm working with another artist.
I hope you find someone.
I've already found an artist guys, but thanks for posting. :P
Well I was kinda looking for an artist that knows what he wants to make.
Then I would just make it come to life.
So if you're an artist with a game idea, I can help.
Hello!
I'm a programmer, and I've been trying to find an artist, so we can make a game and some profit.
I'm fine with 50/50 split in revenue.
If you're an artist that knows what game you would like to make, and if you have art already made or an idea, that would be a great bonus.
I've been coding in actionscript for a couple of years, and I'm pretty sure I can cover anything you want to do in your game including physics/3D (Just Box2D and Alternativa3D which is free), just as long as its possible in flash.
Also 3D is limited in flash at the moment, so its not like we'll be making a giant 3D game.
I myself don't have much to show as flash has mostly been a hobby I like to practice (constantly).
You'll just have to trust I can do it.
You don't have to be an AMAZING artist, but please be good enough.
Please try not to make posts about how I have nothing to show. :P
I was wondering...
since only what is in the stage area is drawn, I was wondering what if half of an image is visible, does it draw the whole image or just the visible part?
I like it, but for me with a 2010 27" imac it lags like CRAZY with enemies.
Well at least could you answer this do you HAVE to have a high scores link?
And if its ok, how much money did one of your games make and which game?
Hey, I've never had a game sponsored and I thought i'd ask questions about the process of getting a game sponsored, if you'd be so kind to answer them.
First what type of sponsorship should I go for, and which would bring in the most money?
What website should I try to get the game sponsored by, or should I use a website like FlashGameLicense.com to find one?
Whats the most common method of payment? Paypal, check or what?
How much money should I expect from a game that would keep you playing for at least 15 minutes?
Would a small demo of the game be the best way to show it off?
Do sponsorships scam?
This post makes me sound so greedy.
I would rather code everything on the main timeline.
