I learned in my past experience, that if you trace a bitmap large enough ( I traced a whole 2855*6408 4MB sprite sheet, but this is an extreme example) you computer will have trouble doing it in the first place(10 - 15 min. for me), and after that the cpu, or ram or whatnot, will be so crammed with information that flash will be killed. Also if you put a couple sheets like that after removing their background in Photoshop( as opposed to tracing) flash will lag.
I suggest that you cut your larger sprite sheets into smaller, more accessible and more flash-friendly sheets. Also, DO NOT try to trace very large bitmaps ( even larger that those above) particularly if they have a plenty colors. ( My old computer once crashed :) )
