Fully agree with this.

That and dynamic features with the gameworld changing around you depending on what you do etc.

Also the standards of the AI dramatically affect my immersion in the game.

Ok Dynamic game world (on list) and SMART AI that can adapt to your tactics perhaps.

I've added Smart AI to my list, it'll take note of your tactics and adapt to them as time goes on :D

Thanks for the suggestion, this is really helping me plan this thing out.

Hmmm, so your decisions effect the outcome and the story of the game.

Great suggestion, added to my list :)

What makes a good RPG ? Posted January 2nd, 2014 in Video Games

I'm currently in the design phase of a RPG game that will be deployed onto the Android and possibly iOS platform/

What features makes a great RPG game ?

Combat System ? Story ? Exploration ? Open World ? Character Development ?

Also what little features did you notice in games that you really liked ?

What is your idea of a perfect RPG ?

Nexus 2: The Gods Awaken !!! Posted October 4th, 2012 in Video Games

Kickstarter for Nexus 2:

The sequel to Nexus: The Jupiter Incident is being funded on Kickstarter. The first Nexus was an amazing game that pushed the Sci-Fi gaming limits when it came out.

They even made a tech demo for a possible Nexus sequel 7 years ago that looks amazing even by today's standards:

I've already put some of my own funds towards this game's kickstarter. Go support NEXUS 2 !!!!!

Aha thanks i forgot about the _root. I haven't programmed in flash for ages. Thanks again.

Need Help With Mc Properties Posted December 11th, 2008 in Game Development

Hey just need a bit of help here. I'm trying to store an instance name in the "target" variable and then use the variable to call properties from a MC with the instance name "static_target".

This code is what i tried but doesnt work:
var target:String;
target = "static_target";
trace(target + " Is at coordinates " + [target]._x + ", " + [target]._y);

But if i change the trace to
trace(target + " Is at coordinates " + static_target._x + ", " + static_target._y);

I get the properties from the MC no problem but i want this bit of code to be flexible so that i can just put the instance name in the "target" variable and the rest of the code can do it for me.

Anyone know what i'm doing wrong ?

Response to: So, I am looking at laptops... Posted November 11th, 2008 in Game Development

Make sure you check what graphics chipset it has. If it has a crappy integrated Intel one with only shared memory then i'd avoid it. Try to get one with an Nvidia or a ATI chipset with some dedicated memory as well as being able to use shared memory.

This isn't really necessary for Flash if you're using XP but seen as most laptops are bundled with Vista you need some graphics power behind it otherwise it chugs a bit with general tasks. Also it means you can play some half decent games on it so win win.

Hope this helps.

Response to: Collaborative FeatureLength Concept Posted October 1st, 2008 in Game Development

I'm sorry to say this but i doubt you'll get a good response from NG. You basically want people to design and make this Flash for you. Are you going to pay them for it ? If not then you're not gonna find much help.

Response to: flash 8 outdated? Posted September 29th, 2008 in Game Development

To sum up this topic:
If ur just making animations Flash 8 is fine
Anything above would only benefit you if you're doing programming on a large scales e.g Games ect
I use CS3 for my animations but i switch the output to Flash 8 and AS 2 cause i learned AS 2 and i don't see the need to learn AS 3.
Finally as far as i can tell CS4 doesn't have any amazing features for a animator that would justify spending that much money on it.

Hope this helps.

Response to: Is a Wacom Bamboo good for flash? Posted September 11th, 2008 in Game Development

Make sure you get the Bamboo Fun you pay a little extra but the stylus comes with a eraser on the back and you get some bundled software. I've used mine for Flash, Photoshop and as a replacement for a mouse and its been wonderful to work with. It may look small but its big enough for flash work. I had a A4 trust tablet and even before it stopped working i'd prefer to use this smaller Wacom. So yeah go for it.

Response to: Tablet help Posted July 10th, 2008 in Game Development

Just use it for as many things as you can. Web browsing, photo editing, watching movies ect and after a few days it'll feel natural. But if you have a very low budget tablet then it may always be slightly awkward due to the technical limits.

Response to: Bamboo Posted July 10th, 2008 in Game Development

The bamboo Fun has an eraser on its stylus, the normal Bamboo doesn't. Also the Fun comes bundled with some more software and comes in 2 sizes small and medium and more colours. Finally the fun medium size comes with a mouse. I just got my Bamboo Fun yesterday, beats the hell outta my old Trust tablet.

Ohy...ya think??? Can we stop having these shitty-ass forum posts about mysterious users fuck!

No need to get your knickers in a twist. You asked how they did it and i answered. Sorry if i consfused you with the "I think" i'll re-iterate it for you. They traced over screen shots. Better ? Or are you going to swear at me again ?

Response to: I Love The Arti Named Zone-sama!!! Posted July 8th, 2008 in Game Development

I think that the person who does the Hentai Teen titan stuff mainly vector traces(drawing over screenshots). Thats why they look pro. If you look carefully all those drawings have been in actual show. They're just adapted. I'm not saying its not good its just that i agree that Adam Philips is better as its 100% him. Also i question a person's motive for drawing Hentai, surely they could put their talent into something more meaningful.

Response to: Tablet! Posted July 3rd, 2008 in Game Development

I would avoid Trust Tablets, i had an A4 sized one and it stopped working properly after 3 months and Trust won't help you with it. I'm planning on getting a Wacom Bamboo myself.

Response to: Bleach Engine 1.0 Posted May 18th, 2008 in Game Development

Not bad, you gonna keep using sprites or do your own drawings ? Ok and for some reason Ikkaku got stuck in some combos until i killed the enemy. Also i wouldn't call it 1.0 finished products are called 1.0 this is like 0.2 or something i dunno theres no strict guidelines to version numbers its mainly for the developers benefit. What language are you using AS 2.0 or 3.0. I did a game a while back in 2.0.

Response to: Dbz Flash Posted May 17th, 2008 in Game Development

Oh my the original Japanese Voices is it ? So is he just copying the original dbz into flash or is there any originality ? Good vector traces btw.

Response to: Anyone Considering As3 4 Gamedev? Posted April 23rd, 2008 in Game Development

I learned AS 2 and i was happy with it, now AS 3 is out i want to take advantage of it because its apparantly much more efficient. So i'm learning AS 3 and its a lot more complex but it gives you more control. I might make a game with it.

Its okay. Could be better. Sponsors might turn you down simply because its DBZ and there are legal issues involved.

They're right just using the DBZ label means that you won't be sponsered. Some modders once made a mod for Quake 3 using DBZ characters and they distributed for free and the DBZ owners still demanded that they stop it. It was a good game too "Bid For Power" was its name.

Response to: Need help with CS3 Basics 3. Posted March 16th, 2008 in Game Development

Ok first off the NG preloader sounds like it was made using AS 2.0 and that means it wont work in AS 3.0, next the preloader flashing might be fixed by clicking on your library's top item then using the down arrow to scroll through every item in there quickly. I know that sounds weird but i had that same problem with a game i made a while ago and that seemed to fix it. Sorry i can't be of more help but i'm still getting my head around AS 3.0 as well.

Response to: What is your Favorite Gundam? Posted March 5th, 2008 in General

GN-005 Virtue (Gundam 00) easily my fav as it has the most insane firepower i've ever seen from a Gundam. oMost of em just fire those small green lines but when this thing gets serious it covers the entire screen.
Virtue GN bazooka PIC

Seriously watch some fan subbed Gundam 00 eps seeing is believing.

Flash - Php/asp - Database Posted December 5th, 2007 in Programming

I am trying to workout some way to do this but theres a distinct lack of decent tutorials for AS 2.0 and AS 3.0 in this matter. Any links to a good tutorial on this would be appreciated. To read and write to a Database.

Response to: Stargate Atlantis Game Posted October 28th, 2007 in Game Development

Heres my first draft of the game design. None of which is gonna be final. Note: this has no preloader and u have to wait for ur browser to say done. Only the City and Gate Room buttons are working. Feedback is welcome especially on the gate which i know has problems with the buttons which are unrestricted.

OK CONSTRUCTIVE CRITACISM TIME :

-Guy moves about too slowly
-walk cycle need improving to be more smooth
-add weapon pick ups that have a certain lifetime eg 10 hits
-guys bottom half of body needs detail, hes walking on black blobby legs
-Change the guy's face as he gets hurt in the HUD

Thats all i can think of for now. Hope this was helpful.
