Cornandbeans...I'm sorry to say this but not only your excuse for your "lateness" was pathetic, also your so called suggestion is as well. I do respect you very much as an artist but this time you failed hard on your own.

There's a fine line between excuses and reasons. Sure, if I was an hour or more late, it might be pretty lame. But a matter of 15 minutes? I've accepted the fact that I'm not in the contest, but who wouldn't be frustrated?

What I meant by "silly shit" is that if you're gonna pull something like rule #10 and keep the thread laden with cock jokes, maybe you shouldn't act so strict. Not trying to be a party pooper or anything though, cause I like cock jokes.

If you spent so much time on that piece, and it's not in this contest for a shot at a meager 150, then go ahead and get it signed, make even more money off it.

you'd actually be surprised how little labels pay, dnb labels at that. I removed the songs not because I didn't want you to hear them, but because offering a direct download would minimize my chance of making any money at all.

Plus, now I have all the time in the world to work on them instead of rushing ;)

Just a suggestion though, if you want following MACs and their rules to come off as serious, I'd cut all the silly shit. It would be fine if the prize was just a sig like in the old days, but you are dealing with cash prizes now.

Whatever. I was going get trainwrecker signed, so I think I'll pursue that. I deleted both of my entries because I don't want to offer up a direct download to something I'm hoping to sell.

May the best win, even though I'm still a bit frustrated.

Iono that tune Girl in the Fire was pretty deep; wouldn't go as far as to call them a joke. I do admit a lot of their 'harder' songs are kinda cheesy, but if you checked out some of their liquid/electro hybrid stuff you'd be surprised.

I think it's a compliment.

I think if the music was better the ap would be more popular...

honestly, 99% of us are amateurs. There are some exceptions, but I think the audio portal is a better place to learn than to get popular.

Oh... and a massive collab isn't as awesome as it sounds.

ok first off I'd advise you to not follow everything your hear about dnb producing, because I've heard some pretty bland drum n bass out there, all made by following step after step...

I'd advise you to start making your own samples. You can create a very good kick even out of the default club kick in FL studio. Generally you want your samples to be rich frequency wise and pretty punchy. A good tip for snares is to boost around 200hz, that's the initial "pop" to the snare. The thing that is different in drum n bass is that the snare should hold enough power to substitute for the lack of a kick. You don't want your snare as deep as your kick, but if you notice in other genres such as house and techno you've got kicks and claps and snares all hitting at the same time.

eh I'd write more but i'm too damn lazy... just check out the tutorials in my sig. those should help out a bit

Cornandbeans' Sidechaining Tutorial

For FL Studio 7 users.
I've been noticing some sketchy mastering jobs here in the ap, and I think people could really benefit from a couple tips. For those who don't know what sidechaining is, it is the process in which an input of one audio channel controls the output of another, creating a ducking effect. Unfortunately, FL studio doesn't have a sidechaining vst, and the thrird party ones I've seen don't allow much control, so this shows you step by step how to recreate the effect with the fruity compressor and peak controller.

Enjoy! More tutorials are to come soon ;)

This song was too long to be put on newgrounds, so I went ahead and uploaded it on last.fm...

check it out, it's good drifting music ;) I recorded some glass bowls and shifted the pitch on them... tell me if you can pick them out. The song climaxes about halfway, so don't quit on it even though it is 8 minutes long :P
