What we could do, maybe is just have a year end contest and make it extend up till the first of next year since you've already lost a week in Nov.

To quote Rockhound from Armageddon, but forgive me for being the materialistic weasel of the group, but do you think that Ton would see it clear to consolidate the prize pools for November and December - I think that would make $180 Dollars of Store Credit for the pool.

Now you could make a sliding scale of $100 for the winner, $50 for second and $30 for third - I prefer a sliding scale. What do you say?

If people are ok with that, I think I should be able to judge in Jan, you'd have more time to solidify and edit and revise, wink wink. We could see if a longer contest is a good or bad idea.

Now we're looking at longer, better quality submissions, I would suggest that we have a criteria of not submitting the piece until at earliest December 1st, allowing us time to think about what we are writing, prepare drafts, and iron out any plot holes.

Perhaps the submission rule that means any submissions should be presented as news posts, then links submitted in the thread... though conversely, this could be prone to abuse, by authors that would seek to edit their submission past the deadline. Naturally, this call is down to the organisers, but there's my two pence on the issue ;)

I think the case in point here is that anyone willing to cross the line and have sex with a minor. Come on, it's not as if these people have tried to have sex with a student who is of legal age. The problem being that most male school students of the ages 14-16 are not exactly going to hold back.

Its almost like women offenders is "sexy"...whereas male offenders are "creepy, predators"

Some of these people are desperately in need of going outside. Debra Lafave wouldn't have had any trouble in seducing 18-25 year olds with the way she looked. Now that I know she's a sex offender, that's the only thing stopping me from going near her... that and the distance I live from her :P

WHAT THE FUCK IS GOOGLE WAVE SUPPOSED TO BE FOR!!??
Simple: it's an online collaboration tool that is supposed to remove the need for instant messages, forums, email, file servers, etc. It makes it possible to collaborate in a much easier way. It's really gauged for businesses that have multiple offices, but it's good for basically any group trying to collaborate on the Internet.

Yeah, it could be a place where Eagle hosts a wave for his stories, for example. A place where discussions about potential members happens in real time, that sort of thing.

What does everyone see as so useful here? I can't see anything I haven't already seen before elsewhere. What am I missing this time? :/
The idea is everything you need is here, all at once. Nothing else necessary. Again, not anything useful for someone playing around on Newgrounds, but for a business, it's a really big deal. No more need for email, fileservers, sharepoint servers, IM servers, etc.

It's great if you're collabing on a flash movie and need to get some work made by the voice actor, while two or three animators are trying to refine a drawing to make all three of theirs look something like on another.

The Yankees have bought practicaly every single baseball hero in history. Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, Marris, A Rod. The list goes on and on. Really it's just not fair.

Gehrig was a lifetime Yankee, as was Mickey Mantle. Ruth was bad business on the part of the Boston Red Sox, while Roger Maris was a part of the Kansas City Athletics "major league farm team" system for the Yankees.

I think A-Rod was a balanced trade, as Texas shed some payroll, which they needed to do, plus they received a damned good second baseman in Soriano. It's not that we buy up every talented player in sight - Cliff Lee and Chase Utley, for example, are great players that would take places on all star teams ahead of their Yankees counterparts.

Sure, they have more money than other teams and a salary cap would really fuck us over for a season or two. I think we're man enough for the challenge, so ask Selig nicely :P

Not really, since I don't really get educated any more. We've had a few things happen over the years - flour bombs being the best, when one of the leaving students decided that a firecracker in a 500g bag of flour was a good idea. A sizeable crater in the cricket pitch later and a lengthy school investigation came to nought, but it was still quite a shock when it happened.

Oh excuse me there. So yeah, Yankees won, just like I thought they would. So, props to them.

Thanks - you've been one of the most gracious opponents I've ever met - hard to see how someone like Dream-of-Duke would take it :P

Joe Girardi is going to get fitted with a #28 jersey for 2010 now ;)
Uhh, not so fast there mi amigo. There's a lot of ball to be played until next year about this time and 29 other teams that would have it otherwise. I know Yankee fans are a cocky and title-expectant bunch, but there's no guarantee that you can buy a second title in a row.

I wasn't saying that - I was merely saying that Girardi should get a #28 jersey to reflect the mission statement of a 28th World Title. After all, this is his second season as Yanks skipper and he had 27 for both of those seasons. We've accomplished that mission and now we will focus on #28 once Mr. Cashman deals with silly season.

I can't believe that we've only had to beat 10 franchises for these 27 titles. Gotta love the Giants / Dodgers combination :P

Giants '23 '36 '37 '51 '62 (5)
Pirates '27 (1)
Cardinals '28 '43 (2)
Cubs '32 '38 (2)
Reds '39 '61 (2)
Dodgers '41 '47 '49 '52 '53 '56 '77 '78 (8)
Phillies '50 '09 (2)
Braves '58 '96 '99 (3)
Padres '98 (1)
Mets '00 (1)

Finally, not one to rest on the laurels, we've got to work out what happens in silly season. I'd like to see Brian Cashman do the following:

1) Lose Posada - He's been a great asset to us over the years, but his catching has fallen to pieces, as we saw in Game 6. Drop to your knees and block the ball, or hit better. I'm quite impressed with what I saw with Cervelli, so get him and Molina to platoon next season.

2) Re-sign Matsui - there's your DH right there, so there would be no room at the inn for Posada. Sorry, but that's business.

3) Outfield? What's the stance with Brett Gardner? Let him have a crack at Centre all of next year, so where does Cabrera fit in? Does Damon stick around in Left? What about Nady returning from injury - suddenly, we've got 2 RFs, 2 CFs and potentially 2 LFs as well. Ideally, I've got Nady in Left, Swish in Right and Gardner in Centre. I'm unsure about Damon, now that he's got a Boston and New York Championship ring, it's a nice collection, I'll grant you. He's still got good hustle, so could be worth bringing back again.

4) Pitching. CC? Check. AJ? Check. Pettitte? I don't know. He's out of contract and we could bring him back, on the strength of his game 6 display, he's had a good year. Gaudin as #4 starter and Joba / Hughes / Aceves / Wang as #5? That's going to be a tough decision for Joe Girardi.

5) Utility player. Ramiro Pena is good, but is he really cut out to take playing time from the likes of A-Rod, Jeter and Cano? Harriston Jr. is a good fit, plus he's a utility outfielder, so we're covered there, should we need Swish to cover the occasional game at 1st. When A-Rod was out to start the season, Pena sucked, along with the rest of the Yanks. Could be the time to address this now.

There we go. I might pop back later with a summary of the season, but now, I'm off back to bed. For a good long while.

It was more that this announcer, supposedly an expert to inform us about the game, couldn't even name one of the Braves starters of the 90s; a pitching staff that may have been one of the best OF ALL TIME, certainly the most iconic of my generation.

Well, Rick Suttcliffe seems to have been a pretty good pitcher in his time and he was still playing when the 1992 World Series was taking place. In my experience, commentators may speculate a little, but then get the guys in the truck to get the information they want.

I think he was referring to Maddux / Smolz / Glavine, to be honest.

Additionally, I seem to recall someone predicting the Yankees to take it in 6, just saying. Though I hope I'm wrong, the Phillies are kind of growing on me - I don't know if it's the underdog effect, or if I just dislike the Yanks that much or what, but Pettite on short rest - who knows how it will go.

Well, laud thy prediction after it's come true, not before ;)

Also, Chase Utley. Reggie who?

He's had the Yanks' number this World Series. Hopefully, we can shut him down tomorrow and set a good foundation for #27
