Blams update #27 - 20th July 2010
A little bit of a delay for furniture assembly, with the fact that I've been spending far too much time in places like Ikea, in order to complete my bedroom project, which I started last December. Now all that's really left is to pay the credit card bill and get some curtains, a light shade and some new bed linen. Fuck, I'm nowhere near finished!
Movement:
No new entries to the top 100 (soon), the top 50 (sooner) or the top 150 (soonest), but like is implied, there will be some changes afoot in the next month or so.
Milestones:
66,000 Blams - DrJam
65,000 Blams - AfroUnderscoreStud
24,000 Blams - EagleRock
17,000 Blams - gamejunkie
Top 5 Gainers:
+ 554 - harryjarry
+ 477 - DrJam
+ 308 - courtday
+ 302 - Coop83
+ 293 - AfroUnderscoreStud
Special mentions to Gagsy and Sir-Nuts, who would have knocked both myself and Afro_Stud off the top 5 with their months of 337 and 481 respectively.

***Daily Muse***
Dropping a teenager off at school for mum (it's on my way to the office), I pulled over just past the school gate, as the traffic was flowing at a reasonable rate, rather than allowing her out before. A rather angry man in a 4x4 decided to give me an earful of horn, totally ruining my enjoyment of Man of the Year, by Alice Cooper. I gave him the finger, knowing that I'd pulled up for less than 10 seconds on double yellow "no parking" lines. I pulled away and met the traffic filter, less than 50 yards down the road, when he gets out to remonstrate with me. I wound down the window and duly turned tyhe stereo down
"You can't park there, it's double yellow, you [series of expletives deleted]." Calmly looking in my mirror, I pointed out that he was doing just the same that I had been doing, but he was actually parked. I could go nowhere, because of traffic, but there is now a 20-30 yard gap between our vehicles. As I watched his blood pressure rise, a gap appeared in the traffic and, not wanting to hold up the flow, I drove off.
I almost expected him to follow me to work and try to continue this. Twat.

Ah, but Carmilla is neutral in this - she's BBS, like me :P

I hope you don't mind me asking, but how old is your grandma? It might sound a little callous, but sometimes it's a way of lessening the blow if you know that they have lived a long and fulfilling life.

It's the first contest of this nature that Mindchamber has judged. Don't be too harsh on him. The contest should not be about the prizes, more about the fulfilment that you gain from the writing. Personally, i was disappointed that I did not place in the contest, but I have not read the other entries as yet.
If the grammar and shape of these scripts is not up to what I would call scratch, then that is a shame. The judge's decision is final and the only way to deal with it is to get someone capable of judging the writing aspect of it alongside Mindchamber, purely as a suggestion. He has different criteria that he judges on, don't hold it against him...

With that in mind, you might want to use the [Ctrl]+ H option to change each occurrence of [b] into <stron g>, for example.
For more examples of NBGGS coding, you can see them on any post reply screen. on the left.

One thing you might want to change is that the regs state that you've got to have the number on the door and the roof - you can't move it to the rear wing (quarter panel, for you purists :P)
I'd say cut down on the tanks on the side, leave space for the number and have everything by everyone where the number was on the back end.
Not a bad effort at all.

Ah, the joy of someone generalising these four bands as "Heavy Metal" The only one of them I'd call Heavy Metal is Maiden, while Metallica and Slayer are most definitely Thrash and Pantera, I'm reliably informed are "Groove Metal", whatever the hell that is.
Metal does need to go back to its roots - none of this stuff by Slipknot and other "Nu Metal" bands that sprung up at the same time.
It suits its purpose. My girlfriend approves and that's really all that matters.

Depends where I am - in the group of friends at the pub I drink at, I'm reasonably short, since I have friends around 6'4 - 6'7. My barely 6' looks quite small compared to these guys, because they also carry a lot of weight and my physique is quite athletic.
Compare that to the cricket team that I play with - a lot of them are still growing and so I'm taller than them. However, some of the veterans are taller than me and have better physiques as well, but let's not go down that route.
Being an additional 4-5 inches taller wouldn't make me more of a man. I'm still going to treat people the same. Sure, it might affect my cricket prowess, but other than that, I don't think it would change me.

As for what we congratulate, multiples of 1,000 for pretty much everything, with multiples of 100 for review numbers (but 1,000 for total reviews) and multiples of 10,000 for total points (Exp; Blams; Saves; Posts and Reviews)
Everything else, you can pick up by looking at what the established members congratulate.
Thanks for the update, Bahamut! Great stuff.

Hooray, I've Cooped Phantom.
Ah, a moving target in Rule. The target for this is that I pass him before I get to Bahamut. Tow, or maybe even three weeks work it'll take me to pass him, if I throw that additional 100 points on top of his current score.
Passing him before Bahamut should be a formality, but there is always a chance that he gets something more significant on any given day or week...

Thanks - I've been on the field for 5 possible hat tricks so far and I've only seen 2 of them accomplished. I'm glad that this time was my turn.
The worrying thing was that the opposition shook our hands after we came off the field and the halfway point. I've never had that before, they must have been well braced for defeat.

Congrats, either way. Whatever it was, it was a hat trick.
Yeah, think of how often you see hat tricks in Ice Hockey Rugby or Football; no hitters in Baseball; winning a set to love in Tennis. Those are about up there with a Cricketing trick.
The equivalent of a perfect game would be taking all 10 wickets. I've never seen that and dad came close to seeing it while he was playing. The guy bowling from the other end tried so hard not to take a wicket, but the batsman still managed to drag the ball onto the stumps from nowhere near them.
The best bowling figures I've seen personally were 8-81. I took a catch in that match, charging in at full pace and basically snagging it in my fingers a few inches from the deck, while still running.
I think it's a reference to Racoonmario's sig. :PAt 7/14/10 01:53 PM, reverend wrote: Bowser + Team Rocket = SephirothHow the hell is that logical?

Because of how the custard molecules are spiky, they bind together really well. if you had a swimming pool of it, you could quite easily run across the surface of it.
As for getting custard in the wound, we're not talking your every day yellow custard that goes well with a slice of Apple Pie, you know. We're talking industrial grade custard, that is thicker than normal and will repel the bullets.

Bad.
Taken from my New Year's News Post:
1) Running half a mile daily. I managed it yesterday morning, but have had breathing difficulties all day since.
Well, that lasted all of a week, but then again, I am still running, just not half a mile every day. I've combined cycling with that as well and with the summer holidays approaching, I might be riding the bike to work a lot more.
2) Be less sarcastic at work. It's not going to happen, I know, but you've got to show faith
At least I was telling the truth here.
3) Save money for a house. I may have just decorated my bedroom, but I want a new house of my own!
More money has been saved. I don't have anywhere near enough, but the bedroom furniture is a long term investment, so I have a substantial move forward there.
4) Get some of my projects finished. Both writing and audio works are outstanding for this year, so we'll see.
I've published a few written pieces and an audio, but my singing voice needs some work to get those audio pieces I referred to out there.
I should have made a resolution about my cricket - I took career best figures of 4 wickets for 9 runs yesterday, including a hat trick (3 wickets in 3 balls). Combine that with a best ever figure of 20 not out with the bat earlier this year and I've made some great progress.
Now if only the cricket club would take me seriously.
Thanks to Bahamut for pointing this out a few days ago, but I've now seen Maiden's video teaser for The Final Frontier and I have to say that I'm impressed.
The video is loaded with Sci-Fi cliches and even an Indiana Jones joke, but it's the sort of thing that makes me want the release to come around sooner!

Well, you would say custard armour sounds like pussy armour - had you developed it yourselves, it would have been the best thing since sliced bread. Fluid dynamics is a brilliant subject, that can save your life. The suspended particles in the liquid bind together, acting as a lightweight shield, as opposed to the kevlar, which can fragment and cause shrapnel wounds.
