Thanks for the update, Bahamut.

I'm still closing in on Recon Rebel - maybe 2 weeks away from him, now that I'll be getting a few more points on most Saturdays, all of a sudden!

I've got to knuckle down and gun for a 300 point week, because it's been so long since I managed one, but the best thing will come to those who wait.

Speaking of which, I'm 3,720 behind Ehwaz and that's going to take me a while to catch him. I'll still keep going until I do... then I'll carry on and build a lead.

Evening all.

Just thought that I'd stop by and mention that after we won our league yesterday and got promoted to Division 2 as Champions, we also got ourselves the win today for the other championship.

The guys have dug deep this season and as a result, we're sitting on top of the pile. Next season, things will change and I'd love to see the guys stay together and make it a hat trick next year.

I'm so proud of them, I'll have to get something of note for our grand end of season barbecue and piss up in 2 weeks time.

Right, off for the Grand Prix now.

Question for metalheads - is it poor taste to be playing "Coming Home" by Iron Maiden on 11/9?

"Coming home, far away
As I see the runway lights
In the misty dawn,
The night is fading fast!

Coming home, far away
As the vapour trails alight
Where I've been tonight,
You know I will not stay!"

Now a champion of division 3 on Saturdays, Coop tries for Sundays as well. Congratulations to:

Well good luck with that. I thought shooting for the title and grabbing it were always the best times I had with my sports team. And if you can grab two then that just makes it extra awesome.

I'm uploading a video or two from yesterday and I should be putting youtube links here for you all to see.

Though it can't be worse than the Bridge manual.

You know I did actually play cricket once in high school, but I suppose it was a very simplified version of it. All we did was bat the ball and count the number of runs.
Yeah, that's non-stop cricket.
It was fun, but pretty difficult. The instructor had to 'bowl' because nobody else could.

Yeah, that's normal.

What's the cool thing about being the best man anyway? I guess it's an honor, but everybody always seems so psyched about it.
The fact that you can be the most embarrassing person at the wedding (unless the bride's father decides to dance) and make the groom uncomfortable.

It's also the responsibility of being the "go-to" guy, as you keep him in one piece (we had 2 or 3 breakdowns and most of them could be solved by me waving two rings in front of his eyes) "We still have the rings, you're here, Nat's just over the fence, get in the damned church!"
Ah it sounds fun then, but I suppose you have to help arrange a lot too don't you?

I loved the responsibility. I won't ever have to do it again though, which is a plus.

Well said, when it comes to what happened, it'll also be hard to know how the team will recover as well. This is a tragic day in hockey in general.

Cast your mind back to Wiki and the 6th of February 1958 Manchester Utd FC were flying back from Belgrade, Yugoslavia and crashed on takeoff, claiming the lives of 22 people, many of whom were players.

The team went cap in hand to other organisations to get new players and donations received from the fans were staggering. They set up a team of reserve and youth players for the rest of the season and struggled through, though made one or two signings, to bolster the ranks and still made it to the FA Cup final that year (though they lost 2-0 to Bolton Wanderers)

Lokomotiv will survive this and they will return to the ice. A lot of people involved with the team will want to do it for the memories of those that lost their lives.

Yes, there have been tragedies. No-one can deny that, nor would anyone try to.

But on the bright side, a franchise rose from the ashes this summer - Atlanta no longer the Thrashers and now north of the border in Winnipeg. (How poetic it would have been to make a Phoenix from the ashes reference, had the Coyotes moved as originally mooted)

There have been some exciting moves made in trades, free agent signings and drafts, so we're getting ourselves ready for a new season. I'm not trying to take away from the loss that we all feel here, but I;m trying to stop the mood from being so god-damned sombre. We're less than a month away from the puck dropping on the careers of a whole host of rookies (Landeskog and Siemens in particular will be worth watching from my point of view), the new homes of dozens of players (Philly will look completely different) and hope for franchises that always begin by saying "this is our year" (I'm looking in the direction of both New Yorks and Toronto here, in particular)

Let's remember the stars that have now left in tragic circumstances in the way that we should. Let's drop the puck, play hockey, play hard and raise a beer to them after the game!

I'll represent England then. The 2003 World Champions return to the southern hemisphere, intent on taking the William Webb Ellis trophy back with them.

World Cup winning skipper Martin Johnson coaches the team, with fellows from the 2003 squad Lewis Moody, Simon Shaw and Johnny Wilkinson also travel. While Captain Moody remains an injury doubt.

I'm not going to build up the chances too much, but our first game will be the toughest of the group stage, with Argentina on Saturday morning. I'll be getting up early for that one, which will mean I need a lie in on some other day.

This weekend's fixtures are as follows:

Friday:

(A) New Zealand Vs Tonga, Aukland

Saturday:

(B) Argentina Vs England, Dunedin
(D) Fiji Vs Namibia, Rotorua
(A) France Vs Japan, Aukland
(B) Scotland Vs Romania, Invercargill

Sunday:

(C) Australia Vs Italy, Aukland
(C) Ireland Vs USA, New Plymouth
(D) South Africa Vs Wales, Wellington

I'd be a bit worried about the pitch conditions in Auckland after 240 minutes of rugby being played on it over 3 days. That might favour the Italians. All Blacks should walk over Tonga and two tantalising prospects of matches are Argentina - England and South Africa - Wales. I think that the Welsh won't stand much of a chance against the boks, but it will still be entertaining. We're going to have a tough contest against the Pumas, but I think we're capable of winning.

Also, we should still see New Zealand choke - they aren't capable of raising their game for the finals and haven't been since they won the cup in 1987

I'd send the full script to everyone, as context is important. If the actor can see what they are supposed to be reacting to and what is going on around them, they have more of a chance of saying it the way it was meant to be said:

"You shot him?"
"It just kind of went off."

"So you got food poisoning? I told you to throw that ham away."

Two lines that are the same, but the emotions of the situations would be vastly different.

I need a part time job, my timetable is like finish at 12PM everyday, so I think afternoon, going to night job is the way forward.

Whatever gets the money in.

Memo to all Newgrounds BBS users

Think very carefully, before making a parody thread along the lines of these "... in your food" threads. The ice is getting thin.

Justin Verlander deserves to pitch in the playoffs for the amazing season that he is having, enough said.

At this stage of the season, he's a no-doubter for the AL Cy Young Award. He'd have to melt down and CC go on an incredible tear for the roles to be reversed and I don't see that happening. I quite like Verlander, so kudos to him.

You gambled, it didn't work out. You've still got 3 years left on that deal, but there will be questions asked about AJ Burnett in the off season as well, in New York.

I suspect that the Sox and Yanks will be looking at the Starters market over the winter, with cheque books primed.

Who's going to be the bigger free agents this season? Chris Carpenter, Adam Wainwright, Edwin Jackson, CJ Wilson? Not that deep, to be honest. Buehrle as well, but he'll stay with Chicago, methinks...

Yep, you guys have been amazingly average. You hope for too much, though. Why not hope for a Pirates World Championship, while you're at it?

Wow, that's just kind of given me a weird flashback.

Still, I liked the Ware Bears - like Care Bears, but you could turn them inside out and make some kind of monstrous thing that was supposed to look like a really pissed off bear.

So yeah, my answer would be Care Bears. Grumpy bear was the best of them, no contest.

Format issues I can relate to and understand totally. Character limit isn't really an issue here - we're pretty relaxed on double, triple and even quadruple posting to present a work. Trust me, I'm a mod and you won't get banned, unless you're posting single paragraph updates, that is.

£55 per night is cheap. Where is that?

I'm not sure, never having been to Manchester, but according to my friends at Google, it was across the city centre. It all depends on the local transport and how much that would cost as to how much of a saving it really was...

Go right ahead but Manchester meet isn't for any stupid football debates.

Unless someone is making a flash about it.

Of course. Maybe I can get there by the end of the year.
On my pace over the weekend, I'll be lucky to hit 22,000 by the end of the year :P
You should get there just fine. I better make sure I keep my posting pace steady.

Should do - modding helps with that.

I never confirmed the booking but that is the most likely case.
Well, you knew what I meant.
I'll give it until four weeks prior to the meet to see if you or Odyssic can be at the same hotel anywhere.

I'll be consolidating, having invested heavily over the past few weeks and now needing to let the bank balance recover.

My apologies - 20 or 24 points for a win, none for a loss and bonus points awarded for wickets (1 point each for 3, 5, 7 and 9 wickets) and runs (1 point each for 125, 150, 175 and 200 runs scored) Don't get into draws, I'm not sure how that works, myself. I've been the club's official scorer for 1 season and I don't know the rules! YAY!
So 20 or 24 points depending on what?

Who bats first. It's a shitty device to encourage you to bat first - if you don't you can only get 20 points for chasing down the opposition's total.

And official scorer? Is that like the top scorer of your team?

No, I sit there with the score book and note every ball and detail of the game. I get paid for it (not just in alcohol!) and join in with the fun.

On a side note:

I went to see the film Melancholia today. I could've sworn Coop is in it :p

That's weird. I don't remember ever wearing an outfit so bland...

I've been toying with the idea of purchasing a signed first edition of Sir Terry Pratchett's latest Discworld Novel, Snuff.

It's got some of my favourite characters in it and as a result, owning one of these signed first editions would really give my collection a nice shot in the arm.

Anyone else got a signed book?
